Bills should spend on good G.M.
With all of this talk about who will be the Bills next head coach, I still think it is vital to get a good G.M., rather than a coach. In a small market like Buffalo, free agents will take the money from teams that are willing to spend more like Dallas, Washington, etc. And the Steelers and Colts are proof that you build a winning organization through the draft!
The Steelers have won with Mike Tomlin over Bill Cowher
The Colts are undefeated and I don't see Tony Dungy on the sidelines.
Josh McDaniel has done pretty well in his first season with Denver.
And whoever heard of Sean Payton before he coached the Saints.
I could list numerous other "fresh" coaches with winning organizations.
Then we can look at how Holmgren couldn't repeat the same success he had with the Rams, or Parcells with the Jets, or even Jimmy Johnson with the Dolphins.
So spare me the theatrics about how a "big name" coach will come into Buffalo and build a winner. You are only as good as the players that are drafted or signed by your front office.
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

I agree, though my preferred choice still strongly remains Mike Shanahan. However, if we don’t land him, I say we get Eric DeCosta or Dave Gettleman to run the show and let them find the HC and then go on from there. John Guy will be fired by the end of the season and so will Modrak likely, which means that we need a guy to make these decisions and I really think DeCosta could be a strong choice. I was after Brian for saying this, but the thought is really growing on me. The guy knows all there is about drafting and finding strong guys to build your team around and I still think he has much more to say in the decisionmaking in Baltimore than he gets credit for.
Another guy, who would be very interesting to look at is Tom Heckert in Philadelphia. He officially has the title of GM, but essentially is Andy Reid’s assistant, but he knows the value of building O-lines and D-lines from Reid and is only 42 and has played a central role in the development of Philly’s strong team since 2001.

I love DeCosta
During DeCosta’s tenure, the Ravens have drafted Pro Bowlers LB Terrell Suggs (’03) and FB Le’Ron McClain (’07) and a number of other key contributors, including OLB Jarret Johnson (’03), WR Mark Clayton (’05), C Jason Brown (’05), DT Haloti Ngata (’06), G Ben Grubbs (’07), T Jared Gaither (’07 Supplemental Draft) and QB Joe Flacco (’08). Much better than Modrak and the other clowns sitting in the front office for the Bills.
Dave Gettleman ........... sign him asap.
Let him fire Beavis and Butthead (Guy and Modrak) and bring in his own boys to scout and do research. This guy is no dummy. Look at his last 3 drafts.
Then look at ours.
Puke.
Sign him NOW!

I had to read that like 3 times. Ive had a little to much to drink and was trying to picture Holmgren on the Rams sideline and couldn’t do it.
My proudest moment as a bills fan was watching Don Beebe chase someone down in a blowout. Is that sad?

What do you guys think about Tim Ruskell?
He resigned as GM/President of the Seahawks yesterday. I personally am not a huge fan. He drafted well but seemed to be horrible with his FA pickups.
