Not much of an information post. I jsut wanted to see what all my fellow Rumblers want. And who knows, maybe if the proper changes come soon, we may all celebrate!

As said before, I have the upmost respect for Jauron. Its too bad he couldn't win on game day. I wish him the best of luck and I look forward to following up on him later.

With all that being said heres the poll...

I like Gruden

but realistically i think our best pratical chance is Marty Schottnhiemer. I dont like his son brian.

7 games and counting!!!

I like Shanahan best.

But Marty is the most realistic fit. I really thought he did a heck of Job with all the young players he had in San Diego, I think he could really turn it around here a might be someone who Ralph could trust that he knows, and Marty might be willing to coach here.

There's not a wide receiver who is fast enough, that J.P. Losman can't overthrow him on a fly pattern.

I agree.
I dont like his son brian.

Jets fans are finally figuring out what a mediocre to bad OC the guy is. Why give him a HC gig?

I voted Dungy

I don’t believe for a minute Cowher will coach in Buffalo. Dungy may be a long shot, but if he would come, who better to get the most out of our current defensive players? We would have to hope he could get a good OC to get the offense on track.

I agree about Cowher but voted for him anyways, that is my dream coaching get. It is not going to be Gruden, he isn’t going to coach next year, if he was he wouldn’t have signed the new deal with ESPN. Dungy is going to bring Vick if he comes here, whether for good or ill. Jim Haslett is my guess for who they will eventually pick.

He said today

he’s not coaching in 2010, but wants to coach again someday.

by The Buffalo Kid on Nov 17, 2009 10:01 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, I saw that too. After the MNF game, he seemed very excited to be staying in the both (although he seems pretty excited about everything). He also seemed very definite in that he was not going to coach next season.

I think a lot of veteran coaches will do the same thing if the whole cap issue isn’t resolved. If a coach is going to take a job like Cleveland, Oakland or Buffalo, they are going to want to turn the roster over very quickly, but that will be tough to do if guys aren’t FAs until their 7th season in the league.

If Dungy’s bringing Vick that would be enough for me to pass over him.

by neverbeentobuffalo on Nov 17, 2009 9:55 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Agreed.......I don't want to see Vick as our QB, but that is far from certain if Dungy would take the job

The Eagles would have to release Vick. Not sure that is going to happen. Plus, Dungy could change his tune on Vick if it was his head on the block.

this won't happen

billick would be calling plays as HC and charlie weis would not sign on to be an OC without play calling duties

I'm on board with Billick

coached up some pretty tough Bal defenses, and he seems like a blue collar guy that buffalo would embrace

by letsgobuffalo12 on Nov 18, 2009 2:13 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

The ones I would like (Cowher, Dungy) almost certainly wouldn’t take this assignment for personal reasons. I don’t like any of the others, with the possible exception of Holmgren. I would rather see the Bills hire an experienced, smart GM who really knows his NFL football and then let him find a younger, enthusiastic new HC.

by Macktruck on Nov 17, 2009 10:24 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Marty ball!

More than anything, Buffalo needs an identity. Marty Ball would be a perfect fit. 3-4 defense. A strong between-the-tackles running game led by the no-nonsense hogs upfront – supplemented by the play-action pass. Old school football. Cold weather football. Buffalo football!

by jri111 on Nov 18, 2009 1:44 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

I think Marty has gotten some bad breaks over the years. He a no-nonsense guy without a hint of prima donna in him. He could at least pick the franchise up and get it going in the right direction. All those other guys – Cowher, Shanahan, Billick they aren’t coming here. Never. Dungy and Gruden are NOT returning to coaching any time soon.

I could also see Harbaugh from Stanford (if he’s stupid enough to leave college) or a guy like Russ Grimm who’s been passed over a bit because of circumstance, so he’s likely to have a bit of a chip on his shoulder.

I voted for Shanahan because of the coaches on the list who I think have even a 5% chance of being willing to work in Buffalo and/or wouldn’t demand being the GM on top of the coach (which for me crosses Dungy, Cowher, Gruden, Holmgren off the list) Shanahan is the best option left.

When I take out the guys who I don’t think will coach next year, would demand absolute power, wouldn’t work with Ralph Wilson or would ask for 8 mil per season, it’s not a list I really like. I’d much rather hire a GM and let him go find an up and comer. Guys like Leslie Frazier, Jason Garrett, Todd Bowles or a college guy like everybody’s favorite Stanford coach.

I want to mix things up and find an FO that does the player acquisition and a head coach who brings lots of leadership and the Xs and Os to one side of the ball.

this sounds like what I would like, as well.

a smart, football guy in the FO and a young, tough, up-and-coming coach.

If we can’t have that, I’ll definitely take a proven winner like Shanny.

by nickfeely8 on Nov 18, 2009 11:35 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I voted for Johnson

I’d like Cower of course but that will never happen. More importantly of the people on this list there is one I really hope they don’t pick…..John Gruden. He was gifted his super bowl win when he inherited a great Tampabay defense. After that year they just got continually worse with him coaching.
I would Shanahan in a heart beat but again not likely to happen. Shottenhiemer could be the right choice.

I like Shanahan’s prospects as well, but he’s just a kid. He’s only been a play-caller for a little over a year. Needs more time – I don’t think he’s ready to lead an entire football team.

Zimmer's name is certainly on every pudits' lips

But, after first timers- Williams, Mularkey and our current state of affairs, I’d like to see someone with prior experience and some contacts to bring in a quality supporting cast of coaches. We need all the experience we can get. I’d go with Shanahan, Marty, Billick, maybe even Haslett

Voted for Holmgren

I would really love Cowher or Dungy, but don’t see that happening. Holmgren is known for grooming QBs, which we really need someone to do – whether it’s Trent or a draft pick. My second choice is Marty. I also want a proven commodity, not another possibility with potential.

by o.c.blazerfan on Nov 18, 2009 1:14 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

which QBs did Holmgren groom? Favre is a hall of fame QB who has always been good. Favre groomed the QB’s that sat behind him, not Holmgren.

by howedyhowe on Nov 18, 2009 8:17 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Although Favre was drafted by Atlanta and played a season as the 3rd string QB on Jerry Glanvilles squad, Holmgren was Farve’s first real coach. Under Holmgren’s tutelage, Favre steadily improved, cutting down the number of forced or risky throws. During those years Holmgren was on Favre like white on rice. Favre may have turned out to be a good QB anyway, but Holmgren was instrumental to Favre becoming a great one.

Also, Favre was/is too concerned about himself to tutor anyone that could take his job. They had to nudge him into retirement to give Aaron Rodgers his shot.

Three time pro-bowler Matt Hasselbeck is another QB that blossomed under Holmgren.

While Holmgren wouldn’t be my first choice as Bills HC, he has definitely has a proven track record when it comes to developing young QB’s.

Marty Schottenheimer

Marty ball just fits in Buffalo.

That, and

Cowher is not coming to Buffalo. Shanahan isn’t either. It’s just a pipe dream, wishful thinking, delusion, call it what you will.

Marty has ties to the Bills and his brand of football not only fits our town, it fits our current offensive personnel like a glove.

Other than our O-line personnel!

Maybe with a couple more decent blockers and Marty in charge Jackson and Lynch could be like Tomlinson and Turner were a few years ago. That would be awesome! I do like Marty’s style and demeanor.

Marty! Marty!

I told my brother I wanted Marty at the end of last season. He’s just a no nonsense coach who knows how to get the most out of his players and he’s a proven winner. The knock on him is that he can’t get his team to the big dance. That’s perfect because we’ve had some bad experiences there anyway. He gets my vote. In the end though, its probably Haslett.
