The Philadelphia Eagles are finally starting to see some life from their controversial off season signing. Michael Vick is starting to shed some of that prison rust off, and play a little closer to his former self. In the past two weeks he has 3 TD's (2 rushing, and 1 through the air) in very limited playing time. Over the next 3 weeks as the Eagles solidify a playoff spot, and possibly win the NFC East, Vick could start to see more and more playing time to save McNabb for a stint in the playoffs. I would love to see him play more so that 1.) he can continue to get back to his former self. and 2.) to see if his production is a result of him not having the ball much, thus less chances to turn it over.
Our Bills need a QB for the future from this upcoming draft, without a doubt. I for one would like to see the FO build the lines first and foremost, and play with a veteran QB for a year or two, then replace him with the future QB. The problem is that Vick isn't a FA, and the FA's that will be available...well, no thank you. We also know that none of the QB's on the current rosters can, or should be starting next year.
Why sign Vick? Well how else does the FO sell season tickets? The fan base needs something to get excited for, for them to continue to purchase tickets in a piss-poor economic time. Last year was the T.O. signing, which helped to sell the most season tickets since our glory days. Now what? We've tried the 1st round QB signing, we've tired the HC change, and we've tried the FO change. They all sparked some excitement and caused people to continue to purchase tickets, but we've seen it all before. We've also tried the big name FA QB, but the FO at the time screwed that up, by not putting a team around our 4000 yard passer.
So what would it cost to get Vick? Well right now I think he could be picked up for a 3rd, and maybe a late round pick too. The problem is if he continues to show some life in a limited roll that price would go up, and seeing how we don't have anymore Pro-Bowl LT's to barter with, a 1st rounder is too much IMO. So if we could swing him for a 3rd and 7th, or possibly a future draft pick, we could take the best OL/ DL with our #1, and then see what is available for a QB in rounds 2-4.
Now I like Vick, and I know he is a terrible passing QB. The fact is though he is a play maker, he can buy 2nd, or 3rd chances to find the open guy, or break off a great run. Besides gaining some fan excitement, I think it would help the players too. Maybe T.O. decides to stay another year, I wouldn't mind.
