More Locker Film. Washington vs ND.
Clausen won this one, but it sure wasn't Locker's Fault.
Start at about 9:34, the last two throws he makes in overtime, are both PERFECT money throws.
The first goes thru the receivers hands.
The second (Which is a super throw, perfect placement) hits the wide receiver in the hands and drops it.
This is why I'm so high on Locker.
His stats are more due to the talent around him rather than his ability.

Why doesn’t anyone say that about Clausen, though?

First pass was dropped, but the 2nd one was not a good throw IMO
After looking right, Locker comes back to the middle and stares down his receiver, throws the ball late, and almost gets the receiver killed. That is why he drops the ball. Again, this doesn’t mean I don’t like Locker. I am just not seeing it in these clips.

agreed
hung his receiver out to dry on that second throw. there’s a difference between putting it on the receiver’s hands and making a “perfect” throw. I like Locker, too, but that’s not an example of a good thing, IMO.
If it had been any lower it would have been picked

The thing you have to understand.
Is locker made the correct throw despite the situation.
He went for the win, sure he may have hung out his receiver, my guess is Tate pulls in that throw, thus my talent point.
Trent Edwards or Fitzpatrick never makes a throw in that situation, they get sacked.
There's not a wide receiver who is fast enough, that J.P. Losman can't overthrow him on a fly pattern.

I don't understand......what situation?
Locker put them in third and long by taking a sack on 2nd down. The WR misses the ball on 3rd down. So it is 4th and 19 in overtime. Time is not an issue, correct? Locker throws for the endzone, which is about 15 yds farther than is needed for the 1st down. Wouldn’t throwing to a WR for the 1st down be a better decision? Why is it the correct throw? Because the guy was briefly open? Trent has several pick sixes that resulted from throwing to a ball late to a WR who was open. And in the NFL, Tate gets a helmet in the back and goes on IR for the rest of the season.
Again, I am not trying to pick on Locker. I just don’t understand why these highlights should convince me he is worth drafting with our #1 pick.

there was zero chance of a pick six on that throw.
He laid it in between 4 defenders perfectly when they were playing the pass. it hit him in the hands, where none of the defenders had a chance to pick it, if it hits you in the hands, an NFL receiver should make that catch. If the receiver holds on to it, it is a win.

My point on that wasn't that it could have been a pick 6.....it was that the throw was late

Did you see a WR?
open underneath?
Who was it?

I sure didn't.
See a Receiver open for a first down.

I’ve never seen a person answer their own questions so much on this blog. :)

But did you see?
A receiver open underneath?
I didn’t.

There were two WRs who line up the the right side who go out of frame early
I don’t know what happens to them. Did Locker miss them because he rolled away from that side? Did the WRs alter their routes when they saw Locker roll out? Maybe the coaches didn’t call that kind of route?

Locker's O-line is like ours...horrible
Clausen has a much better line and every time he hit a reciever the had 10 yards around them

Which is why I locker.
His highlights, come from him, because he has zip for talent around him.

Give him Lee and TO to throw to,
He’ll make Flacco look like a rookie even now.
