Re: Kelly's article

Didn’t Kelly play in Miami and Houston and do just fine in Buffalo? He is from Pittsburgh so I guess he is used to the weather.

I don’t understand the argument that Southern QBs are better equipped to handle Buffalo weather. It certainly does not snow there. And it is an just too stereotypical to brand California QBs are not mentally tough. Rob Johnson was not a good QB but he was tough as nails, Aikman, Rodgers. BTW, Rodgers is an example of a California QB doing find in the frozen tundra.

He says Tebow has the mental toughness…. whatever that means.

people used to mention

Kelly as having a linebacker mentality. I think Tebow comes close to that but without Kelly’s mechanics and/or his arm. However I think, with some careful coaching and mentoring, Tebow could be successful in the NFL I also think he’s rugged enough to work behind a developing line. I know Kelly has said repeatedly he doesn’t want to coach, but, Tebow, with Kelly as a mentor, could produce the prototype QB we need.
I don’t think you’d find a QB with a better work ethic and character.

Kelly also mentioned that Moon played in a dome in Houston...

…while conveniently forgetting that he also played six years in Edmonton and blew apart the league while he was there because no NFL team wanted him. I think that if you can play six years in Edmonton and succeed, you know a thing or two about playing in bad weather.

Wait a minute:

Rob Johnson was not a good QB but he was tough as nails

I think Rob Johnson was a good QB who failed because he wasn’t tough as nails, along with other things. Look back at his career and he “should” have been the answer to the Kelly question. Flutie was much better than him, yes, and much preferred (esp. by me), but Johnson could play, and did actually perform pretty well for a time in Buffalo.

I like Rob Johnson

He had some tools, but the man had way to happy feet and his decision making was not the greatest. I believe that the team that lost the Nashville Forward Pass game was a superbowl caliber team with Johnson at the helm. He wasn’t a bad player but you can add him to the pool of talented QBs who did not make it as regular starters.

Rob Johnson eventually ended up with the Redskins and there was a chance that he could resurrect his career but he still had the same issues, touch issues, decision making, hold the ball, and always looking to go deep.
