From the D&C article endorsing Fitz:
“Here’s a question: Are the Bills better than we think, or do they just suck the life out of most teams they play and drag them down to their level? Three weeks in a row and Cleveland, the Jets and Panthers could not have played any worse. That Cleveland game is such a haunting loss because the Bills could be 4-3 if they had won that one.”

This made me laugh a little – I remember playing teams that were bad but not awful back in HS, and sometimes they were harder to play because they didn’t do the things you expect an opponent to do, and maybe that threw off the timing and execution? Are we the equivalent of a knuckleball? Is this what the Bills do?

The Browns and Panthers have sucked all year regardless of who they played. The only team that might apply to is the Jets.

Fitz should start

Fitz only completed half his passes, but if TO had caught a couple of the ones he dropped his numbers start looking better. Trent completes more passes but they are generally shorter. Trent’s yards per completion is 10.82 for 2009 while Fitzpatrick’s is 11.38. He’s throwing down field more than Edwards. He’s also actually throwing to the Wide Receivers. Its no coincidence that Evans has had 2 solid weeks when Fitz has been in the game. The Bills with Edwards at the helm, move teh ball well at mid-field but stall in the red zone. With Fitz, the Bills are solid in the red zone but struggle to move the ball mid-field. I think the Red Zone play is more important. With a few weeks under his belt, Fitz should start moving the ball better and he has already proven he can get the team in the end zone once they get into the red zone. Unfortunately they had to count on the defense to get them to the red zone. I personally have NO confidence that Edwards would have scored a touch down with any of that field position. The Bills likely would have been up 9 to 2 when the Panthers tied it up with that touch down if Edwards was playing. I’d even go so far as to say that Lynch doesn’t score with Edwards in there because defenses have no respect for his arm and load the box on the goal line when Edwards is in.

But they do have respect for a journeyman backup? That makes no sense.
