Who would you like as the next Head Coach of the Buffalo Bills?
I would like to Mike Shanahan, Jim Kelly, Jason Garrett, Bill Cowher/Tony Dungy (if they decides to coach again), John Gruden? Whats your thoughts? I really would like to see Mike, or John as our Head Coach, Jason Garrett as the Asst Coach/Offensive Coordinator, and Tony Dungy as the GM (look at draft picks he got from when he was with the Colts) Help me out guys and gals cause I'm ready for a fresh new start for our team I'm sick and tired of being last or almost last in our division.
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

I like Gruden, Shanahan, and Cowher. I think getting any of them would be helpful to our team but I also don’t feel that any one of them will end up here. Jason Garrett won’t leave unless it’s for a head coach job. Lastly I would attribute the drafting of the Colts more to Bill Polian than to Dungy. Polian proved with us he knows how to build a team.
My proudest moment as a bills fan was watching Don Beebe chase someone down in a blowout. Is that sad?

Jason Garrett has that job already in Dallas. Why would he come here unless it’s as head coach?
What has Tony Dungy ever done to show he is capable of selecting players?
Jim Kelly? He has said he never wants to coach. He has no experience and now you want him to be the head guy?
Gruden, Shanny, and Cowher are the only realistic ones on that list and the latter two are probably not even realistic.

Shanny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To me, the sucker is the person who runs when there’s trouble, especially when this situation was so easily foreshadowed….
Nice one.

Forget about the big names, folks. It’s just not happening – none of those men would ever, ever, ever, ever, ever work for Ralph Wilson. Ever. Seriously, ever.
Think coordinators or possibly even position coaches. Russ Grimm, Jason Garrett, Todd Bowles, Leslie Frazier. I think if I were pressed to answer now, I’d go with Garrett.

I can agree with that comment
After looking at a few of the comments being made on this blog. I can agree maybe bringing in someone with some youth and fresh ideas (plays) could help this team get on the right track. I would really like to see what Garrett could do with our offense and maybe the defense going to a 3-4 defense.
the best guy there is gruden the guy attitude is good and can believe in this team that if we need a new coach

why?
Our front office is a mess and I doubt the inner circle is going anywhere. If there is any situation that is ripe for Shanny to get as much influence as possible its with the inner circle. All he needs to Ralphs blessing to shut up Modrak and company. There is no strong voice here. Shanny likes to be in charge. Perfect.

It’s not about power. It’s just about working for Ralph. They won’t do it.

you really think Ralph
has developed that poor of a reputation around the league? He seems to be sticking by Jauron in the face of so much media and fan pressure and is not contributing to his hot seat and rewarded him a nice extension after even moderate improvment. Hes also willing to spend money. I don’t follow? I don’t think these coaches would rather work for the “dark hearted” Dan Snyder or Al Davis who will be our main competition for a new coach. If Jeff Fisher does get canned I guess Bud Adams has a great reputation but that just means Fischer’s on the market so its a wash cuz now hes available. I doubt Cleveland is a more attractive option and I doubt they dump Mangini this season. The Rams, Lions, Chiefs, and Bucs are not going to fire new coaches especially when they all have potential good ones. Carolina is more attractive than Buffalo so there is one I guess. The 49ers, Cardinals, Bears, Bengals, Packers, Vikings, Giants, Eagles, Chargers, Colts, Texans, Broncos, Ravens, Steelers, Bengals, Dolphins, Jets and Patriots will stick with their coaches. If Cowboys flop in the first round Wade Phillips will go but if he gets a playoff win – and they look pretty good – I bet he stays.
So really, the only competition that is a more attracitve location than Buffalo for these big name coaches are Dallas and Carolina. Neither is a sure thing. John Fox has gotten to the Super Bowl and the blame may fall on Delhomme and if hte Cowboys get a playoff win they won’t fire Phillips. So for now I’ll say Carolina is a better option thats the most realistic. Who the heck is going to want to go to Washington after whats happened to Zorn? Nobody wants to coach in Oakland. I’ll grant the Bears will be a supreme target if Lovie continues this collossal collapse with Cutler. I think we have a bigger chance than you think to attract a big name coach. Buffalo is a perfect situation. Young team, no real authority, die hard fan base, talent.

