To cheer, or not to cheer
I don't have the same enthusiasm for the Dolphins game this Sunday I've had for the previous 10 weeks. Why not? I feel like any remote shot for the playoffs evaporated in the loss last week. Even if we managed to win out, 9-7 with several key AFC losses won't get it done this year.
I'm not delusional--at no point after about week 4 this season did I think we could actually contend for the playoffs--but it's always fun to remain hopeful, and continue to root for AFC East teams to lose. Now, I just have a feeling of "blah" since we are basically in pre-season mode in terms of the importance of the games. It's a very similar feeling I had in '94 (about 11 years old), when the Bills were going to miss the playoffs for the first time for the 1st time since '87 (not to mention the Super Bowl, which we were spoiled with the previous four years!)...I was really torn on whether or not to cheer for the team.
The cynic will probably point out that we simply don't have the talent to win a championship, so why should we root for the playoffs in the first place? Well we haven't been to the tournament in 10 years now, so just making it would appease most everyone around here, and would certainly be regarded as a successful season.
So my question remains (and not a rhetorical one in the least): what are you rooting for this week/the rest of the year? As many people on BBR have pointed out, a #8-12 draft pick likely isn't gonna get it done for us--a nice player, sure, but not a franchise LT of QB we desperately need. Is it right to root for a loss, or is that just "creepy"? How about a well-played game that we just can't pull out in the end? I know it's crazy to root for---or at least be content with--a Bills loss, but then again how satisfying is a win at this point? Take the win in Denver last year, when we were purely playing spoiler---while it was nice, it was nothing compared to the Charger win, and also paled in comparison to the KC win (IMO), as we at least had a pulse in the playoff race at that point.
So what do you think?

Still rooting
for the Bills.
I understand tanking to get a top player, but I think it affects company culture to tank games. One thing these Bills are know for is 100% effort.
Impact players come in all rounds and it is so hard to predict who will be a game changer. The one thing you can control is effort and discipline and I do think that is enough. With discipline and effort, one or two impact finds can make a huge difference. Impact players can also come through free agency.
I just think these young players have to learn to win regardless of what it does for our playoff hopes, anyone else’s playoff standing, or draft standing.
I feel your pain though.

I think true Bills fans should always continue to root for the team. Draft position is nothing more than the silver lining to a bad season. Plus a top-five pick has plenty of risks with the reward especially with the out of control rookie salaries.
And unless the Bills bring in a solid GM, HC or football czar to overhaul this organization, our draft position doesn’t mean squat. The bills have been squandering talent for 10 years; its not for lack of talent in their draft picks but its having a sustained vision and the front-end talent to put all the pieces together.

We have an 0-6 record to defend against the division.
I am rooting for a least 3 more victories, all divisional. I am rooting for a little home field advantage in these remaining games. We have not done well at home. I am rooting for the health of all the players that remain in a bills uniform. Another Jarius Byrd interception.
Wow this feels like my christmas list.
Lets add a bills running game. Another T.O. sighting would be cool. Freddy Jackson starting ar RB. Due to the time of year and the fact we should all be thankful and giving. I am ordering a Johathan Stupar touchdown for “K”.

More importantly you need to scout the players you have now. If they tank games you learn nothing. I’m not hoping for a win or a loss at this point I am watching players now to see who still puts in the effort without playoff hopes. Those are the players I want to keep, the players that fight to the bitter end.
