Why Do People Seem To Think Wood won't be GTG Next Year?
I have seen multiple posts, say "if Eric Wood will be ready to go next year, or if he recovers."
He should be ready to go in training camp. He didn't tear up his ACL or MCL, which is much more devastating than broken bones.
Ligament damage is much worse. If anyone won't be ready to go next year it is Kawika Mitchell, he tore up his ligaments into the season like Hardy.
Butler has a chance to go at the beggining of the season because he tore up his knee early, but it's still no guarantee.
Granted Wood's injury looked nasty when watching it, but like Posluszny, he should be good to go.
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

Why Do People Seem To Think Wood won’t be GTG Next Year?
because he snapped his leg in half

yeah.....that one
and like billsoferie said, just being cautious
"The Bills have no playoff aspirations" – Dan Dierdorf
it was more than just broken bone. It was a compound fracture. The bone damaged muscle tissue and, for all we know, ligaments.
As billsoferie said – caution is the name of the game right now. Perry Fewell has said that he doesn’t believe the injury is career-threatening, but that doesn’t mean we can automatically assume he’ll be healthy next July, either.

I hope and pray
Eric Wood comes back, but he broke both his fibia and tibia. Many within the NFL circles are comparing it to the Theismann injury, which pretty much ended his career. We can only wait and see how he recovers from such a serious injury. Some are even going at lengths to say his career might be over, let alone coming back next season.
I am just glad that I didn’t see the injury! Theismann’s was gross enough.
Theisman's Injury.
The Bone came out of the Leg.
There's not a wide receiver who is fast enough, that J.P. Losman can't overthrow him on a fly pattern.

hence the term compound fracture for Wood
it’s the same thing.
medical treatments for such an injury is light years better now than in the 80’s. Wood has youth on his side as well which is something that Theismann did not.
def a career threatening injury
i wish he tore his acl and that was all this injury is not something that u can count on him recovering form in my mind he is dont until i see otherwise

Why do people think he will be ready?
We aren’t docs, but we saw a major leg injury where both major lower leg bones were snapped. We shouldn’t assume he’ll be back….maybe ever

what are you talking about?
If you really think his leg will ever be the same again then you havent seen the injury. He can come back if he heals quickly and learns to play in pain. My guess is that leg is going to bother him the rest of his career. Just broken bones? Go to youtube and search Eric Wood and watch the injury in slow motion. J2 said it best, we are cautious not becuase he broke his leg but because his leg snapped in half.
"you just have to know there's always going to be adversity. None of these games are going to be easy. Nothing will be given to us" - Paul Posluszny
I had almost the same injury
I broken both my tibula and fibula.Came throught the skin and everything. I was younger than Wood( I was 17), but it took me 7-8 months to start palying sports again and another 12 months to play pain-free. I did not play professionally, but it was high school varsity. It also took 2 surgeries. The one thing I will tell you is at his age, and with the advancements in technology, he will probably come back stronger. When the bones fuse back together at his age, they will be thicker. The biggest thing is I do not think we can count on any serious contribution from him next year. He is going to have no strength in his leg, plus his conditioning is going to be shot.

Ouch! Not good.
My ankle exploded my senior year and the coaches just taped it up for the last 3 weeks.
I was stupid and played and I ran around with a stick-foot. I’ve got arthritus in it already and I am a YOUNG (I wish) 41 year old.
I really cannot imagine that kind of damage you suffered Irish. Yuck!

I got into it a little lower in the post
But I will say that now 15 years later I really do not have a lot of problems with it.

Agree with all of the comments
A friend of mine is a doctor in PT and when he saw the slow-mo of the hit, his first words were something along the lines of: his career may be over. This is a serious injury. You can’t lump all broken bones, or torn ligaments into the same category. Poz was out an entire season with one broken forearm and only half this year. Someone can do extensively worse damage to their knee by tearing their ACL such as torn cartilage and other ligaments, but they will still be classified as an “ACL tear” the same as a player who only tears his ACL and does little damage to surrounding tissue.
B-B-B-Byrd Byrd Byrd, Byrd is the Wyrd!"
Part of the reason Poz was out for that full year was because the BIlls had a gagillion people on IR and needed his spot since he was gonna be out for two months. He could have come back after half a year but they needed his roster spot to get a healthy guy.

He was 36 when that happened and it was over 20 years ago. There have been many medical advancements in that time.

Exactly. An ACL tear or any serious injury would have ended his career anyways. He was old and in the middle of a crappy season and any injury that would have left him unable to start to following season would have finished his career.
I signed up for Second Life about a year ago. Back then my life was so great that I literally wanted a second one. In my Second Life I was also a paper salesman and I was also named Dwight. Absolutely everything was the same. Except I could fly. - Dwight Schrute
Maybe cuz he snapped his Tibia and Fibula???
Since your Tibia supports most of your weight as a human being it would only make sense to question “if” he will be ok. This is the same injury that ended Joe Thiesmans career. But IMO he will be good to go next year, he is young and will be able to recover from this. The only thing he may have to deal with is that leg being a tad shorter than his other leg depending upon how the bones fuse and if they fuse correctly. Since they said the surgery went well, hopefully he will be ok.
Leg will definitley be a little shorter
But will not effect him that much. If you check my post above, you will see I went throught probably a worst injury. For a while the doctors talked about aputation. This happened 16 years ago. I can say now I have no problems at all with the leg. But I think next year is a little too optimistic.

Well with the advancements in Medicine.
I really think he will be good to go next year.
At least the bones didn’t pop out his leg like Theisman.
As long as there is no Ligament or Disatrous muscle damage.
He is young, so he will have a better healing factor as opposed to Theisman.
The bones didn’t come out the leg.
They put the metal Rods in.
I definately wish Wood the best.
I don’t think this is a career ender.
But I do think it is a career shortner.
I know someone who had a compound leg fracture at 31, by age 40, they had terrible arthritis in that leg.
