Better Know the Jacksonville Jaguars: Ask Big Cat Country
Hey Bills fans
I'm John, one of the writers at SBN's Jacksonville Jaguar blog Big Cat Country. The Bills make their seemingly annual journey down to Jacksonville this week. I know doing these helps me get over a bad loss and figured it would help you guys focus on the next week as well. I won't bring up the 96 Wild Card game, but the Bills impacted the Jack Del Rio era Jags in one significant way.
Del Rio's first home game was against the Bills in 2003. At the time the Jaguars followed most southern teams and wore white at home except for night games or during December. The Bills came into town with Drew Bledsoe and walloped the Jags 38-17. The Bills wore there dark blue jerseys and it was one of the hottest games I can ever remember going to. Since that game the Jags have always worn their teal colored jerseys at home except for one occasion. That was the 2006 season opener vs Dallas and Del Rio said it was because he thought Dallas' blue uni's "looked cool."
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

The only exposure to the Jags this year for me was that last game against the hated JEST, is the offense really that good for the Jaguars or was that more of a fluke? Before that game the only thing I knew was that MJD was ripping it up as usual.
Bills fan? In Colorado? It's more likely than you think.
Maurice Jones-Drew had a good game, except for the fumble at the goal line
The key to the offense though is QB David Garrard. He needs to play well or else teams just load 8-9 guys in the box to stop MJD

Our Offense is doing very well this year
I hope we can replicate our performance again this week.

Im curious how many different ways you see MJD gashing our defense.....and how many TD's you think he will get.
LOL.

Let's see, worst rush defense in the league + karma on his side for the kneel down at the one
I’ll go with 225 yards and 4 TDs ;)

maybe a screen, between the tackles, between the guards
maybe just a comeback pass. MJD does it all. I think he’ll get 2-3.

The Jags haven't cracked 50K a game in attendance yet this year, so I'm sure you can still get good seats

are you concerned about your franchises long term viablity in Jacksonville with Miami and TB in the same state?
we here in Buffalo are clearly concerned about what teams would/could move to LA – what are your thoughts?

Of coure we're worried
Last home game was easily a low point as a fan. We only had 40K show up against the Chiefs and 10K of that was Chiefs fans.
However, Weaver seems committed to making it work here in Jacksonville. He reportedly turned down a billion dollar offer for the team last year because he knew when the ink was dry we would be in LA.
I think the Jags are going to have a relationship with Orlando similar to what the Bills are doing with Toronto. Why the Jags have never tried to cultivate Orlando is beyond me. Outside of making Orlando show the away games, the Jags have no real presence there. That’ll chance soon though. I think as early as next year the Jags will play a preseason game in Orlando.

As for LA, I still think it'll be the Chargers

Our fanbase is young and our Team is rebuilding
I think eventually both will be secure.

It should be our biggest crowd this season
after such a win. I’m expecting 50k people. You can still get very good tickets.

Hows Garrard doing?
He’s typically benched on my fantasy team – but seems to put up decent numbers, although inconsistently…..
Never put salt in your eyes
Garrard has had his ups and downs
His pass protection has been suspect at times thanks to starting 2 rookies at tackle and a 2nd year player (Uche Newanari) at guard. However, the line did an excellent job against the blitz happy Jets last week and it showed with Garrard’s numbers.
He’s never going to be Peyton Manning or Tom Brady, but he’s certainly a good QB.

He's decent for a backup fantasy QB
But as our QB, He is very good for us. When our rookie tackles make a rookie mistake, usually he can run away from the pressure, but sometimes he just holds the ball too long. Garrard’s mobility is one of his biggest assets. I’m glad he’s our starting QB.

I’ve got a couple questions:
Are the draft rumors of the Jags selecting Tim Tebow completely ridiculous, or is there something there?
The Bills could be looking at starting a rookie at left tackle this year. Other teams have had success doing it, how has it worked out for you guys?
A new coach could bring a new scheme to Buffalo. Shifting to the 3-4 on the fly can’t be without it’s fair share of bumps along the way. How is that process going in Jacksonville? How much roster turnover have you guys had or will you have as a result? Any good players that will have to be shown the door because they don’t fit and have their been any surprises of depth players excelling in a new system?
I signed up for Second Life about a year ago. Back then my life was so great that I literally wanted a second one. In my Second Life I was also a paper salesman and I was also named Dwight. Absolutely everything was the same. Except I could fly. - Dwight Schrute
Let'see
Depends on how the ticket sales will go. I personally think that he is not fitting the jaguars system. I hope that an another team (Washington or Oakland) will pick it before the Jaguars can select. I’m sure the GM Gene Smith not wanna draft Tebow; if he doen’t have to. We need a passrusher or a young G/C more then him
Monroe is played a bit inconsistaltly. He switched off Mario Williams for example; but he was beaten several times by other DEs. But slowly he is starting to became better and better. The other rookie (right) tackle 2nd round pick Eben Britton is a really good pick so far. He played mostly quite solid.
The Jaguars switched to 3-4 because of the injury of the best passrusher Reggie Hawward on week 1. Although it made positive things(Terrance Knighton another rookie 3rd pick NT from Temple-played very well at nose tackkle; and John Henderson was pretty good too-but that’s was it. The others strugled in this system in my opinion; specially the LBs. But I’m gald the Jags switched back against the Chiefs on Week 9. The Jags don’t have 3-4 LBs. There LB ar excellent(Specially Justin Durant and Daryl Smith) but in the 4-3. I think the jags will stick in the 4-3 in the rest of the season.

Good Questions
Tim Tebow is viable in the idea that he’s a QB (which we need to start grooming one) and that he’s a fan favorite. It is however ridiculous to pick him in the 1st.
Always draft a LT, We drafting two Tackles last year, and they are progressing each week. Eugene Monroe is our rookie LT (8th in the 1st round). Its worth your while.
I don’t suggest a 3-4 unless you plan on completely drafting and signing players who fit the scheme. Blitzing is a must too since you only have 3 lineman. Its not good currently for the 3-4 in jacksonville. We do not have the personel, yet tried to do a 3-4 Zone Hybrid. Personally i like the 4-3 better than the 3-4. You’ll have to completely revamp for the 3-4 if you’re switching to it and it’ll set your team back another couple years. As for good players, I’m not too sure.

We Jaguars fans don't expected that move
I mean our team was in the same situation last year and Jack Del Rio is still the coach.
I guess Ralph Wilson’s patience come to the end. Now it is another former Jags coach in charge(the new HC was the DB coach of the Jaguars between 1998-2002)…
