Who would you keep? Poz or Whitner?
If the new Bills coaching staff decided to retain ONLY of of these players (as a starter), who do you believe should stay in Buffalo?

Note: Whitner has played one year longer than Poz, he is still younger however.
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

BTW I chose Whitner, because he is more versitile.
Linebackers are easier to find, and Poz would be more effictive on the outside in my opinion. Whitner can play either safety position, cornerback, ref, linebacker…
And wait a second could it be? And now i know for sure, he could be another guy added to my wolfpack.
i really dont care for versatility...
…when said player is ineffective everywhere he plays.

Whitner is versatile
and moves around because he’s not very good at any one position.
Jack of all trades, master of none…

"As the governor of Louisiana once said, the only way Chris Kelsay can lose his job is if he got caught in bed with a dead girl or a live boy."
That may be because he hasn’t had the opportunity to settle into any one position for long enough to learn it well. I ding the coaching staff on that one because they have been all too happy to use him like a swiss army knife rather than actually develop him at a single position (IMO his best fit would be at SS).

Well he can't cover anyone, doesn't have a nose for the ball and isn't that great of a tackler.
Could his natural position be OL? We could use a couple of them.

That's just an excuse
If he was really good, he’d be making plays regardless of where he is on the field.
It’s not like he’s shown flashes of being able to cover anyone, make consistent plays or tackle. He’s just a mediocre football player that isn’t great at anything. He’s played more than enough at both safety positions to not use getting moved as an excuse. It’s not like he’s jumping between safety and linebacker.

What do you mean by “flashes of consistency”? He’s had his good games and bad and probably hasn’t lived up to his draft position but it’s not his fault he got drafted too early, shoved into the lineup, and had to cover for injured teammates.
You’re right that shifting between safety positions is not like jumping between S and LB, but he does play nickel CB as well. He probably does the nickel thing better than Corner, for whatever that’s worth. I feel like he’s a starting SS in this league. Apparently, you don’t think he has a place. That’s ok. We can disagree.

Is this a Choice?
Poz has been playing lights-out during the second half of this season. Whitner almost never makes a big play, and his pass interference penalty last Sunday when he failed to turn his head around and check out where the ball was basically cost the Bills the game (everything started going downhill after that).
In my book Poz is a definite keeper and Whitner needs to be traded or cut. George Wilson and Bryan Scott are both MUCH better Safeties at this point.
basically cost the Bills the game
No, the Bills lost the Bills the game. Its a team sport. A good team would have picked themselves up, dusted themselves off, and moved on. They didn’t. Theres no point in blaming one player for a team’s failures.
by CanadianBillsFan on Dec 21, 2009 8:49 PM EST up reply actions
You’re right, but it seems to me that there was a sizable shift in momentum after that interference call. That’s what I was referring to. And the saddest thing of all was that Whitner was in perfect postiion to intercept if he had only turned his head around enough to see what was happening (which, I have always been told, is what a DB is supposed to do).
poz has played 1 good game all year.
“lights out the second half” might be a little strong.
Jonathan Stupar won the Heisman…while playing in the NFL!
3 INT`s in 3 different games. 3 different forced fumbles, also in 3 different games. And averaging 9 + tackles per game. No Puz has had many good games for us (aka every one that he`s actually played in). You could argue that he`s only had one or two amazing games, but he has had MANY good games.
by CanadianBillsFan on Dec 21, 2009 10:33 PM EST up reply actions
You're ignoring the rest of his play during those games.
Making a pick is nice, but not if you get you’re butt kicked the rest of the game and miss a bunch of tackles, which is what he’s been doing every week besides the most recent one.
Jonathan Stupar won the Heisman…while playing in the NFL!
We`ve obviously been watching different games, because in the ones that I’ve seen Puz has had more hits then misses.
by CanadianBillsFan on Dec 22, 2009 12:54 AM EST up reply actions
I really haven’t seen him miss any more tackles than anyone else on the team.
Bills fan? In Colorado? It's more likely than you think.
If I can only keep 1 then it`s not contest: Puz
But personally I`d keep both.
Although I’m starting to think that Whitner has reached his maximum potential as a Safety in the NFL, and could be replaceable. Although I would like to keep him, but only if he’s willing to keep the same salery (or preferably) take a pay cut. Neither are likely to happen.
Puz on the other hand has shown a HUGE improvement this year and is really comming to show that he has great ability as our top LB. His numbers are very good this year and he is showing to be a leader on our D. And thats all while playing out of position. If we manage to draft and starting MLB or sign one as a FA and move Puz to the outside I really think that he has Pro-Bowl potential.

