My draft preference
I recently have reviewed a couple of DE in this draft. I looked at C.Barwin, E. Brown, T.Jackson, B.Orakpo, L.English. (spelling could be off on these names)
I would trade the 1st and 3rd pick this year to make sure we get Everette Brown. I think with out question he is the best DE available. Barwin reminds me of Kelsey, Jackson and English seem ok, but not #11 material (maybe early 2nd IMO). Orakpo reminds me of the 1st overall draftpick by the Eagles years ago. The hulking Off Tackle that was a work out warrior and was horrible in the NFL. IMO Orakpo is one dimensional and too much of a physical specimen.
Is it a coincidence that only Everette Browns highlights on Youtube are double the length of other DE in this draft (6 min versus 3). I think it is because he has so much more to show. Brown has an arsenal of pass rush moves (spin, misdirection, speedrush) and shows great body awareness versus his fellow DE's. On his speed rush he does a great job of not just getting up field, but has the control to dip his shoulder underneath the OT to turn the corner and get the QB when he steps up into the pocket. He also showed the ability to spin out of double teams and get sacks. Lastly, I saw the ability to play contain (important in our 4-3 under/ Tampa 2 scheme) versus QB's on the rollout. I saw great field awareness and body control to FINISH plays. I'm tired of DE who just effect the play. Our DE's rush the QB and then the QB steps up and makes the play or throws the ball away.
And if OBD can't get E. Brown trade down and take Pettigrew. As a sidenote I heard Alabama Center Antoine Caldwell speak on Sirius then checked his profile. I like him alot as a Center pick. Very smart, he got his degree in 3 years (IMO is the best attribute to a center). Has great agility, versitility (played C & G), but not the road grater. Would love to hear everyones opinion

no way I would trade our 1st and 3rd to move up
Despite the opinions of many here, the odds of no defensive ends going in the top 10 remains high this year. This years defensive end class simply is nothing special. We stay put at #11 and Orakpo or Brown will be there in my opinion. I don’t think you can base anything on the length of youtube videos. So Brown’s fans are more computer savy. That tells me nothing. Neither should go in the top 5 in my opinion
If we can finagle DE Brian Orakpo and C Alex Mack I will not complain about this team for a whole season. I promise.

When was the last time no DEs were picked in the top 10?

you'd be suprised
In 2005 no defensive ends were taken in the top 10 and in 2006 the only DE in the top ten was Mario Williams with the first pick and he was a consensus stud.

in 2003 and 2004 there were no defensive ends taken in the top 10 either

I AM surprised
That’s a 4 year run with very few DEs going in the top 10…of course, it seems only one DE will really matter to Buffalo and he’s not likey to make it out of the top 5.

not so sure about top 5
Me personally, I think Orakpo or Brown are gone by #11. But not everyone thinks that its a given. In fact, a mock at NFL.COM has no DE until pick 13 and doesn’t have Brown going until 25 to the Dolphins

A consensus stud?
Everyone expected him to bust that first year.

sure
they thought him being taken ahead of Bush meant he was going to bust because Reggie would be better but no one doubted that Super Mario was the best of the best

Agreed....only first round QBs bust more than first round DEs
No way I make it worse by moving up, not with anyone in this group.

Yes I did account for that fact
The highlights were all done by the same “user”. I think the name was draftparty. So that at least helps to “highlight” my comment in regards to length. I also would like to note that in no way does the video length done by the same “user” mean Brown is better because of the length. I was merely trying to point something out.
I just think the Raiders or Green Bay may take the DE I want.

No, but it is all I have access too
so thats all I can go by. I do not watch college football and play catch up during the offseason to get my information.

Unfortunately
I think you are right. Everette Brown is the BEST DE available coming out of college. But he won’t be there when we pick at 11. I like Orakpo but not as much as Brown. If the Bills settle in the first round I will be MAD. Brown has excellent quick first step, he is long and lean and he uses his hands very well to shed offensive lineman. I think he will be a terror in the NFL.
The time to deliver is now and if you fail to do so you will no doubt witness the consequences first hand.

and...
what about Ayers, Maybin, Gilbert at DE? Its a good start, but think you have to look a little deeper than Youtube videos…

OK look at stats then if you want. What has Ayers done? Gilbert isn’t a DE here.

So I’m guessing you made your opinion by having working knowledge of a wider group of prospects… Thank you for proving my point!
This post is a good start, but I would of liked to see them all broken down to better support the argument.

I can see your argument
I was trying to focus on the top of the class because I’m tired of taking the 2nd rd DE that is a hard working blue collar no sacks kind of guy.

Mayock has DE Ayers in his top 20
By Chris Brown – Posted February 20th, 2009
Tennessee DE Robert Ayers has been known as a fast riser since his Senior Bowl performance and color NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock impressed.
"He’s the fastest riser in the draft I believe," said Mayock. "I watched him at the Senior Bowl and his explosion and quickness just blew me away."
Mayock thought Ayers best game was against Alabama.
"He handled Andre Smith and they even kicked him inside to play some three technique," said Mayock. "I think he’s the perfect 4-3 end. I’ve got him in my top 20 now."