Yes. But that doesn’t mean that any of the names you mentioned HAVE to come back in 2010. There’s a big labor issue going on right now, too. They (the big-name coaches) might be smart to sit it out until CBAs and rookie pay scales are settled.
Seriously. Those coaches aren’t coming here.

that is a problem

This is a problem, you are right.
I am remaining positive that the NFL, for everyone in involved, is way too profitable to allow a work stoppage.
I also do think that at least two coaches we know are coming back. Shannahan makes no secret he is not done coaching and everyone seems to think Gruden clearly wants in.
Holmgren, Dungy, Bellick, Cowher are no sure thing at all.
To me, the sucker is the person who runs when there’s trouble, especially when this situation was so easily foreshadowed….
We are a year and a half from the CBA running out and there being a work stoppage.

right
which should mean many coaches are as confident as I am that a work stoppage is in everyones worst interest and will get worked out.

Just because there aren’t many attractive situations around the league doesn’t make the situation in Buffalo attractive. Why would a big name coach want to go the messes in Washington, Cleveland or Buffalo?

i dont think we are a mess
that deserves to be in the same sentence as Washington or Cleveland. Do you?

Yes. Yes, I do.

really?
yes we are close to being 2 1-6 but we are also close to be being 5-3. We have a pretty young and talented roster and our owner isn’t Dan Snyder. Cleveland lacks talent just about everywhere and Washington is an environment where the owner throws his QB and his coach under the bus wherever possible. I don’t think its that fair to say we are that bad as an organization.
To me, the sucker is the person who runs when there’s trouble, especially when this situation was so easily foreshadowed….
You said “in the same sentence as,” not “as bad as.” They’re all undesirable situations, but at least those other teams are financially viable and have the capability to turn it around quickly. I don’t see that in Buffalo, and unlike those other names, there’s a good chance the franchise relocates, particularly if the CBA sucks money away from smaller-market franchises.

didnt say we werent a mess
just not as bad of a mess as Washington and Cleveland.

We are just as bad as those teams
The results and lack of talent speaks for itself.

Isn't Garrett
head coach in waiting with the Cowboys? Why go to work for Ralph (unless it is to get away from Jerry)?

Seriously....
I like the gene pool. I think he’s worth a shot. But as Brian has said we need the GM first and then we go from there.
I'm with you cali...he turned stanford into a physical team..again he turned stanford into a physical team!

I think there are plenty of good candidates out there. I’d be happy with anybody that a real GM hired. Any coach who fits the scheme and philosophy that a new GM wants to build around works for me.
I signed up for Second Life about a year ago. Back then my life was so great that I literally wanted a second one. In my Second Life I was also a paper salesman and I was also named Dwight. Absolutely everything was the same. Except I could fly. - Dwight Schrute
I'd say we need someone who knows offense
Since we haven’t had a consistently productive offense since the mid 90’s

My choice is.......
Eric Mangini- LOL. The guy who mentored him struggled at Cleveland and then went on to become a pretty good coach in New England. Besides he’d make sure all our players knew who the long snapper was :)
Russ Grimm
He would be my choice, he can work with the OL and brings a toughness to the team and also has been with a 3-4 team for the most part.
Not a bad idea
He also has been a part of some championship teams. If we go 3-4 we really need some better LBs. Right now, Stroud and Williams are 2 of our best defenders.

I like Russ too......
My first choice is Shanahan.
My second is Gruden,
But neither fit’s Ralph’s MO for coach hirings.
Russ Grimm does fit the MO to be hired here, and he would be my first choice of unproven head coaches.

Harbaugh would be second.
Jim Harbaugh would be my second choice after Grimm of unproven NFL head coaches.
I just think Grimm would be better for this team, because he is someone who will understand how to make a difference in the Trenches, and that is where we need the most help.

GM First
I want to hire a GM first and have him hire the coach. I really like the job Jerry Reese has done with the Giants. They are in a rough patch now but he is good. I want a Reese clone.