It’s POZ.

lol, actually his name may be written Posluszny, but if you pronounce his name properly, its pronounce puz-lus-ny. So I call him Puz, not Poz

Ok fine, I’ll start calling him Poz then.

Why is this even a question?
There’s not going to be a discussion about whether they need to keep one over the other. I don’t understand the point of this???
Why can’t we keep both?
~K
"As the governor of Louisiana once said, the only way Chris Kelsay can lose his job is if he got caught in bed with a dead girl or a live boy."
I agree I would def keep both but...
there seems to be a lot of hate for both of these players on this site… I was just curious who everyone thought was the better player.
Poz, by default
Haha
Poz has played pretty well of late. He still can’t shed a block to save his life, but he’s starting to make some plays. Whitner is still nothing more than a rotational safety, and doesn’t look any better than he did during his rookie year. Poz is improving, at least.

I get the hate on Whitner. I don`t agree with it, but I get it. What I don’t understand is all the hate on Puz. Someone will deffinatly have to explain to me how a MLB (playing out of position) that has been in the top tier of the league at his position this year (statisticaly at least, and when considering games played) gets so much hate. I don`t get it. Puz is a quality LB amd we should be thankfull to have him.

I am not a Poz hater. IMO, The hate is because we came so close to Willis and Poz is not Willis
not saying it is fair, but there it is.
"The Bills have no playoff aspirations" – Dan Dierdorf
Yeah but Poz is the second or third best LB coming out of that draft so far. I mean Willis is on his way to being a HOF MLB if he keeps his play up, so to compare Poz to Wilis is rediculous. The only other LB that has been as productive for his team comming out of the ‘07 draft is Jon Beason. And while Beason was better the Poz his first 2 seasons, I’d argue that Poz has caught up and may even pass him. So we still got a heck of a linebacker in Poz.
by CanadianBillsFan on Dec 22, 2009 11:57 AM EST up reply actions
Beason is an excellent LB
Poz isn’t at his level.
David Harris is a much better LB than Poz too.

Did Harris come out of the same draft I though he was out of the one before Poz.

Nope
We could have had him if with our original second round pick without trading up like we did for Poz…..

"As the governor of Louisiana once said, the only way Chris Kelsay can lose his job is if he got caught in bed with a dead girl or a live boy."
It has nothing to do with Willis
and probably everything to do with all the hype Poz has received. Calling him the next Shane Conlon and future Pro-Bowler, blah blah blah. He’s an average, maybe above average at times, LB that cost the Bills two draft picks. I think all of that is why he receives so much scorn, along with not making any plays for the longest time. Not missing out on P Willy.

Hmm…sounds a lot like a certain 2009 1st-round draft pick, except he hasn’t even been average.

Keep Both
We need them both and wouldn’t it be nice if they played their natural positions. Other than OL and QB this team needs depth at positions, natural depth. Their has been such a focus on versatility in recent years.
Keep both, draft a couple stud linebackers in 2010, draft a stud DT in 2010. Do this in rounds 1-3. Then focus on the OL and RB in round 4-6. Then take the best QB left. Your true QB that will carry a clip board for three years.
Use F/A to replace the players we currently have in depth positions that failed miserably when there opportunity came knocking. Stop trying to cut or trade what value we do have on this team, that is ludicrous.
Excuses are a sign of weakness!!!!!!
What is Whitner's natural position?
He’s a mediocre SS and a worse FS.

Lets cut Whitner loose.
So we can draft another Safety or Corner early in this coming draft. Alot of us call for the young ones to get playing time to see what they have. Like coming out of college and starting in the NFL and being an automatic pro bowler is an automatic. Whitner has had some good games this year. He started the season out well above average.
Just because we have gone 7-9 the past few years doesn’t mean that every player we have is average or mediocre. Are the Steelers or Giants players mediocre or average. They are having bad seasons and recently are superbowl champs. This is a team sport where every player needs to know what the other’s doing for the team to be succuessful. Whitner and Poz belong in the NFL and in a starting lineup. Proper leadership, surrounded by talented players from a starting role to through the back up roles is a must. We obviously lack in quality depth. Whitner stays. The only arguement is his draft position. How much control do we fans have over that?
Excuses are a sign of weakness!!!!!!
Fans have no control over anything.
So I’m not sure what the point of that was. I don’t think Kurupt or I were arguing that he should be cut, just that’s he’s not a world beater.
