Thoughts on the game: Week 7

Well hey, a win over a team we should've beat! It's been a while since we've seen one of those.

* The Byrdman is a shoe-in for DROY if he keeps on even half the pace he's on so far. Since last week it looks like he's improved his tackling abilities immensely as well!

* I maintain my position that it was a good idea to see Fitzy starting. He got the win, avoided the big mistakes and managed a couple of very pretty plays. His accuracy is still a problem and he has problems throwing on the move but we already knew that. I want to see Trent need to earn back that starting position if Fitzy has a strong showing in Buffalo against Houston.

* The run D looked a lot better today and the pass D looked quite a bit worse than they did the past few games, weird.

* I enjoyed all the big plays to Lee Evans, if TO could even get half the opportunities... He'd probably drop them all! :D

* While the O-Line didn't look incredibly bad for all those rookies today, there seem to never be any huge holes for our backs to run through.

* Holy hell we have a special teams unit!

* Is there anyone left who still thinks Freddie should be the #1 back? I was sickened when I saw him on some of the most important downs in the game and he kept running right into the D like they were a brick wall.

* Texans, Titans, Jaguars, Dolphins. The next 4 games are very winnable if the Bills can actually build on their wins instead of regressing like they seem to be doing all the time in recent years. Imagine, the Bills at 7-4! ... Yeah, I don't think they can pull it off either.

Agreed, Especially with the Fitz part

I give a lot of credit to Fitz, he manages the game well, makes decent throws and is much better than Edwards simply because he actually throws the football. Edwards is gun shot now and I believe he is done as a starter in the league…good! I know he didn’t feel a sense of urgency when we were 1-4, but I hope he feels one now because he just lost his job. As long as the Bills are winning, Fitz should stay as the Starting Q.B.

On T.O- he just doesn’t seem into the games, and I think its affecting his play. He seems like he is half A**ing it out there and its showing. At least he obtains respect from the defense which will draw attention away from Lee.

7-4?!

Don’t tease me.

That would mean the Bills would have to lose 5 straight in order to hit the “Jauron Line”.

Don’t fret. It can be done.

LMAO, new bills vernacular, awesome!

Well we tried the no offense huddle, why not give the no huddle offense a go?!!

You doubt their abilities to lose 5 in a row? Trust me, it can and probably will happen.

Just to spite me.

Fitz will need to play better

We couldn’t run the ball against the panthers, that is not a good thing. Either the 0-line needs to perform better in this area or Fitzy needs to connect more often. Judging by the weapons on offense our QB needs to perform better.

Excuses are a sign of weakness!!!!!!

TO will need to play better

His drops ended drives. They need him to catch more than every other ball thrown his way. Otherwise, let’s see Stevie Johnson!

Byrd is looking great…I agree. Nose for the ball, excited, relentless, tackling improving. You can’t take him off the field. He also seems quite fast. Great football speed.

Good to see Fitz starting, but it makes you wish Trent could just clean up up his head (maybe the latest concussion did it) and use his better athletic ability compared to Fitz’s and win us some ball games. For all of you who thought Trent had a weak arm, he has a rocket compared to 14 and I for one, think this might have been, Fitz starting that is, the best thing for Trent’s game and i hope to see him at home against the Texans

Run D is still suspect…it only looked good when all of our starting LBs (Poz, Mitch and Ellison) were in for however short a time they were, week 1 against the Pats

O line looks like crap in both phases, run and pass blocking, and contributed to alot of Fitz inaccuracy, and obviously our inability to run

I think we can win some games coming up, but we have to get healthier and we have to get Trent (the good trent) back in the saddle for the rest of the year. If we can win three of the next four, I think it would be awesome. We’re not too far off of what a lot of people on this site thought we’d be at this point. We should have won the Browns game in alot of preseason predicitons, but between this and the Jets game, we pretty much made up for it.

Also, how demon fast did McGee look on that kick return? Get his ass back on those kick returns at least a a couple times a game. He is still more than capable

Good Luck With Your Firings Mr. Wilson….Go Bills!

It was not good to see Fitz

In fact, the way he threw the ball, except for two passes to Lee Evans, was downright painful to watch. He sailed the ball on almost every throw. He was inaccurate and high consistently. In my opinion he is lucky that he didn’t get picked. Fitz made me realize why Trent Edwards is our starting quarterback. He was awful the entire game. Those two throws the Lee (the touchdown and the long ball) were pre-determined throws in the huddle. Great decision on his part to take advantage of single coverage on Lee, but overall he was just bad. Bad.
If not for Byrd, and the mistakes of Carolina, we would have lost this game.

And if it were not for two fumbles, we might have beaten NE and Cleveland.

True

I was simply trying to point out that the Bills did not win this game because of Fitzpatrick. Rather they won DESPITE of him. He was bad, painfully bad. A win does not hide the fact that he is a terrible quarterback

We all agree he’s a terrible QB, Willgarr. I just don’t think he’s any worse than Capn’ Checkdown.

And I’ll take his attempts to throw it deep over Trent throwing a 2 yard pass on 3rd and long any day.

Watching Fitz play, makes me miss Captain Checkdown. I don’t have the stats or the time to research this, but I’d be willing to bet that Trent (aka Capt. Checkdown) has attempted more passes of 20 yards or more, per game, than Fitz has in his 1.75 games played. Fitz checked down several times yesterday as well. He also ran for 1 yd gains on 3rd and long when no one was open downfield. Different action, same result: Moorman time.

I agree that it was sickening to watch that safety. The replays of Levitre getting run over were something out of a horror film. However, I disagree about your Fred Jackson assessment. Our offense was smooooth when he was the only back. I really think his rhythm is thrown off by this platoon situation and thus the whole offensive rhythm is off. It is hard to disentangle the the RB platoon from the injury to Brad Butler as the source of offensive disruption, but I would generally advocate a larger roll for Fred.

I thought it was a terrible idea to split the carries 50-50 in the Dolphins game. I thought it would have been much more effective to let Fred do what he does the first half and then bring in Marshawn as the battering ram in 3rd or 4th quarter to finish the victory. I still think this would be a good plan going forward and use the Saints as an example of how effective this can be (brought in Pierre Thomas late in Bills game, brought in Mike Bell late last night against Dolphins to spur comeback—thanks Saints!).

I also think that Marshawn has a far superior nose for the endzone than Fred and would consider using him as the redzone back, or maybe just inside the 10, but let Freddy run free between the 20s.

Talking about RBs always brings me to the Marshawn/Fred two back set that has got to have been our least successful formation all season. I really hope it gets taken out of the playbook.
