Not the guy I was expecting. Not altogether surprising, either.

Wouldnt say its a shock, but I guessed Jenkins would have been the odd man out. We have 7 WR’s.. they wont all go. So I guess theres a good chance TO wont see the field this weekend.

Not after the plays he's made on coverage.
Jenkins may be listed as a receiver, but he’s a ST player at this point, and not just a guy out there — he’s made a difference. Omon isn’t contributing. Neither is Parish, but maybe he’s considered more valuable as a reserve backup. Not for his salary, though, so i give up.

I agree. Jenkins had a great special teams season in 2007 and I thought he really struggled to make an impact last year. So far this year, he looks like his old self making plays, especially as a gunner on the punt team.

2 RBs and 7 WRs?
I can’t wait until we have a real GM. So what if Omon isn’t good enough to stick it in the long haul, what’s the point of having 7 wideouts when 2 are going to be inactive on game day? This just smacks of stupidity.
At least have the cajones to stand behind your decision to pull Roscoe. What are we keeping him for at this point? The whim of the next staff?

"That Cagey Dick Jaron" is unleashing our playbook's new secret weapon!
Empty backfield, shotgun, 6 wide receiver set.

If we have a six-receiver set, are we going with four linemen and a quarterback, or five linemen and a QB/WR?

Brian.......
………….. the "Cagey Dick Jaron and AVP have invented a new offensive formation. Two guards, and two tackles (IF we have that many healthy O-lineman on gameday). Each play, Trent lines up behind a different guard who snaps him the ball (just the keep the defense guessing). It will be better than unleashing the Wildcat on the NFL!
Yuck.
I was trying to interject a bit of sarcasm into yet another day of OBD amazing front office decisions.

5 Linemen 3 wr's on each side of the field.
then hang snaps the ball as far as he can down the field, and we try to tackle them after they pick up the ball.
THAT’S why you want the speed of the receivers on the field, see?

Could we sign an RB to the practice squad for insurance?
Seems like we’re kind of playing with fire with only 2 RB on the roster.

There are plenty of capable and out of work RBs if we need one. Edgerrin James, Larry Johnson, and Shaun Alexander come to mind. Not to mention Corey McIntyre has still stuck around and carried the ball in preseason.

He’s a former MVP. If we lost both Lynch and Jackson he’d be on the list of guys to bring in, wouldn’t he? Maybe not. We could do worse, that’s for sure. Don’t forget those UFL guys will be available after Thanksgiving.

God, I hope not
Shaun Alexander is beyond terrible. Thurman was a former MVP too, should we try to get him to play again?
We couldn’t do much worse than Alexander. He was washed up 3 years ago, and now he’s been out of the league for a year. I’d take about 100 FA RB’s before that guy.

Omon - wasted pick
Why did we even bother to get the guy? Couldn’t we have used a lineman? a CB?
At least we gave Wright a chance before he fumbled a bazillion times.
Figures with this organization …

There’s a lot of guys who were “wasted” picks. I certainly wouldn’t focus my venom at Omon.
I thought it was either going to be him, or that safety whose name I can’t recall right now. I even wondered to myself if it would have been a surprise name guy (Parrish, McCargo, TO, Hamdan, etc).
by krytime on Nov 11, 2009 7:07 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Omon was a 6th round pick. I’d hardly call it wasted. There’s about 5 guys who were taken in the 60 or so picks after him who have received any substantial playing time and one of them is our very own Demetrius Bell.
If there is one thing that this team has done better than the most of the league during the Jauron era, it’s the last few rounds of the draft.

Wasn’t he a fourth round pick? And as I recall there was a really promising DT still available that year who I was hoping they would draft, but then we got Omon instead. Or am I confusing Oman with another RB who got cut? There have been so many it’s hard to keep track.
In any event I would assume Corey McIntyre is the 3rd RB if needed.

Wright was a fourth rounder. Omon was the late rounder

Thanks. It’s Wright I was thinking of. That was the occasion when they should have taken the DT instead. As for Omon, it looks like he is ending up on the PS if he clears waivers.

