Gibril Wilson a logical choice to solidify our secondary!
As has been mentioned many times before we need another safety. There has been talk out there about Sean Jones who I do like. But, with the recent srelease of Gibril Wilson, I say we make a true play for him.
He is one of the best safeties in the league. He can actually cover a TE or a slot WR unlike Whitner. This would allow Whitner to be put back at the Free Safety spot where he belongs. This way he can actually just float around in the secondary to use the ball hawking skills he had when coming out of college and has yet to put to use in the NFL. Gibril is also a very good blitzing safety and great in the box.
In my opinion, he is young at 27 and experienced. This will help solidfy our secondary going into the season if we made this move. Is he going to be costly, yes. But, I think with how far under the cap we are, and how were are set up going into the possibly no cap 2010 year, this would be a perfect fit. The Bills could afford him and he will be an automatic upgrade to our defense.
Thoughts?
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

A bit too much, methinks. From what I’m hearing, Buffalo isn’t going to break the bank for these types of players, so you can cross off names like Jones, Brown and Boley, too.
Matt Birk might be our best hope at a “big name” signing, but the team is expected to target several players in free agency.

Nothing like adding several mediocre players along the line of Tripplett, Royal, Reed and Price…

Agreed.....
I’m tired of hearing how much it will cost. If the player makes sense, then pull the trigger. I’m tired of saying, “well, he will be a good fit at a good price”, or “if we can get him on the cheap”. I’m a firm believer of, you get what you pay for. THIS is why the Bills are always in the position we have been since our SuperBowl years. If we want to get back, we will inherit the want to “Win Now” belief. Hell guys, we have been rebuilding for how many years now? If we have the money to spend then lets spend it.
OK so overpay for a guy???
Clements was good. Should we have paid 10M per for him? That’s ridiculous.

You are making an assumption.....
of what they will be paid this year. There is a reason the Raiders released him. His price. With teams being cautious about the cap now he is a free agent in the wrong year. He will most likely have to reduce his asking price by a few million. I see him signing a deal for about 6-7 mil per year for about a 5 year deal. To me, that is a perfect price to pay for a player of his caliber that will only upgrade our defensive secondary.
You can not expect to upgrade our team by going out and getting 2nd and 3rd tier guys. You might as well expect another 7-9 or 6-10 year if we do that.
At that price I don't mind signing him.
As long as we get an OLB in here stat. The logner I look at the list of OLBs the more I think it’s Crowell or Round 1/2 of the draft.
Where I was, I am now not hopeful we will draft a center this year.

He was just on a deal for $6-7M per year, that’s why he was released, along with not taking a cut in his roster bonus. Is some team going to moronically give him another contract that big?

If they have enough cap money
and it helps them right away, why not? Game changing player in the secondary we all want. Great tackler, great cover guy on TE and slot wrs. Great all around. Do we need it? The answer is…YES.
I guess my opinions go as far as the Bills so in the playoffs though. Hmmmm…Wait, maybe my opinion should mean a bit more. :)
THIS is why the Bills are always in the position we have been since our SuperBowl years.
Short answer: no, it isn’t.
Longer answer: the reason we can’t get out of our decade of mediocrity is because we haven’t found the answer at QB (perhaps we have now), and we haven’t been able to string together a number of consistent, deep draft classes.
The consistently good teams draft well, and don’t do anything in free agency. Just look at the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Cowboys/Redskins/Raiders. Not always
There is only one NFL football team that plays in New York state...and Canada?

Didn’t say that, buddy. They’re just thinking more along the lines of Kawika Mitchell than Marcus Stroud, for several reasons, not the least of which is that there just isn’t a ton of impact available this year.

Sure it would be a good upgrade but how much will it cost?
He earned 9M last year all together. If we got him dirt cheap I wouldn’t mind but not break the bank money, which is what he will probably ask for.

Wilson
would be an excellent pickup but he did repeatedly punch Reed in the head last year. He was ejected from the game. I don’t like Wilson’s character, but he is a very tough, physical safety. The Bills won’t even think about him. Too much money. Brian is right we can all dream and hope big but we aren’t going to see any big FA names coming to Buffalo this year.
The time to deliver is now and if you fail to do so you will no doubt witness the consequences first hand.

No – it’s the truth. WOW – Why do you take everything I say and not only highlight it but you always portray me in a NEGATIVE light?
I feel like I am your number 1 target ALL THE TIME

He was saying it about himself anyways...

Hmm… since there’s already a G. Wilson on the Bills, he’d have to have his full name on his jersey. Just like STEVE JOHNSON.
