Michael Vick???
Sportsillustrated posted this from the National Football Post
"What team will take on Michael Vick?...B uffalo is at a crossroads at quarterback. The Bills need Trent Edwards to stay healthy and be the Trent Edwards of the first four weeks of the season. They have an owner who's not afraid to take chances and is willing to do what it takes to win."
http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/view/91810-teams-that-might-take-vick
Does anyone even think this is a remote possibility? Would he come in as Edwards backup, and if he falters step in?
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

This is actually from National Football Post’s Mike Lombardi.
Just because a team has quarterback questions doesn’t mean they’ll have interest in Mike Vick. It’s stupid that the two are linked in any fashion.
There is no chance Vick comes here. None. So don’t worry about crap like this.

I disagree
“Just because a team has quarterback questions doesn’t mean they’ll have interest in Mike Vick”
Any team that has QB questions should definitley be looking at Vick! Yes, sure he is an idiot with a tone of baggage but he will have done his time and is going to have a huge chip on his shoulder. The NFL will reinstate him and he won’t be suspended for any games.
As long as he can prove he hasn’t lost his speed, some one will get a bargain on a player that could be great again.
For the right price, and I think he will have to come back for no more than the veterans minimum with some possible incentives, he could be a great pickup for Buffalo or just about any team that needs a backup.
To expect Buffalo or any to simply dismiss him is idiotic. Sorry.

i guess i’m an idiot – i’m completely dismissing this
he’s not a good passer – he’s got obvious baggage – and well…he’s a moron. i’d rather them just stick with hamdan than Vick

Look, you’re blurring the line between “interest” and “knowing Michael Vick’s name”. OF COURSE there are teams that will hear the name “Vick” and say “no thanks”; you seriously believe otherwise?!
Smart teams will look into the Vick situation to see if it’s a smart investment. But to say that teams will completely ignore the dogfighting fiasco just because he’s talented is what’s idiotic. Sorry.
I never meant to imply that every team with QB issues wouldn’t even consider the situation. I’m merely saying that not every team that has QB issues will have more than a passing interest in him.

plus Brian – as you’ve countered my point on this a few times – I do think that in this situation (peta – dog fighting) they will take into consideration his character.
i know you’ve said before its not as big an issue as I think – which is probaby true – but that is a taboo topic for some people. i could be wrong – but that will obviously play into any discussions about him – whether here at OBD or anywhere else

I’m not bluring any line and I’m not calling you or any one on this site an idiot, far from. I’m just surprized, I guess, that you find the idea of adding Vick to the Bills roster or apparrently any roster to be out of the question. the NFL is repleat with players who have been given second and third chances. How many times was Pacman in and out of the league? Sure there will be backlash from groups like Peta but the basic argument that he has paid his dues will outway there opposition easlly (is there spell check on this) .
I doubt the Bills would acctually pick him up but I do think they will give it considerable consideration, if they don’t than there not doing there job.

The only team I’ve heard about even sniffing around Vick is San Francisco and that was pure rumor. I think He’s overrated as a passer. The PETA-dog issues will haunt him for a long time, and rightfully so. If I were Russ Brandon I would wonder about how many season ticket holders would cancel if the Bills signed Vick. He and his agent have a ton of PR work to do before the public will accept him again. BTW – I am a founding member of peta in our county. We call it People who Eat Tasty Animals.

…why did he make them out of meat?
or
…why did he make them taste so good?

PFT is tracking the Anti-Vick cadre
I think they’re up to about 5 teams who have gone on record as saying that they will have no interest in Vick. If Peyton Manning was trying to get back into the league after a child pornography conviction he might generate some interest because he’s a great QB. Vick, on the other hand, was a guy who relied heavily on this athleticism—something that fades with age…and time in prison.

I still wouldn’t want him.

