Ask The Falcoholic!
Before I get into the questions, I'd just like to mention that the Buffalo Bills are a hated rival of the Atlanta Falcons...for me, anyways.
You see, growing up in New England with something weird in the water supply, I ended up a Falcons fan and my best friend ended up being a Bills fans. There was no natural conflict there, so we co-existed happily and banned together against the useless horde of Patriots fans everywhere we went. That continued right up until I got my hands on my first copy of Madden.
You see, my friend is just plain better at Madden than I am. For over a decade, I've endured an endless series of heartbreaking Super Bowl losses by ridiculous scores like 105-98, and my career record against the Bills is well below .500. So you'll forgive me, this week, if I flinch a little at the prospect of playing you guys. There's a dark (also lame and not real) history there.
But you came for the questions, right? I'm here to answer everything from "Will Michael Turner play and re-aggravate his ankle injury yet again?" to "How can we destroy your defense?" If you could please recommend this post so it stays near the top, it would be much appreciated.
Here's to a good game, and Happy Holidays to you and yours!
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

Why is Matt Ryan playing so poorly this year?
Every time I’ve watched him, it’s one nice throw followed by a bad throw/decision.
With that said, how confident are you that he’ll light up our broken secondary?
Besides Ryan, and I guess Turner now, what’s so different about this year’s team over last year’s playoff version?

Good questions, all
I’ll start with why Ryan is doing so poorly this season. The quick answer is that I really don’t know why he’s seemingly regressed in 2009. The longer answer is that well I don’t know why, I can pinpoint the how: Passes that are sailing on him, quickly and poorly made reads, happy feet in the pocket, nagging injuries and a randomly ineffective offensive line. Those are not a few of my favorite things.
That said, I expect he’ll do pretty well this week. The line held up against the Jets and while he looked pretty poor in that game, the Jets do have arguably the best D in the league and it was extremely windy. With Roddy White open a few more times, he’ll probably be decent, at least. I worry about Jairus Byrd.
I think it’s injuries and coaching. We lost about half of a promising defensive rookie class, we’ve been down at least one cornerback most of the year, we lost dynamic wide receiver Harry Douglas before the season even started, and so on and so forth. Guys like Ryan and DE John Abraham are dealing with nagging issues. Then you have a familiar name, Mike Mularkey, whose play calling has been all over the map this season. Guy calls three straight gadget plays, we punt, the Falcons get the ball back and it’s three runs right up the gut. Drives me insane.

Thanks for the answers.
I wouldn’t worry too much about Jairus Byrd unless Ryan throws a bunch of deep passes over the middle. As long as they work Roddy White along the sidelines and deep, there will be success for you guys.

Honest answer?
We’re at home, getting injured players back, desperate to shake off a 40+ year streak of not having a back-to-back winning season and you’re battling injuries of your own? Realistically, you guys could always beat us, but I would say the odds are stacked against you coming into this one.

It was sarcasm
Even the Bills couldn’t lose that one. They already beat the Jets, Panthers, Dolphins and Chiefs when the D forced 4+ turnovers.
If Brohm does start, scoring points off of those 6 INT’s would be tough. Not that it isn’t tough enough as it is.

Although seeing Byrd get 6 INT’s, therefore breaking the most INTs in one game record, INTs in a season by a rookie record and INTs in a season record all in one game would be great to watch.

Thanks for giving the Byrd man so much mention.
He does have a tendancy to steer the ball away from the middle of the field. It will be interesting watching this match with Gonzales deep in the center. Also, we are waiting for the other DB’s to realize what a difference it makes in protection when they face the QB and can see the ball coming Vs having their backs to the ball the whole time. Good luck this weekend, seriously, but remember we are not that good this year, but we don’t quit.

and do you think they will look to him more against the Bills because Brian Scott is going on IR this week and they have no more LB’s to cover him? Does Gonzo do better against LB coverage or SS coverage?

I’ve endured an endless series of heartbreaking Super Bowl losses by ridiculous scores like 105-98
hahaha, that’s fantastic. Instead of looking at Buffalo as a rival team, you should consider this a great opportunity for your Falcons to lay a beating on our sorry team.
Onto a question:
What’s up with John Abraham? He’s really, really good, but only a handful of sacks this year. Is DE your biggest offseason need, or are you happy with Beerman (I know that isn’t how it’s spelled, it just should be spelled that way) and Sidbury developing?
I signed up for Second Life about a year ago. Back then my life was so great that I literally wanted a second one. In my Second Life I was also a paper salesman and I was also named Dwight. Absolutely everything was the same. Except I could fly. - Dwight Schrute

It is partly nagging injuries
But in all honesty, he’s not having that down a year, except he’s not getting sacks. His numbers as far as quarterback pressures or hurries goes are on pace to meet or exceed previous years, so it’s perhaps that last foot or two that he isn’t getting. That might be because he’s lost half a step.

