Vick to the Bills in 2010 "a good fit": Tony Dungy on NBC
Looked and I don't think that anyone else has posted about this yet. Did anybody else just see Tony Dungy (Michael Vick's "reintegration into society" mentor) suggest that Vick could seriously end up in Buffalo next year? When pressed further, he confirmed that there were talks this past offseason and that Buffalo would be a good fit for 2010. Tell me that was just a bad dream... It makes me sick just thinking about it.

Already?
I thought we’d at least get to the offseason before this restarted.
We’re way more than a Mike Vick away from being a good team, so I’m not sure its a good idea. Although if he can still run around, his best trait as Bills QB might be that he is good at running for his life.

From the perspective of Vick/Dungy, Buffalo would be a great place for Vick to end up. That does not mean that the Buffalo Bills feel the same way on their end.
Since we have no clue who is going to be coaching this team next year, we cannot possibly have any idea of whether or not Mike Vick would be a good fit. I’ll get back to you on whether or not Vick is realistic is in a few months. It’s definitely going to be discussed ….. at length …. again ….. all offseason. But it’s too early to say anything other than that it’s too early to talk about it.
I signed up for Second Life about a year ago. Back then my life was so great that I literally wanted a second one. In my Second Life I was also a paper salesman and I was also named Dwight. Absolutely everything was the same. Except I could fly. - Dwight Schrute

Vick is still a member of the Eagles. The Bills can’t talk about him publicly or talk to him even if they wanted to.

5.2 million is too much to keep Vick behind McNabb and Kolb. If they release on of the other ones, I wouldn’t be opposed to either of them.

In the QB thread last week
I suggested that Tony Dungy and Vick are likely a package deal to go somewhere next year. I would take Vick to get Dungy, regardless of what happens we will have an interesting offseason.

oooohhhhhhhhhh
im listening teq! that would be amazing!
Althought his demenor is similar to Jaurons so this fan base would be killing him for not losing his temper when we were losing….
I like the idea and I bet Dungy could turn Vick around.
For the record, I abhorre what Vick did but after the Ft Hood shootings (ultimate scum) and stories of people kidnapping and locking girls in their basements or whatever for decades, I think we can say Vick has served his time and he deserves a second chance.
To me, the sucker is the person who runs when there’s trouble, especially when this situation was so easily foreshadowed….

Why, Dungy, Why?
A good fit for what though? The guy is nowhere near the player he used to be, and he wasn’t anything special to start with.
I really don’t see Vick getting too many offers this offseason after he’s shown nothing this season. Someone might ask him to come in to fight for the backup role, but who would give this guy even a puncher’s chance at earning a starting job?

i think
with this years QB class, which I think is thinner than most want to admit here, teams like us would give him a chance to come in and fight for a starters position with a guy like Trent Edwards or Jamarcus Russell or Marc Bulger or Delhomme.

I see him going to the Raiders. All that money they wasted on Russell is setting them back even further. They have nothing to lose by trying Vick out.

Couple thoughts with this
Vick isn’t a UFA. He’s still under contract this next off-season. So a trade with Philadelphia would obviously center around the asking price. I’m not down for anything higher than a 5th rounder. I took today to review some of the mocks I’ve done, and there’s way too many players available / trade options in rounds 1-4 to even consider trading one of those picks for Vick.
I’m not sure it’s a package deal regarding Dungy. Dungy is a Christian and family man, and through that perspective, I doubt he’s going anywhere to coach again. I think he’s turned the page on coaching to a degree, focusing more on his family and religious works.
Vick would/could be a viable quarterback, and in his perspective, Buffalo could be an ideal spot. But would a new GM and head coach really want Vick over Chad Pennington as they’re trying to established a new mindset/culture with the team? The only head coach that I could see wanting Vick is Jon Gruden, who has spent a great deal of time (he says) studying the spread and the spread option.
But again, it’s really hard to discount what Dungy says, because, like Marv Levy, he doesn’t talk just to talk.

