Cato June was still available?
Bears Sign June Why did we not sign this guy? Instead we put Scott out of position? We looked at this guy pre- season, he has got to be better than Scott. Don't get me wrong, Scott has been ok but these are things that I question.

Just wow.

I wouldn’t be so sure about that. And given how decent Chris Draft has been, I don’t think Buffalo has mishandled the LB situation since they finally decided to stop playing Buggs and Palmer. I think we can bash them for not making a move sooner, but Scott/Poz/Draft seems pretty solid considering the injuries.

Draft has been unreal. What a find.

I think “unreal” is a little lofty. He’s been dependable.

"Dependable" is a great word to describ Draft for us this year.
He has in no way been outstanding. He doesn’t have any big plays (otherwise from that stop at forth down). But he has been there when we needed him. Further more, he hasn’t had many bad plays (if any).
To me Draft is making a serious case for himself to be re-signed as a long term backup in our LB corps. He’s not a starter, but he’s a very dependable vet that can make the good plays for you when he’s called upon.
I wouldn’t mind us resigning him to a 3 year contract, making him our primary backup at OLB for the next few seasons.

6 games, 1 sack, 1 pass defended, 1 interception (last week).

Nevermind them, those are starting numbers, and Big plays as well. I stand (pleasantly) corrected.
That being said, I think that Draft is currently overachieving and that we are not likely to see these numbers from him again next year. Still doesn’t mean that anything I said about him being the team’s top backup at either OLB position isn’t true. We should sign this guy long term.

I’m with you on him overachieving. His tackle numbers aren’t actually great, but OLBs don’t really need to rack up tackles to be doing a their job correctly (see Ellison, Keith). I’m not sure about signing him long term because he’s already been in the league 11 years, but signing him for a year or two for his experience is not a bad idea at all.

I was writing quickly, and so I didn’t express clearly what I meant.
What I mean is that with all the personnel problems the Bills have had, especially at LB, it’s unreal that they actually found someone who could step in and play right away, and make plays. If I remember correctly, he came up awfully big at the end of the first Jets game. Also, his interception and 4th down stop were all extremely timely.
Clearly the guy can play. Is he a superstar? No, but the defense is definitely better with him than it was without him.

That’s fair enough.

agree
but this team is in serious need of depth and it would be nice to have a LB playing LB and Scott where he belongs at SS

That’s a great point. You’re right that Scott shouldn’t be playing LB if it’s forcing George Wilson into a starting role at safety. Didn’t think about that.

They did bring June in during the off-season. Maybe he just didn’t fit with what the Bills were looking for. Before you say “they were looking for a warm body”, I know, I know…