I’d imagine he gets a ton of attention from the offense too. Are you guys not partially in offseason mode yet, or are you already starting to talk draft? Is DE the biggest need (I’ve seen a lot of mocks with Derrick Morgan to you guys and it seems too perfect to not be very possible), or maybe LB? What more under the radar needs do you guys have for this offseason?
And another question, who is the best player on your team that most Bills fans or casual NFL fans have never heard of?

Until we cap that 9-7 season...or don't
I don’t think anyone’s really thinking off-season yet.
We really could use an elite cornerback. Someone like Joe Harden would really make a difference for this defense. I think we could use a DE and some pieces along the offensive line, and I wouldn’t say no to any quality pieces on defense that are available.
My guess is you haven’t heard as much about Curtis Lofton as some other players, but he’s quietly been near the league lead in tackles and is a force of nature at linebacker.

I also had Cedric Benson on the same team and he went down too.
Roddy White also cost me some games in one league, due to inconsistent play.
I play 3 leagues and this is the first year in about 8 years I didn’t win one, I didn’t even make it to the playoffs in 1 league. finished a game or two out in each league for a playoff spot.

Well, lets see
Buffalo figures to start:
QB: a third string guy who was poached off another teams practice squad about a month ago
RB: Jackson and Lynch, both capable of taking over a game
TE: third and fourth string TEs
WR: Evans, Owens, and Reed—not bad if someone can get them the ball
LT: a something string guy who is ill suited to play LT
LG: Levitre—a good lineman
C: Hangartner—an okay center, nothing to get too excited about either way
RG: Incognito—the talent is allegedly there but he’s a headcase…and due to be on IR before this time next week due to the curse of the Buffalo Offensive Line
RT: Probably Chambers, a guy who had been cut in the offseason and is back due to all of the injuries—in the past he was a decent reserve swing tackle
LDE: Kelsay/Denney—count on either or both of them losing contain on a reverse or rollout
DT: Kyle Williams—solid guy, not spectacular
DT: Marcus Stroud—see Williams, Kyle just with a bigger name
RDE: Schobel—nothing to worry about; whenever Maybin is in the game run right at/past him unless he gives you the first down via a boneheaded penalty
OLB: Draft—I think he’s on the team purely because he fit Digorgio’s jersey
MLB: Poz—misses way too many tackles but plays well in spurts
OLD: Scott?—he got hurt (a safety playing LB getting hurt while mixing it up with the big boys…who knew?) so it may be Harris instead
RCB: Florence—he’s been okay but nothing special
LCB: Corner/Youboty—Corner has been beaten like a lippy wife after her abusive hubby comes home from the bar with lipstick on his collar while Youboty can’t seem to play more than 3 consecutive downs without being hobbled
FS: Bryd—highly opportunistic but useless in run support
SS: Whitner: he’s made some plays this year but not exactly terrific at run support
K: Lindell—he’s had a solid year, again
P: Moorman—he’s the team MVP
Of course we could make things more challenging, Lisa, but then the stupider students would be in here complaining, furrowing their brows in a vain attempt to understand the situation--Seymour Skinner

They had Cato June in for a tryout yesterday. We can only hope.

Florence has actually been very good for us this year. Nothing spectacular, but increadibly solid.

Do the Bills need to worry about Jerious Norwood?
He seems to be a track demon, and the Bills can’t defend a cut-back run to save their lives. Will he see significant playing time, in your opinion?

If you can't defend against him, anything's possible
The use of Jerious Norwood hasn’t been consistent over three coaching staffs, so I have no idea how many carries he’ll get this weekend. I do expect us to run early and often.

He seems like he could be another version of Leon Washington. It’s too bad no one there seems to know how to use him well enough to exploit teams.

It's sad that the most unrealistic part of that
Is the 10 carries, not the 362 yards.

Seriously, Norwood has a 36.2 average this season? I knew it was around 6.4 for his career leading into 2009.

Why start worrying about opposing RBs now???
Seriously.. No… not to worry.. I follow Atl a bit because I lived there for years until recently, but Norwood is a RB version of our own Brad Butler… Could be/should be a really good player, but due to injury bug, can’t stay on the field… That aside, yes, has the speed to kill a team that loses containment, but his running style seems to make him easier to tackle than his size would make you think… If he breaks it though, no one will catch him….