I doesn’t look like there is one team interested in Mike Vick. So the media will do what they always do when there isn’t a story, they make their own story. If you ask ESPN or other media outlets which team is a good fit for the Vick, the answer will be that every team could use Michael Vick. Obviously Buffalo is going to have zero interest in Vick.
Truth is that Vick will end up on Atlanta’s roster on the suspended list because Vick is under contract through 2013 and you don’t have to pay suspended players (I think that’s true, but I’m not sure) OR Vick will just get outright released. Since he won’t be able to play this season, nobody is going to trade for the guy (I don’t think anyone will take that contract anyways) and the way things change quickly in the league we just don’t know which team might be a good fit for him next offseason. It’s too early to talk, or even care about Vick.

If i owned a team, I would grab him
But I don’t, and the Bills probably won’t. He is an extreme talent, with obvious running ability and a strong arm. He actually has the JP syndrome of not knowing when to throw many times, but he is so athletically gifted that he goes beyond that.
I think that, in lieu of what I read about the prospect of Tim Tebow coming into the NFL and how he could be a force in the “wildcat”, I could see Miami taking Vick and running a kind of two-QB system, where you could see Vick on about 10 – 15 offensive plays, and he could line up all over the field. He would be extremely cheap, and well worth the gamble. And it is just the kind of ballsy Parcells move that makes him who he is.

I agree
i wouldnt want him as my starting qb. I would however take him as a utility player and throw in some crazy offenses. Hes athletic enough to play a lot of positions. Dont get me wrong i hate him for what he did to those dogs but i could look past it if he got the bills to the play offs. he did his time and he should be looked upon as a new man.

The Bills are terrible at using gadget players. It would never work. Their “Wildcat” was the same play over and over last season.

Maybe, maybe not
Vick is gifted enough to where he fits anywhere. I am also willing to bet he added some poundage, and if you had a backfield with Vick getting the snap, and Lynch and Jackson on either side, and you had options to run or throw, offenses would not know what to do.
The Bills won’t do it because they are afraid. But I think there is a 50/50 chance he lands in our division.

Funny...
Currently, I perceive Ralph Wilson as an owner AFRAID to take chances and unwilling to do whatever it takes to win.
No Vick. Not here, not ever. Not good in thought and not sound in concept.

What teams could handle Vick?
Oakland and Al Davis could handle the baggage of Vick. I have never believed Russell was the answer and by the time they figure that out maybe Vick is ready to play.
San Fransisco the team could handle it I think but not the ultra-liberal city.
Seattle? Detroit? What teams could possibly do it?

I thought about Miami...
If Parcells isn’t there I can see that. Do you think Parcells would bring in a guy like Vick?

Oh yes
Parcells will do anything to win, and Vick will come cheap, and you can always cut him if it doesn’t work out.
It is not as different from what Billy B did in New England bringing in Moss. A player who basically was out of the league playing in Oakland a couple years, was a bit of a character risk and could have been well off his game, came in and became the most productive receiver in terms of TDs in history for a single season.
Vick has that ability to be a player who can make alot happen with very few touches. And, he comes cheap. it also shows up in Miami’s attempt to do some creative things in order to win. I know, the wildcat the wildcat, its all you hear sometimes, but it was intriguing enough for every team to try and, and now another wrinkle is thrown in there if you have Vick. Now, you don’t have to slide Pennington to WR, just let him sit a play or two, let Vick go in, and see what happens. If I was a coach I would love it. And while Vick isn’t the most accurate QB, in a limited role he would be almost too much for a D to handle with Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown beside, and when he is on, I would have, and we’ll see what happens now, but I would have put him up there with the top athletes to ever play the game. And that is something that is hard to disagree with

They did draft his brother, didn't they?
Or at least sign him as a rookie FA.
I know it wasn’t the current regime, just sayin.

Vick has a TON of ground to make up
and the Bills are not ready for any of that. They will never consider Vick as an option. Listen to Brian, we have a very old-school regime and Vick doesn’t come close to fitting the mold.
The time to deliver is now and if you fail to do so you will no doubt witness the consequences first hand.
by Cutter3636 on Feb 20, 2009 3:19 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Maybe that's our problem?
We should be doing whatever it takes to win. Now, i don’t think he fits for other reasons, not the “BUffalo Bills mold”, but he certainly will land somewhere, and I think he will do very well in a limited role, perhaps to start, and then possibly in an expanded role, even to starting QB.
