Florence and Porter released

Does this mean anything to us? Can we use any of these players? I don't know the answers to any of these questions.
I don't think the Bills will pick up any of these players Porter obivously showed he is injuiry prone, but Florence might have some value in our secondary when greer probably leaves. Big fat contracts they didnt live up to, how sad
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

I know that both of these guy were mentiond last year. I’m not sure the Florence is still needed but at the right price Jerry Porter could be worth disscusion.
The time has come for someone to put his foot down. And that foot is me.
Actually, I think a corner like Florence is exactly the player the Bills should target if/when Greer leaves. Depending how much money Buffalo is planning on spending this offseason and which other spots they want to go after, I would expect them to sign a player a few weeks into free agency. Someone like Andre Goodman, Dominique Foxworth or Bryant McFadden if Buffalo wants to spend a little on the position or someone like Joselio Hanson or Florence if they can come cheap. Keiwan Ratliff is a young journeyman who could battle Corner for the 4th CB spot and provide good depth too. I would prefer Buffalo sign a CB then draft one in the middle rounds.
I always forget that Greer is a FA. It’s like a mental block, and I refuse to believe that he won’t be a Bills next year.
You’re right if Greer goes they could bring him in, but hopefully for less then what the Jags gave him last year.

Florence really bombed in Jax and considering that most of last year’s mid/lower tier CBs are also looking really overpaid now (Randall Gay – 4.4 mil per season, Jacques Reeves – 4.0, Travis Fisher – 3.0) AND considering the depth at CB that will be available this offseason, I just can’t see guys like Goodman, Foxworth and McFadden getting more than a few mil a season and guys like Ratliff, Florence and Hanson getting more than 2 mil. I think if you wait a few weeks into free agency then someone decent can be had cheaply.
damn you guys, you had me put my hopes up that Joey Porter was available… not likely the phins will ever let him go… but i can dream can’t i?

btw, Pass on Jerry Porter, but florence would be a very nice adition if we let Greer go, probably cheaper too.

wow...
that’s a lot of money to eat after just one season (I was a big Florence advocate last off-season -opps!)
6 year, $36 million for Florence – $12 million guaranteed lost + $1 million salary = $13 million for one season.
6 year, $30 million for Porter – $10 million guaranteed + $1 million salary = $11 million for one season.
That means between the two of them, Porter (11 rec, 181 yards, 1 TD) and Florence (nickle back) the Jags spent $24 million!
I gotta say this, at least they were willing to admit their mistakes and suck up the financial loss *cough*ralph*coough*.

some teams admit their mistakes
some like the Bills just let them play their 4 year contracts out

btw
Florence might be cheap now, and would be a good pick-up for a nickel back if Greer leave. He played very well in that roll with San Diago two years ago.

McCorners start
Youboty as nickel. Anybody else not seeing this? He would be too expensive to be a 4th CB.

Our 4th CB started a bunch of games last year. We need that depth and signing a decent CB is something I think the Bills have to do. It doesn’t have to be a big name and they don’t have to pay anybody more than a couple mil a season, but they will have to give out a decent contract to a CB, if you ask me.
You're right about the depth.
I think bringing him here is a good idea for the right price. We can’t be paying ridiculous money to a guy that may not see the field, though.

Absolutely, when I say Florence might be an option, I am operating under the belief that he will recieve a contract much, much lower than last year’s. Even Will James who the Bills signed just to compete for that 3rd/4th/5th or even 6th CB role got a 2 year contract and although the figures weren’t released, I bet he made over a mil each season. I think the Bills will have to give out a decent sized contract to a CB assuming they don’t draft one on the first day (I hope that is a safe assumption). I’m thinking they sign the best player they can to a 3ish year contract for about 2.5 mil per season.
Florence
is exactly why Greer won’t get mega bucks like some of you think. Nobody is going to offer a guy who really hasn’t proven much a big deal, especially after what happened with Florence.
Kawika Mitchell is a leader. He will help this young team develop.
One can only hope.

Porter is WAY TOO OLD and Florence..............
Has no chance of ever becomming a Bill. We already have Corner, Youboty, McKelvin and McGee. Those will be our starting four next year. I don’t like it at all because McGee’s contract runs out next year and he isn’t that great. Keep Greer instead. Plus, he is younger, with more upside.
The time to deliver is now and if you fail to do so you will no doubt witness the consequences first hand.
We had those four guys AND Greer on the roster and still signed Will James last offseason. Buffalo will sign a vet cornerback and depending on how cheap Florence might have to sign for because he sucked in Jacksonville last year, he very possibly could be an option for Buffalo.
We signed Will James before the draft
He was always a stopgap. When Corner played well in preseason James got released. Plus we had huge question marks over Greer’s head.
We had McGee as our only starting CB with Greer/Youboty at the other side. We signed Will James to be number 4 then drafted McKelvin and Corner.

Same difference with James then. Either they had 5 CBs and signed James or they had 5 CBs and spent a 4th round pick on one. OBD clearly wants that kind of depth, both in numbers and quality of players at the CB position.
Greer, Youboty, and McGee on the roster. Signed James. Had 3, signed 4th.
Drafted 5 and 6.

He’s spent the whole year on the PS didn’t he?

We cut him...
Signed by Green Bay to the practice squad in October.
December 8th he signed to the Jags active roster.

Whats wrong with an old Reciever?
I saw we bring in an Amani Toomer or a Jerry Porter. They will probably start early and maybe produce and if they don’t we get to see more of what Steve Johnson can do, which is how its going to be if we don’t bring in anyone. Personally I think Porter is just what this team needs at the receiver position
I saw we keep Greer
The Patriots have a ton of home grown players on their team, Greer is a home grown gem the Bills have produced. I hope they keep him because the odds one of our corners gets hurt and misses a large amount of time this season is almost guaranteed.
Amen I like Greer much better than McGee
The time to deliver is now and if you fail to do so you will no doubt witness the consequences first hand.
Can I ask you why?
I see many Bills fans say the same thing, but it’s somewhat hard to understand why. What has Greer ever proven? He was mediocre at best in 2007 and was better in 2008, but couldn’t finish the season. He’s never started a full season and is pretty undersized. McGee is also MUCH better against the run. Why does everyone love Jabari Greer so much? Because he had 2 pick 6’s this year? Do we all remember how overmatched he was at times in ’07 and how useless he is supporting the run?
