Bills at Dolphins: Week 4 Open Game Thread
Buffalo Bills at Miami Dolphins, Oct 4, 2009 4:05 PM EDT

Buffalo Bills (1-2) at Miami Dolphins (0-3)
4:05 PM ET, Land Shark Stadium, Miami, FL (TV: CBS)
Dolphins on SB Nation: The Phinsider
Bills inactives: WR Steve Johnson, OT Demetrius Bell (groin), DE Chris Ellis (family emergency), DT John McCargo (calf), LB Paul Posluszny (arm), CB Leodis McKelvin (IR), FS Donte Whitner (thumb), SS Bryan Scott (ankle)
Well, it comes down to this: entering the final game of quarter one of the 2009 NFL regular season, the Buffalo Bills are 1-2, missing 7 of 22 opening day starters on offense and defense, and face a must-win situation this afternoon against the 0-3 Miami Dolphins. Miami's beat up themselves, and like the Bills, they've lost multiple games that they could have - and probably should have - won.
If you're in the market for desperate Week 4 football between two pretty good teams, look no further than Miami this afternoon.
This is your open game thread for today's matchup. I had motivational words in this space a week ago, but those backfired, and I can't find new ones today. Squish the Fish. GO BILLS - play like your season's on the line.

it wasn't a good throw.
but it goes to show that he doesn’t need to put it in the bread basket, just dont airmail it by 5 yards and TO has a shot to make a play on it.

the positive was that he threw the ball, i assume?
because he made a bad throw. yes TO caught it, but that doesn’t change the fact it was a bad throw. I don’t say nice things about the line if fred breaks 3 tackles in the backfield and picks up a first down…

because that seems to be a MAJOR MAJOR grip around here.

I mean a lot of folks think all he does is just check it down.
So he goes long (which he’s done a good number of times)
and then you find something to complain about.
Like I said…….he cant win at all ever with some of you.

actually i've been pretty positive about trent
or i was the first two weeks of the season. my main complaint is that he seems to alternate week to week between good and clueless.
but i don’t understand: we can’t say he threw a bad pass because he threw it in the first place?

i understand
I think we’re probably on the same side here, my original point was just that trent should keep throwing it because that pass proved he didn’t have to thread the needle to get it to TO down the field…it wasn’t meant as a complaint.
this play happened a long, long time ago.

this is why Cleveland starts Brady Quinn against us last year.
It’s why Chad Henne starts against us.
It’s proven that if you want your quarterback to just “manage the game” and win, you start them against the Tampa 2 Bills D. Why? Because all you have to do is throw the ball 5 yards and run the football. Good as gold. Works every time.

Time to shake things up. Bench Edwards… You play horribly, you get benched. Why shouldn’t Fitzpatrick get a chance? I don’t think he would do any better, but maybe it serves ast motivation for edwards.
If we lose, Jauron should be out… Let’s move on, we aren’t making the playoffs this year with a loss. So let the new regime begin.

Gotta love the four sacks by the defense, but once again AVP didn’t bring a game-plan, Trent is playing horrific (thanks in large to a non-existing pass-protection). We seriously need to put Fine our at Chambers’ side, because he’s as awful as you can be. This is a Dick Jauron-coached football team; coached to lose, and I’m more and more looking forward to him and the rest of the coaching staff getting the sack.

I’ve never been on the Fire Dick bandwagon….but if they don’t come out in the second half ready to play, it’s clear the team has given up 4 games into the season.
Especially since Wade will be fired in Dallas
and that is a way sexier place to be HC…can’t seem to win a playoff game to save their souls, but at least they get the opportunities
if garrett didn’t get that job after turning down a zillion and waiting for it, he'll go on a killing spree.

I’m sure the coaching staff will make the necessary adjustments at halftime. Look for Edwards to start going downfield regularly and the O-line to give up no more sacks.

The only adjustment they’ll make is Dapper Moron will change to cooler sunglasses.

I thought Poz’s injury was going to hurt this team the most….it’s obvious Brad Butler’s injury was the most devastating…
1) He’s Peyton Manning – the best QB in the league
2) He has pass-protection
3) Trent is just not very good at all at going down the field

Three and one half games into the season and all I feel is despair. TE looks terrible and the rest of the offense stinks. They have scored 3 points in the last 6 quarters. I can not come up with a scenario where this turns around. Who could possibily lead a turnaround in this group?

The saddest part
Is that Miami is easily beating Buffalo with very basic and conservative plays. They have a QB in his first game and Buffalo is not only listless, but the offense is actually damaging the team.

Trent’s pick 6 was killer. Defense is mostly playing well, but gave up a few long runs. Offense has been pathetic. They’re struggling to run and Trent can’t get anything going.

what WAS THAT?!?!?!?!?!?!
That was the worst defense I’ve ever seen in the redzone! Wow this team gave upppppp.
that was an illegal procedure on the offense
and then our defense getting in the way of itself for a TD
I always fail to understand how one can make the “they gave up” statement. Couldn’t it be that they’re just tired? That was a 7-minute drive.
I’m not defending their effort, or the coaching, or anything, really. Just curious how one can say “they gave up” and be able to prove it.

Well, despite the very earliest days of the Bills and the years of Bill Polian, this has been a sorry franchise for most of Ralph’s 50 years. Hard to not believe he’s a big part of the problem.

Yup, but also noticing single coverage on Evans on a fly route and chucking it up there

but he didn't "notice"
He stared down and threw it… regardless of single coverage
But would he have thrown it if there was safety help? Maybe he stared down Evans, but he did read single coverage

I have a feeling
That he noticed single coverage pre-snap
Then regardless if there was a safety or not, he was throwing deep to Evans.

Trent checked down against the 3 man rush. why can every team throw for 5-10 yards on 3rd and 6 when we bring 4 or 3, but we can’t? Is it that EVERYONE has a better secondary than we do? I don’t think that’s it.

OMG, they’re going insane at BBMB. Saw this post "What makes this so existentially depressing is the knowledge that the team really can’t get better till Ralph and his seemingly inescapable incompetence go to that Grosse Pointe in the sky — but that once Rlaph dies, the team probably won’t be Buffalo’s anymore. So we’re left savoring whatever crap they serve up as Bills’ football — because a 7-9 team, or even a 2-14 team, is better than no Buffalo Bills.
In other words, “wait till next year” — the eternal cry of the fan of a losing team — doesn’t really apply to Bills fans anymore. This franchise likely won’t be a contender until it plays its games somewhere other than WNY."
