Inactive Thoughts: Week 8
So last week the Bills were the walking wounded. Trent Edwards, Shawn Nelson, Xavier Omon, Jonathan Scott, Bryan Scott, and Donte Whitner were all ruled out before the game leaving little to my imagination. Kyle Williams was listed as doubtful wit ha shoulder injury but gutted it out and Chris Ellis was a healthy scratch. Almost immediately Williams suffered a knee injury that will keep him out this week. All in all a good showing of 6 of 7 last week inactive and I named the emergency QB correctly (which was about the only drama).
Few of the players listed have a shot at returning to the line up this week. Already ruled out are Edwards (concussion), Nelson (migraines), Jonathan Scott (ankle), Whitner (ankle), and Williams (knee). Also on the out list is FB Corey McIntyre (knee) who was injured in week 7. Listed as doubtful is Bryan Scott. Again there is little drama in my final list:
Trent Edwards
Corey McIntyre
Shawn Nelson
Bryan Scott
Jonathan Scott
Donte Whitner
Kyle Williams
James Hardy (PUP)
Emergency QB: Roscoe Parrish
NOTE: Every healthy Bills player will be active. This type of scenario is exactly why the inactive list exists in the first place. It allows teams to compete on equal-numbered footing. It means each team only gets 45 players no matter how injured or sick one of them is. It allows teams the opportunity to avoid season-ending injured reserve for a guy like Bryan Scott who has been out for a few weeks.

If Bryan Scott takes a go at it, Chris Ellis would be the most likely spectator followed closely by Todd Johnson.

Hope they give Ellis some time on D. We could use some help at pass rush and it’s time to see if he can give anything.

They did. He was in on a few plays I saw after Schobel went out.

I think the NFL needs to change up the roster rules some. A shorter term IR (like other sports have) would be a good idea. Something where you can put an injured player out for 4 or 6 weeks and his salary doesn’t count against the cap, he can’t practice and it opens up a roster spot. If the NFL is worried about what that would do to rosters, they could always make a rule where you have to call up a practice squader or something like that.
I think a slightly bigger roster would be a good thing too. Something like 55 and 48.
I signed up for Second Life about a year ago. Back then my life was so great that I literally wanted a second one. In my Second Life I was also a paper salesman and I was also named Dwight. Absolutely everything was the same. Except I could fly. - Dwight Schrute

Owners don’t want bigger rosters. Bigger rosters = less money for them.
