Buffalo Bills vs Houston Texans: Open Game Thread

Houston Texans at Buffalo Bills, Nov 1, 2009 1:00 PM EST

Buffalo Bills (3-4) vs Houston Texans (4-3)
Sunday November 1, 2009 at 1:00 PM (TV: CBS)
Ralph Wilson Stadium - Orchard Park, NY
Texans on SB Nation: Battle Red Blog

After a dismal 1-4 start to the 2009 regular season, the Buffalo Bills have won two consecutive road games, and if they can hold down the fort at home today against the surging Houston Texans - also winners of two straight - the Bills could surprisingly hit their Week 9 bye at .500.

The theory is sound, but the execution will be much more difficult.  Houston possesses the No. 10 offense in the entire NFL, including the No. 3-ranked passing attack, led by quarterback Matt Schaub.  Where Houston is strong, the Bills are strong, however, as Buffalo enters this game with the No. 10 pass defense in the league, including the hottest DB in the NFL, rookie free safety Jairus Byrd.  Where Houston is weak, the Bills are weak, as well - Houston is No. 30 in the NFL in rushing, while the Bills are No. 32 in the league in stopping the run.

Ryan Fitzpatrick will make his second consecutive start after leading the Bills to their last two wins.  Buffalo's offense, however - which picked up a paltry 167 yards in last week's 20-9 victory over Carolina - will need to be much more potent on home turf if the Bills are to upset these playoff contenders, particularly if the Bills fancy themselves in the same vein.

This is your open game thread.  Keep it clean.  Keep links to live streams out of the discussions.  GO BILLS!

Need to force turnovers to have a chance today, IMO. They better be really trying to get Slaton to fumble, because he’ll do it.

Limit the penalties, mistakes and blown assignments and the opportunity to pull it out is there. The offense absolutely has to put some points on the board.

Good luck after this week. Hope you are disappointed around 4PM today, though.

Well im cautiously optimistic that the team can get back to .500

plus I would just LOVE to have a real QB controversy if Fitzy can somehow pull out another win……..

Drama…………FTW.

Thanks!!

Regarding the game, I’m really optimistic that our O does something today. Yeah, I think there may be turnovers but hopefully not so many as to lose us the game and I think Lee and Marshawn have big days (relatively speaking!)

Go Bills!

Let's hope the Bills keep an eye on Mario Williams

I’d love to see a lot of 2 back sets with the RB on Williams’ side responisble for chipping him on the way out into pass patterns.

I’m sure you can understand why Bills fans don’t have a lot of sympathy with other teams when their guys get hurt. Buffalo is starting:

backup QB
third string RT
third (fourth?) string LB
third string SS
backup FS

As for not being sympathetic, our entire season last year was derailed by injuries, so trust me, you don’t have a monopoly on injuriy riddled season.

Does it really matter who hands the ball off 3 times in a row?

I’d put TO in to punt on 4th and 3—that’s change we could believe in.

by milwaukee on Nov 1, 2009 3:26 PM EST up reply actions

Can a team that can't score 14 in a game score 14 in less than 10 minutes?

Well, this game is over. I don’t know that the fake punt would have mattered. The Texans are driving the ball at will—and have all game—and aren’t shooting themselves in their collective foot.

Of course we could make things more challenging, Lisa, but then the stupider students would be in here complaining, furrowing their brows in a vain attempt to understand the situation--Seymour Skinner
