Police: Marijuana Found in Lynch's Car
Tankenson tells 2 On Your Side's Adam Benigni police approached the black Mercedes Lynch and two others were sitting in it was parked suspiciously with the engine running, and that the car didn't have proper license plates.
"They (officers) knocked on the window of the car. Someone unrolled the window. They saw three people in the car and they could smell a strong odor - marijuana coming from the car. They had the occupants exit so they could further investigate to see if there was any marajuana in the car. What they found were four, not marajuana cigarettes - what they call blunts or swisher sweets that appeared to contain marijuana in them," says Tankenson.

yeah, not good
If it went done like that, things aren’t looking good. Forget all those “constitutional” issues people were talking about. The stop and search were proper.
And Lynch seemed to catch a legal break regarding the marijuana (which he probably should have been charged with), but he’s going to catch no such break with the NFL. Remember, convictions and charges don’t matter – Godell is be-all, end-all. Not good at all.
I just have to know, if you are a Pro-Bowl NFL running back, what are you doing smoking marijuana in a car in a dark parking lot?! If you’re going to be stupid and smoke marijuana, why wasn’t he doing it at home?!

Indeed, if that was the case, the detention and search was proper. The only question remaining, from a legal standpoint, is whether the firearm belonged to Marshawn.
This is terribly disappointing from a judgment standpoint. As far as marijuana goes, who cares? The problem is he chose to do so in public, in a car. Even if he wasn’t partaking, he can’t put himself in that position.
Most likely, assuming the firearm charge doesn’t stick, he is looking at a 1-2 game suspension. If that charge sticks, he’s looking at a minimum of 4 games.
It'll be just you, me, and Peter Nincompoop.

I care.......agree with it or not pot is illegal. When you start connecting the dots,
this is really starting to look bad, and not just from a legal stand point. I can’t wait to find out who the “choir boys” are that Lynch was with. I am beyond caring what the legal ramifications are. I really don’t know if I can support someone this stupid being on the team.

Forget character
Yes, he is dumb, but outside of dumb these are not moral issue offenses. He is not a rapist or something like that. Football players are not that smart many times, and this is another case. However, he will need to shape up because this will soon translate into ineffectiveness on the field if it continues.

Re: "Football players are not that smart many times"
That’s a ridiculous statement to make. I don’t know what you do for a living, but I’m sure you work with some smart people, and some dumb ones. This is a typical athletic stereotype, and it’s completely wrong.
We have three issues on two occassions with Lynch now (more of the OP police were able to chime in I’m sure). One was a complete moral issue (the hit & run). This latest incident is just getting too stupid to comprehend.
by krytime on Feb 17, 2009 11:39 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Listen
They are athletes, many times they are gym rats, or they put alot of time and focus on merely staying in shape or just knowing about football. In many cases, the football player, the athlete, the strong man, the whatever, is not also a scholar, and can be either just a regular guy (which is usually not all that smart and inclined to do dumb things, unless he is also moral), a complete dumb ass (see Travis Henry), or he can actually be quite smart and gifted intellectually. However, when we are talking “regular” guys, they can also be dumb, but if they are “righteous” or “moral” in some sense, then they don’t look quite so dumb because at least they do the “right” thing. I mean dude, they are football players.

So..
I would say for the most part football players are of average or below average intelligence. 20% dumbass, 60% regular, 15-18% smart, 2% exceptionally intelligent. That would be my ball park guess on the intelligence of all the roughly 2,000 players in the NFL

In light of the test...
At least based on their Wonderlic scores from the given test, this seems pretty plausible. Then again you could always argue “seperate intelligences” or whatever that is.

That’s a bit optimistic if you compare it to the rest of the country. I’d say 60% of this nation’s population can be categorized as dumbass.

I think half of the “regular” just happen to do alot of dumbass things. So while hey may be more intelligent than your “dumbass” group, they lower themselves to that level.
For instance, I will say that hearing Travis Henry speak and seeing his life and everything else, I would say he is clearly a dumbass. There just appears to be a glazed over quality to his being. Now Marshawn, I think is of a bit more regular intelligence, but acts like a immature dumbass, and his actions are proving that over and over. So we’ll see what happens, but since I don’t know him personally it is hard to say.

Can't wait until tomorrow's reports.
Really – what’s next in this? On Thursday are we going to hear that there was also a hooker in the car? Maybe Friday we’ll hear Bin Laden was in the car too, or Pete Rose, and he and Lynch were talking about betting on games. Maybe we’ll find out they were on their way to the kind of dog show Michael Vick liked.
Message heard on Fred Jackson’s VM:
“Hey Fred. This is [insert the name of some scumbag agent like Rosenhaus or Parker]. Just wanted to call and introduce myself. I was hoping we could talk about a mutually beneficial partnership. You know – you could probably make some more money with the threat of a holdout. You’re not that young anymore. You should call me.”

And if Jackson holds out, good luck to him. He has zero leverage despite the Lynch news. He can’t negotiate with anyone else, so he’ll be just an unemployed player making no money and accruing no seasons towards FA.
The Bills will give him the contract that an ERFA deserves, though they’ll probably give him a significantly better deal. He won’t get a monster deal that some seem to think he could be in line for because Lynch got arrested….

Never say never. What if Lynch is suspended for a significant amount of time (say 4-6-8 games)? Even though Jackson has “no” leverage, stranger things have happened.

Are we aloud to put up a "Trade Marshawn" thread?
Cause suddenly this seems like a great idea. I’m sure some team is going to take a chance on him… he now seems like the kind of player the Cowboys or the Raiders would trade for.
by CanadianBillsFan on Feb 17, 2009 11:47 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Why is this a great idea? He’ll be suspended 4 games or so, but we should just trade him even though he’s probably our best player?

I wouldn’t trade a player for doing pot, but if it did cause serious problems, like it did with Ricky, then i’d recommend that the man get some help. and at this point it becomes clear to me that Marshawn needs some help. Not so much for the pot, but for the direction his life seems to be heading into and for his horrible lack in jugement.

This is a non factor. Like New York, marijuana has essentially been delegalized. Anything less than an ounce isn’t even an arrestable charge. In California you get cited and a $100 fine for having a hair less than an ounce of marijuana. I’ve never been much of a smoker, but I think that those 4 blunts wouldn’t be anywhere near an ounce. As long as he doesn’t fail a drug test, he can smoke all the weed he wants to.