As bad as it sounds
I honestly believe that Dungy quit his post in Indy because he felt a deep responsibility for his son’s death. These guys in the business have kids they never have an involvement with and trophy wives. Football is their life!
When Dungy decided to get back into football, even as a TV guy, I though it was too soon for someone who had left to dedicate his life to God. It almost seems, at least to me, that he wanted to save someone because he couldn’t save his son. It’s like chicks that only date project guys, the only difference is Dungy can’t break up with Vick now. His legacy is now at stake and all to often a person can have all the good they ever did wiped away by endorsing or doing something bad.
I wish I had the time to really do some research, and look at some timelines. But, with working night shifts, and an upcoming PCS I won’t be able to really look at it till Feb or March, about the time I get settled in at my next base.

I wouldn’t trade anything for Vick while he has a 5.2M option on his contract. I’m not paying that much for him.

theres no way
the Eagles pick up his 5.2 mil option. He’ll be a free agent and a likely cheap one at that.

Vick
I would welcome vick. i love dogs, but ray lewis and leonard little (allegedly) did way worse things and they were still allowed to play. vick is a great talent, and i’d rather have him under center than trent.

yeah...
also because he has a rocket launcher for a left arm and can probably run faster than marshawn.

I still run faster than Marshawn.

Ugh.
The worst part is that Dungy claims that Buffalo explored the possiblity of bringing in Vick this season. The guy has done nothing to prove that he belongs in the NFL. No, I’m not talking about making amends for the dog fighting and operation of an illegal gambling ring. I’m talking about things that matter on the field. According to the Sunday night crew he showed up about 15 pounds overweight; strike one. He hasn’t been any more effective as a running QB than Donovan McNabb; strike two. His accuracy still seems to be suspect; strike three.
I’d rather stick with Edwards. He’s at least in shape and an accurate passer—even though he sticks to passes that he could almost hand off. Oh, and Edwards isn’t a degenerate scumbag.
Of course we could make things more challenging, Lisa, but then the stupider students would be in here complaining, furrowing their brows in a vain attempt to understand the situation--Seymour Skinner

Vick sucks big time!
He’s no longer dynamic in any way, and that was the ONLY thing that made him successful in this league. Let’s not forget the fact that he already sucked at reading a defense and doing the things an actual QB would be expected to do on a regular basis. Have you seen some of the pointless Wildcat plays they’ve forced into the gameplan in these Eagles games? I would officially give up my title as a diehard Bills fan if they made that turd our QB. Even if you completely somehow disregard his atrocities committed against dogs, he’s no longer a useful football player.

illeagle, you need to have your brain scanned...
if you think Vick is still a dynamic talent. I suggest that you check the stats in terms of his averages in his snaps he’s had so far this year. That “rocket launcher left arm” is of little use if you can’t hit the broad side of the barn with it. He looks about as sprye as Drew Bledsoe running the ball these days. If we’re going to trade for an Eagles QB, I’ll take either one other than Mike Vick on their roster.

I believe we've seen a rocket launcher before in Buffalo
It’s now playing in the UFL.
Bills fan? In Colorado? It's more likely than you think.

A rocket launcher.
Who overthrew everyone.
There's not a wide receiver who is fast enough, that J.P. Losman can't overthrow him on a fly pattern.

I'm all for it...
if Dungy comes with him.
He’ll have Vick studying the game like he should, and since he is a little slower than he used to be, than Vick might prove to be a more effective passer.
Good Luck With Your Firings Mr. Wilson….Go Bills!

Hungry fans turn a blind eye
Its my opinion that Dungy thinks that since Bills fans are so starved for a playoff team they will turn a blind eye to Vick’s past digressions as they did with T.O. thus allowing Vick to sharpen his teeth before moving on to an NFL playoff caliber team. Thanks, but no thanks. Bills fans may be desperate for a real NFL team with a real NFL GM, and a real NFL coach, and an owner that doesn’t sell off his offensive line, but we won’t be the home to every NFL reject in existence.

I wouldn't be surprised.
If Jauron survives the season and I think he will.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Bills sign Vick, for an open competion with Trent, in training camp for starting QB.
Seems like a typical Bills move.
The thought of signing Vick gives me the same feeling the signing of TO did, the FO will think it is good from a marketing standpoint, Jauron can neuter any locker room personality, so Vick will fit in with the Jauron program.

Vick Is Not a Good Player
People tend to forget that before being sent to jail, Vick was probably the most over rated player in th eentire league. One trip to the playoffs, and he seemed to be regressing as a QB. And that was before the home fans began booing him.
If this is the calibre of player that gets us excited, we are in BIG trouble.
