Do you think Trent Edwards is finished in the NFL?
I know Trent is shell shocked after this season, but is he done?
Or does he still have the chanve to be a good NFL QB someday?
I tend to think the Latter.
So many people are down on him, he has shown flashes of getting it, but appears shell shocked to me.
He reminds me so much of a Rich Gannon with better skills and a worse team.
When I see people talk of Clausen or Bradford, I think, can they really do any better with this franchise with a revolving door OL, and perhaps some of the worst offensive coaching in the NFL?
Is Ryan Fitzpatrick better then Trent?
Ryan has only won when his defense gets him the Turnovers, at least Trent has won a few with his arm when he had the luxury of not being decapitated by the defense he was playing against. Actually fitz had one anomaly where he almost threw for 300 yards with TO getting close to 200 of them. But it appears opposing teams have adjusted.
I mean 86 yards by Fitz last game?
I'm not ready to give up on Trent just yet.
He has one year left on his contract, for cheap.
I would like to give him one more chance if we can get an NFL qualty OL that can stay on the field, which he has never had. Improve the OL and let him compete next offseason. JP, I had enough of him pretty quick, but I think in the right situation, there is still a chance for Trent to succeed, at very least on a Rich Gannon level,
Without a competant OL, I think he has no chance.
I just wanted to get Rumblers thoughts on this.
Are you willing to give Trent one more shot, if we can improve the OL and offensive coaching?
Or are you done with him, no matter what happens?
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

Trent Edwards
is not done. He has a future in the league and it could very well be with us. If not, I think he’ll land on his feet. I hope we keep him.
I agree completely. He needs to start over under a new management and coaching staff. But there will be a new management and coaching staff in Buffalo next year.
And hopefully a healthy and competetive OLine to go with it
That will help even more than a new HC and FO
As my mother once said, common sense isn't as common as it should be, I'm looking at you Ralph, get the Front Office in order, THEN worry about who your HC is....
im not against it
I’d be willing to give him another shot, he does have his good points and with an OL to protect him i feel he has the arm AND accuracy to make the big plays we need to put the mark in the W column.
I bought an Eric Moulds
jersey once and then he left town. Now, I wait for the long term contract to be signed.
Do what I’m doing – get a Thurman Thomas or Bruce Smith jersey. :-)

Trent's Game
For two years Trent has showed an inability to get the ball down the field, consistently. Settling for 3-7 yard checks. No offense can succeed in this manner. He didn’t have a running game and the line was in shambles but there was last year as well. His future is the same as it was this year, he needs to improve his game.
Fitz may be worse from a skill level, but he isn’t intimidated by the interception and rather expects his receivers to play the ball when it is in the air. He also needs to improve his game, but IMO there is a better up side here. He dissappointed many last week and if that continues, he too will be history. If he improves dramatically over the last three games, we could have a step forward going into next year. Just a step not an answer.
Excuses are a sign of weakness!!!!!!
Edwards
I think he has a chance of being a decent QB, but it’s not with us. Trent needs a new start somewhere else to clear his head and try to recover from the disaster he has endured the past couple years.
They are hard to play but not hard to beat.

I don't think.
He has to go elsewhere to be good.
I think he needs an OL that gives him more than 3 seconds.
It seems to me, he is making 3 seconds worth of reads in 1.5 seconds because of the OL.
Fix that, I think he is OK.
There's not a wide receiver who is fast enough, that J.P. Losman can't overthrow him on a fly pattern.

Trent has all the tools and talents. Put him behind the Vikings O-Line this year and he’d be doing great. He just needs a solid O-Line in front of him like most quarterbacks.

I like the guy and I think he showed enough good things for him to be considered a viable option for this staff or the next staff that will be in place. He has the tools and has proven that he can make all the throws. What I liked about his game early in his carreer is that he played with anticipation and he was able to hit the intermediate passes.
Right now he’s not playing that way, something happened, the concussion? playing without confidence? I don’t really know, but I’m not ready to close the door on him.
I think sitting on the bench right now is a good thing for him, he can evaluate his carreer so far where he can evaluate the positives and the negatives he has lived so far. Maybe things start to slow down for him and the next time he steps on the field, is in a good light.
He might not be the answer but he would be a solid back-up, he comes with a cheap salary and he has one year remaining in his contract so I don’t get some of the comments that say that he should be cut.

I think the Bills are going to have no choice. The team clearly turned on him. All reports coming from the locker room is that the team doesn’t trust him anymore and doesn’t like how he’s been talking and acting since before he was benched.

I think Trent could be the stopgap that everyone is talking about for next year. He at least knows the offense. And he will have two driving forces to make him better next year:
A better offensive line (I mean thats the #1 need right?)
The knowledge that this is his last shot.
But lets not forget he was drafted initially to be a quality backup for JP. Injury forced him in and he is good enough to get the job done. I, at least, liked his decision making and lack of turnovers compared to JP. Now that he is gone Trent’s decision making comes under fire. I don’t think that is very fair.
He has the physical tools to be a good QB and he is very smart. I think confidence and an understanding of “risk” taking needs to be instilled.
But the MAIN problem with bringing him back in to play will be everyone else on the team. Like MRW said, if the team doesn’t follow him, its over. Look at the Raiders, no one trusted JaMR and when Gradkoski comes in a spark lifts their team to victory.
He at least knows the offense.
But there will be a different coach and offense probably.
