5 Positives in the Loss

There weren't many positives, but I'll try to identify 5:

1.  Nic Harris as LB.  He looks like a LB -- has he gained size?  He seemed to be all over the place (probably not a good sign for the DL).  Perhaps his future at LB is starting as of this game.  Certainly more meaningful than Palmer in the first few games.

2.  Fred Jackson as K/PR.   Really looks like a patient returner.  He moves so fluidly in the beginning part of his return to find the right hole.  I think it works better than Parrish's freak, juke, twist and mad scramble -- one man show.  I am thinking that it helps the special team unit (re: penalities) to know that he is running with the squad and that he will follow their path.

3.  Pozluzny.  Seemed like he was an island a lot of the time, left to chase and tackle on his own.  Speed showed, just need others with him.

4.  Florence.  Props again for DF.  Johnson really didn't do much, and Florance just adds size and close coverage even when they catch.  On the same note, McGee didn't look his usual self in tackling -- perhaps his injury still bothers him.

5.  Byrd.  Of course.  His interceptions are mistakes by the other side -- but that is what opportunities are all about.  Every time he INTs, I think of Donte cringing and saying he could have done that -- no, Donte, you wouldn't have been looking at the ball, you would have been trying to make a ESPN highlight pounding hit on the receiver (and forego the INT).

Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

To add to the Drayton Florence thoughts – he plays press coverage on nearly every down. Really, really physical defender. If he keeps playing the way he has, I don’t see how McKelvin re-claims his starting role in 2010.

Slide McKelvin to nickel and I think he would match up very well against most slot wr’s

Florence gives them a lot of

flexibility next year.

McKelvin is a superb athlete. He will probably start most games (provided he comes back from injury). However if you are going against big, physical receivers then the coaching staff can stick Florence on the big guy to wear him down a little bit. We’ll be playing Braylon Edwards and Randy Moss at least twice a year.

But Braylon Edwards stinks

He’s not a guy I’d be worrying about…Plus, he’s in the final year of his contract. Jets have to re-sign him first anyhow.

It’s not often that you actually want to see a division rival resign a big name player on their team, but I’d love for the Jets to give Edwards a shiny new contract.

I signed up for Second Life about a year ago. Back then my life was so great that I literally wanted a second one. In my Second Life I was also a paper salesman and I was also named Dwight. Absolutely everything was the same. Except I could fly. - Dwight Schrute

So true

That would be fun

i just have to disagree with you about Edwards stinking. He’s playing pretty well for the Jets, esp considering Dirty Mr. Sanchez is throwing the rock.

I was actually surprised Florence “slid” to the Bills. He was rather talented (sic: good?) with SD, right?

He was good in SD

Going to Jacksonville for that year killed some value I think

My proudest moment as a bills fan was watching Don Beebe chase someone down in a blowout. Is that sad?

Another positive........

another game/day closer to getting better (hopefully)

Does getting better mean dumping a certain coach?!?

I love your optimism in your post. Its hard to find that here after a loss. You only see the same people posting negative stuff, win or lose. This team definitely has more play makers than years past. IMO.

Love the post too

I don’t get to watch the games so it’s great to hear general observations about different players sans the “hate the coach” meme.

McGee covered Johnson a lot yesterday too, so include him in the Florence section. But you are right about Florence, he’s been playing so well. I still can’t believe anybody actually thought Reggie Corner was a better option in our secondary.

Other positives:

Rian Lindell made his FG and extra point!

We added our second rushing TD of the year!

TO still looks fast!

One criticism of this post:

Donte Whitner deserves better than the majority of this fanbase gives him. Last I checked, he ran an INT back for a TD and was a major reason runners were held in check during the first month of play.

You could have ran that INT back!

I know

But you wouldn’t be a tackling machine if you broke your forearm a few times either

I'm not a tackling machine with two good arms

but until he starts doing handstands on the field, his arm is no excuse for his poor pursuit skills.

What about the picture on Web Rumblings this morning where he is knocking Schaub? He got in on a blitz and flushed Schaub out of the pocket on at least one play yesterday. :-)
