Devin Moore - RB

Many of you may remember that I took Devin Moore in round 4 of the Rumblings' Pre-Free Agency Author's Mock.  Some of you loved it, others hated it.

Well, Mr. Moore apparantly wasn't invited to the NFL Scouting Combine, so he took matters into his own hands (per PFT):

Wyoming running back Devin Moore wasn’t invited to the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

So he held his own.

On Thursday, Moore performed in T-shirt and shorts for scouts who were in town for the much bigger party for which someone who isn’t good enough at scouting to get a scouting job with an NFL team deemed Moore to be unworthy to attend.

According to Gil Brandt of NFL.com and Sirius NFL Radio, representatives from 14 teams attended the workout.

Moore ran the 40-yard dash in 4.43 and 4.41 seconds.  Per Brandt, the 4.41 would have been the fifth-fastest time at running back at last year’s Combine.

(That said, we haven’t seen or heard whether the times will be adjusted based on any possible differences between the surface on which Moore ran and the FieldTurf at Lucal Oil Stadium in Indy.)

Moore also jumped 35 inches vertically, 10 feet broadly, pressed 225 pounds 27 times, ran the short-shuttle in 4.22 and 4.29 seconds, and performed the three-cone drill in 7.14 seconds.

Since Moore resides in Indianapolis, he was permitted to arrange a workout there.  Otherwise, he would have had to wait until the Wyoming Pro Day

Some thought he was going to run in the 4.3's, so his 40 times may be a little disappointing to them, but I think this is a win for Buffalo.  I've been an advocate for Buffalo adding a 3rd "scat-back" to their running back stable, and ideally I would like to see them add the guy late in the NFL Draft.  Even the 4th round is a little high for my liking.  Had Moore posted in the 4.3's, you could forget about him slipping that far.  But since he posted average to above-average 40 numbers, he may just be around when it's worth it for Buffalo to take a chance on him.

Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

This is a hilarious story.

Good for him for holding his own combine. Any word on what 14 teams were there?

That is great

that he took the onus upon himself to show his skills. Sounds like he had a great workout as well. You must remember that the running back position is very deep in the NFL. THere is talent everywhere at RB.

The time to deliver is now and if you fail to do so you will no doubt witness the consequences first hand.

I'd love to have him

That shows alot of determination, and with those skills, I am surprised that he was not allowed at the combine. Or invited as it were.
Either way, there are alot of RBs, but I ust read somewhere that Emmitt Smith ran a 4.7 at the combine. That says alot in terms of the 40 yd dash being meaningless.

Anyone on Marshawn’s combine workouts? I forgot the numbers. Or did he just have a pro-day?

Lynch ran a 4.46

I don’t think 40 yard dash times are meaningless. Emmitt Smith played at a different time where nobody really prepared like they do today. I bet Emmitt would have run a 4.55 at the combine had he prepared and that is the kind of speed he showed in the league. He was never the fastest running back, but people knew that when he was coming out of college. He just wasn’t that kind of guy. When you have players who rely on speed in college who run slow at the combine, you’ve got a problem.

perhaps you’re right, but still, the 40 isn’t as important as the other drills, especially because the players train for it like they do. That i certainly what i’ve heard and it seems to translate. Of course, if guys are running 4.3, they’re pretty fast, and if it matches up with the tape, you can definitely have a gamer at CB or WR (see McKelvin and evans)

It depends. I think 40 times are only important if a player runs slower than you would expect him too. I wouldn’t upgrade a guy who ran faster than expected nearly as much as I would downgrade a player who dissapointed.

Apparently, TFY Draft is reporting that the Bills were one of the teams at Moore’s workout…

I would like to have the kid, especially if he can get nabbed with say our 5th rounder

I want a scat back as much as anyone since we have Lynch for between the tackles and Freddy for pass catching and Lynch subbing between the tackles. A kid who can just take it and run like the blazes out over the edge could do wonders for our O. Heck, if we got this kid with a comp pick in the 5th I would die happy.

I told the witch doctor that I was in love with the Buffalo Bills, and instead of telling me to say "Oh eeh oh oh ah, ting tang walla walla wing bang" in order to make me feel better he told me to buy a gun and end it.

Best-40 time at Combine

Moore would have had the best 40-time at the Combine had he gotten an invitation (4.41)