You might be right in thinking it was Omon with that DT. Ryan McBean was probably the highest regarded DT left when Wright went off the board, but huge NT, Athyba Rubin was still sitting there in the 6th when Buffalo took Omon.

my only point was on a franchise that rebuilds primarily through the draft, wasting a pick is not a good thing … if we were the Cowboys or Patriots we’d simply pick up a quality player (or in the Pats case draft smarter).

The only reason anyone really cared about Xavier Omon was that his name truncated to the cool sounding X-mon. He really never offered anything more than, say, Bruce Hall but he did have a cooler name. And, should the Bills need a RB, Omon is unlikely to sign with anyone else. Perhaps he and the dreadful Shaud Williams will spend some quality X-Box time together.

shaud is in the UFL
I actually watched the Losman lead Locos and was shocked to see Shaud. Both looked the same as they did when they played for the bills. The difference was Losman had time to throw. I still don’t think losman is that good (i used to be a Losman believer) but in these “preseason” games he is obviously more talented than many in the UFL.

For Hardy to practice with the team, he needs to be activated from IR. They don’t need Hardy this year, but they might next year. He needs all the time in practice that the team can get him.

I like activating Hardy...
…and I don’t mind dumping Omon. I hope the Bills put Hardy and Owens on the field together. How many tall, physical CBs do most defenses have? Hardy was drafted specifically to help in the red zone and could force teams to use their tallest DB on him…even if that DB would be better employed covering Owens or Evans.

But Ron, they might actually score TD’s that way. Surely you don’t want them to do that. It would ruin our team identity.

It is a great move because
when the fans yell, “Don’t throw it to StoneHands!!!”, T.O. won’t know if they are talking about him or Hardy.

The move makes some sense to me:
Jenkins has made some really good plays on ST and is too valuable there to get rid of.
Steve Johnson needs some playing time and is too valuable to cut.
Roscoe is also too “valuable” to cut: I only hope they are looking to trade him after the season.
Hardy needs some playing time to develop for next year.
Omon: would not have gotten a sniff of the grass on sunday with Jackson and Lynch playing and healthy. He was dispensible.

2 RB's and 7 WR's big whoppie
We obviously didnt do well with 3 rbs and 6 Wrs. So how can u actually complain this is scary? if both RBs get hurt, we just run a 5 WR set. Not like much would change, still would have poor Offensive output.
You keep the best players on the roster regardless of position. Besides maybe roscoe could play qb/rb in the back field. haha

so is hardy going to get on the field?
I hope so. Phil Rivers talks endlessly about how much he loves throwing to Malcolm Floyd and Vincent Jackson because their height is a monstrous advantage. Does this mean hes ready to play because Hardy needs some balls thrown in his direction. I loved the glimpses we caught his rookie year in the red zone and people need to remember that receivers, especially big ones, dont develop overnight.
Vincent Jackson was a rookie in 2005. He didn’t break 1,000 yards until his fourth season and then only had 59 catches. Now in his fifth season he is on pace for 84 catches 1400 yards and 14 touchdowns. And all this time he was playing with a blue chip QB. People are so impatient its ridiculous. I get that its hard to be patient afer ten years of no playoffs but you cant take that out on Hardy. This is great that hes back. This guy is a big part of our future if he develops as he should. I bet a new coaching staff makes sure to keep him around. Vincent Jackson only had 3 catches for 59 yards his rookie year and then 27 catches in his sophmore campaign. Give Hardy time. I’m glad hes gotten a year to watch TO practice, hes a known hard worker. Our future QB – whether its Trent or not – is going to love having a 6’7 (i still say hes that tall even though hes supposed to 6’5) receiver to throw it up high for. Don’t be suprised if he ends up being our next big time number 1 receiver in two or three seasons.
To me, the sucker is the person who runs when there’s trouble, especially when this situation was so easily foreshadowed….

I feel a little bit bad for Xavier Omon, but he was never going to get any playing time anyways. If Fred Jackson can’t get more than a couple of carries, Omon’s never going to see the light of day.
