Thorwing a QB name out there
I'll make this quick.
A lot of ppl have said that we might be better off signing a veteran QB and develop a draft pick behind him, Which is an Idea that I'm all for. So I'm just gonna throw a name out there to see what ppl think. Donte Culpepper.
In the little time that he has played in Detroit he has shown that he hasn't lost all of his playing ability. And sure he has looked bad, but remember, he's playing for the Lions. I also don't expect him to stay in Detroit pass this year as I'm sure he doesn't enjoy being a backup.
I'd like to give him a shot. Maybe he could start for a year or two.
And please, If your going to vote, please comment on why you voted for what.
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

I voted no
I believe that as he’s aged, his decision making has really regressed. Not to mention that he has lost all of his mobility due to knee surgeries.
I feel there are much better people we could bring in for a mentor type individual. Perhaps a Garcia or a Pennington (if he can recover from his current injury)
No
I’m with kry and KW. He’s aged and is just not the player he once was. I’d much rather see Jeff Garcia or Pennington as well.

I voted No as well.
I am not sold on the Vicks, Cullpeppers, Vince Young, Flutie’s of the world. These QB’s bring an unconventional aspect to their game. Yes you do need to avoid a rush, scramble for first downs etc… My personal prototype is the ball control, game manager that utilizes the the skill level at each position over that of their own. Example: Pennington, Fitzpatrick, Romo etc… I know that with Pennington and Fitzpatrick thier strengths are more mental than physical. Twenty to Thirty rushes per game and twenty to thirty passes per game. Not sure what Culpepper would have left.
Excuses are a sign of weakness!!!!!!
Culpepper hasn't scrambled in about 5 years.
he brings a steady presence to the pocket- in that he can’t move at all.
Jonathan Stupar won the Heisman…while playing in the NFL!
Culpoopy? Nope. Never.

Donte - Moss = Loseman ...... I will pass
I think Polian must have put a curse on the Bills when he left. Anyone know where we can get a live Buffalo to sacrifice on the 50 yards line? Or, maybe we should use a Dolphin ??? Preferably, Nick Buoniconti
The problem with this is that he’s REALLY DAMN OLD AND WE’LL NEED TO DRAFT A NEW GUY IN LIKE 2 YEARS ANYWAY.
Bills fan? In Colorado? It's more likely than you think.
Well see thats the point though, if we draft a guy in the later round we could develop him for 2 years.
And it doesn’t need to be Culpepper, he’s just the guy that I liked.
Alternitives to Culpepper would be GREATLY appriciated.

I'd go Pennington
If he heals up where he can play again.
He won’t go deep alot, but real accurate and has really nice touch on the ball.
There's not a wide receiver who is fast enough, that J.P. Losman can't overthrow him on a fly pattern.

Yeah, if we’re going to get a Vet to train up a new kid I’d rather have ol’ Noodle Arm on board than Culpepper.

Pennington would be a great choice. I would LOVE to sign him. But early indications are that he is retirering. If he does choose to stick around, he would probably be my first choice.

Pennington
I shudder to think of Chad Pennington trying to throw through the wind in Buffalo in November and December.

Hi all - Phins fan here. CP10 (Pennington) has done an AWESOME job for us
between taking us to a play-off game last year for the first time since the ice age all the while mentoring Henne. I believe that Henne is 10 times better now than he would have been had he started last year. Also, everyone forgets that CP10 threw a pass early this year 53 yards in the air that was right on target and wonder of wonders, caught!
Personally I want to see him retire and be named Phins QB coach. but if he doesn’t retire and decides to leave Miami, Bills could do a LOT worse!
And if anyone sees Temson, tell him hi from Phinsider. We haven’t seen him for quite a while.
Just think how stupid the average Jest fan is, and then realize that half of them are even stupider! ( a parody of a George Carlin line)

CBF
my thoughts:
If we want a Culpepper type veteran – a cannon armed, wing it, gunslinger to get our offense moving – I’d rather us resign JP Losman. I think Losman has more upside, doesnt have a bum leg, and is a better player than Daunte Culpepper.
Now that said. I don’t want Losman back either. Haha

Hell, let’s go for it, maybe if the Locos win the UFL championship he’ll get his swagger back!

I’m surprised people are this anti-Culpepper. If Buffalo drafts a QB in the first round, then I’m OK with Culpepper being the vet QB they bring in.
A couple years ago, Culpepper averaged 7.2 yards per attempt, threw 5 TDs and 5 picks for the Oakland Raiders. It was easily the best a QB had played in Oakland since Rich Gannon although that list of names (Russel, Kerry Collins, Josh McNown, Aaron Brooks) is terribly unimpressive.
In Detroit his numbers havn’t been great, but they’re still decent considering that situation. He’ll only be 33 years old next year, so he’s not that old.
If Buffalo doesn’t draft a QB in the first round, then they’re probably looking at a vet QB to start at least one entire season, so if they go that route, it’s pretty much Pennington or bust for me. I wouldn’t want to see Culpepper start for an entire year and then come back for a second season to compete with Pike or something. That’s also exactly why I want to see this team draft a QB as early as possible.
I signed up for Second Life about a year ago. Back then my life was so great that I literally wanted a second one. In my Second Life I was also a paper salesman and I was also named Dwight. Absolutely everything was the same. Except I could fly. - Dwight Schrute
A couple years ago Trent Edwards looked like he could be the future of the Bills.
A couple years ago (plus one) JP Losman was the future of the Bills and had stats that blew Culpepper’s out of the water.

Well, a couple years ago was also the last time that Culpepper received substantial playing time. He also wasn’t a 23 year old who hadn’t proven anything like Edwards and Losman were.

To me Cu;pepper could still be a good game manager while we’re developping a rookie QB. And he is a great mentor to young QB’s, just ask Stafford and the Detroit coaching staff.

Donte was never that good as a pocket passer
He was the beneficiary of a great running game and Randy Moss. Donte was a threat to run, so teams had to put a “spy” on him taking someone out of pass rush or coverage. Now that he no longer is a threat to run, those advantages go away and his inaccuracy as a passer is amplified, long with his fumbleitis caused by his small hands. I would rather get JP back.

FITZ
I think Fitz is playing well for the Bills right now. Furthermore, I think he is playing better than Dante Culpepper would play
Bad Idea!
Let’s count the ways:
Aged
Damaged Goods
Immobile
Fumbles alot – close to being career leader (krieg)
Not intelligent
Pass!
Culpepper or a guy with a seperated shoulder?
Well, the Lions chose the guy with one arm.
Of course we could make things more challenging, Lisa, but then the stupider students would be in here complaining, furrowing their brows in a vain attempt to understand the situation--Seymour Skinner

The man WAS a very good player once. We have to stop being the garbage dump of the NFL. we go out and look at all the retreads of the league. We would be better to go with no quarter back than what we are doing now. If we go on the field mentoring I like Garcia. He can do it yet.
