Mike Martz interested in Bills' coaching position
Mike Martz wants the gig, a league source told ESPN.com.
Martz, the former St. Louis Rams head coach, is an intriguing candidate because of his association with Perry Fewell, Bills starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and hot rookie safety Jairus Byrd. The source said Martz is also high on Buffalo's other quarterback, Trent Edwards.

Ok so let me get this straight, he’s got connections to Fewell, which means that he’d stay around as DC and our D still wont get any better. Ryan Fitzpatrick, a QB that will never be more then a career backup. And he’s high on an increadibly disapointing underachiever in Trent Edwards.
Well thats all I need to know for me not to want him as our next head coach.

Yeah, change the HC, but risk not changing any personnel.

What really needs to change for the Bills is the team’s culture and attitude. We have the players to win, we just don’t have the attitude necessary to win.
Martz keeping the same personel would garantee that the team’s culture stays the same, which in turn garantees that nothing will change.
On to the next coach.

Sorry to attack you CBF, but if they need a change in attitude how can you be for Mark Trestman??? His attitude is Jauron x 2

I think that you are confusing demeanour with attitude here Matt. Yes I will entirely agree that Trestman’s demeanour is even coloder an emontionless then Jauron’s was, or at least it is when he’s speaking with the press. On the sidelines and in the lockerroom is a different story now. He might not run down the sidelines like Fewell did last week, but he does show a good amount of emotion.
As for his attitude. He’s sat out two of the CFL’s best wide receivers for an entire game each (Jamel Richardson and Kerry Watkins) because he thought they they were performing up his standards. Thats something that Jauron would have never had the stones to do. Trestman requires the best from his players, because only the best will do. And wouldn’t you know it, his team is playing in the Grey Cup game this sunday.

OK. Well if his “demeanor” doesn’t change a lot of Bills fans are going to be irritated then. I know he’s qualified but I don’t think he’s going to give the team a kick in the pants.

I am for Martz over any defensive-minded coach.
It is high time we had an offense in the top half of the league.

Simply hiering Martz because we want (and need) an offensive HC doesn’t cut it. We need the right offensive HC, the guy that will change this team’s attitude and core culture. Martz is not that man as he has failed to de exactly that every time he has been a HC.

No to Martz
He has good offensive passing schemes. I think trent could do well under Martz, many QB’s do above average work under martz. But the problem is you need a stud Oline for his passing game to work. He never runs the ball, and the QB gets hit so much, its like a cracker in a ceiling fan.
7 games and counting!!!

This could be bad
If I remember correctly, Ralph wanted Martz and Marv wanted Jauron. Marv got his way and the rest is history. I was pulling for Martz the first time around, but if he thinks Fitz and Edwards are franchise QBs ?? He may have crossed that fine line between genius to lunatic.
I think Polian must have put a curse on the Bills when he left. Anyone know where we can get a live Buffalo to sacrifice on the 50 yards line? Or, maybe we should use a Dolphin ??? Preferably, Nick Buoniconti

No thanks
Wouldn’t mind him as OC because he’s had some success there, but I don’t think he would lead the Bills to the super bowl, and thats the only thing that we should care about.

no, i don’t want martz. graham says that shanny interviewed the bills more than the other way around…hmm…
by chaucer on Nov 26, 2009 9:37 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
Do you expect any different. It’s the bills that want Shanny, and Shany has many options on the table. So Shanahan interviewing a team will not be exclusive to the Bills. It’s going to be Shany that interviews every team that offers him a job.

did marty, gruden and holmgren all said no to the bills as graham states in his article?
maybe we should reach out to urban meyer.
by chaucer on Nov 26, 2009 9:38 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
Holmgren says he only wants to be a GM. Gruden is staying at ESPN. Marty is staying retired for now. That could change if the Bills actually set up a meeting.

Please no… I don’t like the idea of Martz, because I don’t like his overall philosophy. Also, if he has a lot of connections here, that is something I don’t like because I would like the whole culture of the team to change. With Martz, I see little change…. but, that might mean MArtz will be our coach… Yuck!

Yes. Yes. Yes.
This is actually my favorite pick to be coach. Hes aggressive (yeah even reckless), innovative, and all around intelligent. Sure some people disagree with his philosophy. But his philosophy brought the rams to 2 super bowls and won one of them.

hmmm
am I wrong? Didnt Dick Vermeil win the Rams Super Bowl with Martz bringing them to the second one they lost?

I don't hate it
I don’t hate the idea. I think he is a decent candidate. Better than most out there besides the big names. I wanted him in instead of Jauron.

I like Martz
He has a proven record and you don’t win in this league unless you can pass the ball. Yes, passing is more important the running and no less “blue-collar”.
by Bill Frank on Nov 26, 2009 1:29 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
I agree with this.
I think passing and innovation in general is often looked down upon as “un-manly” or whatever even though it produces results. People are going to eventually get over the fact that a team doesnt have to be run-based to be effective. Look at all the best teams in the league this year. Lots of them are completely pass based and they are never decried as “no tough enough” or “not blue-collar”.

How would an orgainization like this look?
GM: DeCosta
HC: Mike Shanahan
OC: Mike Martz
DC: Slowik
SpT: April
Draft:
1st Round: Gerald McCoy
2nd Round: Jevan Snead
I would be pretty happy with that!

I would love for that to happen, but the only way that Shany comes to the Bills is if he’s GM and HC.

Why not keep Fewell? He’s doing an amazing job with the units he’s had to field each week. I think there are a ton of problems, but Perry Fewell isn’t one of them.

I’ll agree that Fewell has done an admireable job on D this year. He really has. Unfoprtunatly I think his job with the team will be up with the regime change at the end of the year.
