Around SBN: Clippers Need To Realize That Spurs Are The Anti-Grizzlies

PFT's Mike Florio, who is really the only journalist actively investigating Marshawn Lynch's most recent legal fiasco, has an "update" on the situation.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello has not commented on the situation, specifically in regards to whether or not Marshawn is defined by the league as a "repeat offender" of the personal conduct policy.

In terms of on-field impact of Lynch's arrest, this definition is critical, as repeat offenders are those players targeted for suspension under the PCP.

Florio also reminds us that commissioner Roger Goodell recently spoke about the PCP, mentioning that in the case of repeat offenders, the NFL doesn't have to wait for the legal process to conclude before handing out a suspension. Yes - that is probably bad news for Lynch.

Needless to say, this "update" is hardly a "fresh of breath air".

Buffalo Rumblings - all you care to know about the Buffalo Bills and more

You know, Wilson’s gotta be thinking that paying for Peters is a more solid move than would be giving Lynch a raise. At least based on character.

Why would he be thinking that? Lynch has three years left on his deal and even less bargaining power than Peters had this time last year…

Just forcasting for the long term. Lynch is a liability when not in red, white, and blue. I’d think Wilson isn’t happy about handing out money to problems.

Sure, but theoretically, the “long term” you’ve defined is 3 years from now. If Lynch keeps his nose clean from this point until that point (insert skepticism here), I doubt Wilson would have a problem.

i

can’t handle having to hear about this damn legal stuff all off-season…..it is so annoying. I can’t wait for the combine to start so we can put this under the rug for now. The kid is a kid who hangs out with people that carry guns, drink under the influence, and who knows what else. Am I going to say “hey your a pro athlete you can’t do that?” Absolutely not. He needs to figure out. We can all sit here and say if I had that money….well we don’t and he does and the people he hangs with are putting Lynch in bad situations.

I love Lynch on the field. Unfortunately his off teh field behaviour may make him a liability. Let’s just hope this doesn’t end in anything more than a 4 game suspension

Nothing new. The league can review it as the case unfolds, but can cut it off and suspend/let it slide at any point. The legal process will take care of itself. And we all pray that it doesn’t take four months to conclude.

it will

get drawn out all off-season….lawyers and lynch…..will plead not guilty obviously and unless a plea-bargain is reached early, it will most certainly go to a court hearing(s)

I needed that fresh of breath air.

That video was exactly what I had to see to put a face back on my smile.

Stuff happens, especially when you are Marshawn Lynch. We all hope they end up dropping the charges due to illegal arrest, which very well could happen. Would Goodell still suspend ML if this turns out to be the case? I don’t know if he would…

Even if the charges are dropped, and Lynch slides past suspension again, I will maintain my position that the team needs to let Marshawn know he doesn’t live in his own little universe, and his actions can hurt many.

I have developed the opinion that football teams need to be more proactive about their players public behavior. Not really sure how I would go about it, but it might include hiring a car company to drive the players anywhere 24/7, upon their request. Most of my other ideas sound like babysitting, so I won’t go there.

by Brian Galliford on Feb 16, 2009 6:37 PM EST up reply actions

I doubt that Garcia will come here.

He’s still got the skill to be a starter in the NFL, so he’ll look for a team that he can have an oppertunity to start with, and thats not the bills.

What we need is a vet that can come into a backu role. Thinking Charlie Batch or Chris Simms, maybe even Patrick Ramsey. They’re no Longer starters, but would be benefitial in Trent’s advancement in the NFL.

by CanadianBillsFan on Feb 16, 2009 7:09 PM EST up reply actions

I didn’t say Garcia would come here. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him in Minnesota at all.

Man, my list of backup QBs is COMPLETELY different than everybody else’s here…

Never expected you to say Garcia

I was considering it a Given that he’d start for another team next year.

Who’s on your list of backups, by pure curiosity

by CanadianBillsFan on Feb 16, 2009 7:16 PM EST up reply actions

I’ve got five that I like. Rex Grossman (!!!!!!!!!), Joey Harrington (!!!!!!), Kyle Boller (!!!!!!), Ryan Fitzpatrick (!) and Dan Orlovsky (!).

Seriously? Those guys all stink and are the turnover prone type of QB we’re letting go. Why would we want any of them scrubs?? Maybe Fitzpatrick, but I’ll be super angry if we bring in one of those other bums.

Really?

I can see how Boller could help Trent, or how Fitzpatrick could be a good backup, but Harrington and Grossman? Really?

by CanadianBillsFan on Feb 16, 2009 7:23 PM EST up reply actions

LOL. Yeah, really. It’s not as crazy as y’all think it is. We’re talking about a backup, after all…

Buffalo Rumblings - all you care to know about the Buffalo Bills and more

by Brian Galliford on Feb 16, 2009 7:32 PM EST up reply actions

I know it's not as crazy as it sounds,

I’m just not crazy about signing a guy that has more INT’s than TD’s (Grossman), although the more i think about it, the more I like the idea of Joey Harrington.

That being said, he’s still behind Batch and Ramsey on my desired QB’s list. But since I highly doubt that Batch will leave Pitsburg and Ramsey may retire before he’d consider Buffalo, either Chris Simms or Joey Harringtone would be nice pickups.

by CanadianBillsFan on Feb 16, 2009 7:37 PM EST up reply actions

Yes, and we all saw what happened when our backup entered the game last year. These guys are the same types of QB’s as he who shall not be named anymore.

And you just can’t forget Ryan Leaf, if for nothing else then for his 1/15, 4 yards, 2 int performance in 98.

by CanadianBillsFan on Feb 18, 2009 2:36 AM EST up reply actions

As opposed to… ?

Charlie Batch? He’ll retire before he ever comes to Buffalo. Byron Leftwich should get a starting offer somewhere.

Brooks Bollinger? Ken Dorsey? Charlie Frye? Jamie Martin? J.T. O’Sullivan? Anthony Wright?

There isn’t a lot out there. It’s a backup QB. I’d rather have a guy like Grossman or Boller – guys that are actually talented – than some drone to throw four-yard dump-offs and hand the ball off. Grossman is my guy. I never thought Chicago did everything it could to develop him.

Ha, whoops. I’m an idiot, but at least when I’m an idiot, I’m an idiot twice. Replace “Grossman” with “Boller” in the second to last sentence, and “Chicago” with “Baltimore” in the last sentence.

But now I’m p!ssed off. I told you I was working on my FA/draft/off-season novel. How the hell did you you steal ideas I had saved on my desktop?

Kyle Boller isn’t an idiot.

I’d rather have a talented backup that can make plays as opposed to a freaking awful Edwards clone.

NO I am home sick today....must have been the medicine talking

John Clayton reported that Lynch’s hit and run did not count, so this would be his first mark under the PCP. That least that is how I understood it at the time. Maybe I better watch it again!!!

Lynch has to get something for this.

Even if he is found “not guilty,” for whatever reason. If not, the kid will certainly think he’s infallible, and God only knows what will happen next time.

2 strikes says Clayton

IF and ONLY IF there is some sort of guilty plea here. Otherwise the league CANNOT count this against him. THEY HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE LEGAL PROCESS BECAUSE THE GUN WASN’T DIRECTLY ON HIM.

The time to deliver is now and if you fail to do so you will no doubt witness the consequences first hand.
