Buffalo Bills wide receivers coach Tyke Tolbert has accepted the same position on Les Miles' coaching staff at LSU. Tolbert will finish the season with the Bills.

Here’s a lesson for the rest of the coaching staff, front office and mediocre players. if another job presents itself – take it – because you’ll probably be gone

Good Move Considering

We all know there will be alot of changes at season end. Some of them no exactly that they will not be around and some don’t. Good for Tyke, LSU not a bad program at all. Things to note, we are short a QB coach or OC depending on how you want to look at it. Secondly we are short a WR coach. Also, I believe the RB coach is supposed to have his hands in on the OC position with Van Pelt. Early indication that our next regime will be offense experienced.

Excuses are a sign of weakness!!!!!!

We’re not short a WR coach. He’s here ‘til the end of the year and there would have been a new one at season’s end anyways. Is James Lofton available?

I think that’s good for him, cause who knows if any of the coaches will remain after the cleaning of house begins.

I was born in Buffalo, and NO, it's not a suburb of New York City

Not a bad gig for him. That’s one hell of a good environment to coach in and LSU has a good history of producing WRs, even if most of them havn’t had big NFL success (Dwayne Bowe, Josh Reed, Devery Henderson, Michael Clayton, Early Doucet, Craig Davis and soon to be Brandon LaFell).

Position coaches regularly jump between college and the pros, so it’s hardly a step down and position coaches don’t typically stick around for long periods of time, so he’ll probably find himself back in the NFL at some point in the not too distant future. It’s got to be great for him to not have to worry about what will happen after this season and if anything, I’d think finding a new job would make a position coach less likely to check out mentally this last month of the season.

I signed up for Second Life about a year ago. Back then my life was so great that I literally wanted a second one. In my Second Life I was also a paper salesman and I was also named Dwight. Absolutely everything was the same. Except I could fly. - Dwight Schrute

Lets be honest here...

I have been on record, and still stand by the statement, that I think coaches in general take too much blame for players not living up to potential, (see; Parrish, Roscoe). With that said however, I have to say that the Bills WRs have been what I would call less then impressive. It seems like they seem to have a lot of trouble getting open. is that mostly the players fault? Yes, but some blame also needs to fall at the coaches feet. Am I crazy for thinking that this isn’t a very big loss at all?

Good for him

He had no garantees here, so he took job somewhere else. I would have done the exact same thing in his position.

rather than moving on…Is this the writing on the wall for this coach regime?

by danntheman on Dec 10, 2009 12:47 PM EST reply actions

The writting has been on the wall since DJ got fired. There is only a very minute chance that Fewell keeps the HC job, and even then, there are no garantees for any of the other coaches either, since I`m sure that Fewell would want to bring in his own staff. Some of his defensive guys might make the transition, but then entire offensive staff would probably be changed. All Tolbert did was accept the inevitable and find himself a backup plan. A hell of a plan at that.

Agreed, and with the exception of Bobby April and Bob Sanders I don’t want anybody back from our current coaching staff. A guy like DeMontie Cross might be able to stay as well, but who knows.

by BillsfanfromDenmark on Dec 10, 2009 1:03 PM EST up reply actions

I think that Sanders and April are the only two coaches that stand a chance of surviving the new regime. And even the Sanders is a long shot.

Wait a minute

We had a receivers coach?!?!? Is he skilled in coaching invisibility?

Rats From A Sinking Ship

I certainly don’t blame Tolbert for paddling away before he was sucked under. Whatever we may think of him as a position coach (succeed with Evans, fail with Hardy) he was smart enough not to wait for water to be lapping over the main deck before clambering aboard one of the life boats.

Of course we could make things more challenging, Lisa, but then the stupider students would be in here complaining, furrowing their brows in a vain attempt to understand the situation--Seymour Skinner

Who's next?

Hopefully our strength and conditioning coach sees the writing on the wall too.

LSU must love WR coaches

Kind of weird that they also hired a passing game coordinator/WR coach today, as well. How many do they need?

Reported that Tolbert didn’t take the Job with LSU and it was a bad report.

There's not a wide receiver who is fast enough, that J.P. Losman can't overthrow him on a fly pattern.

To further update, the Buffalo News this morning said he was never offered the job…. ouch.
