Who's your Bills 50th Anniversary Team?
With the Bills announcing their 50th anniversary logo today, there is also the opportunity to vote for the All-Time Bills. Since this is about as exciting as it gets as Bills fans (sigh), I think it'd be fun to discuss some of our choices. Some positions are very weak, others a major strength of past Bills teams. As for me, here's my ballot:
QB: Jim Kelly
RB: Thurman Thomas
WR: Elbert Dubenion
WR: Andre Reed
WR: Eric Moulds
TE: Pete Metzelaars
OL: Stew Barber
OL: Reggie McKenzie
OL: Joe DeLamielleure
OL: Kent Hull
OL: Billy Shaw
K: Steve Christie
Returner: Terrence McGee
Apparently no defenders are available yet. How dumb.

I highly doubt anyone would vote for Jauron
I can’t imagine anyone not voting for Marv Levy…. Though Gregg Williams is tempting.

I went
QB: Jim Kelly
RB: Thurman Thomas
WR: Don Beebe (mainly because at this point my list was looking to much like K’s for my own comfort)
WR: Andre Reed
WR: Eric Moulds
TE: Ernie Warlick
OL: Stew Barber
OL:Ruben Brown
OL: Joe DeLamielleure
OL: Kent Hull
OL: Billy Shaw
K: Steve Christie
Returner: Steve Tasker (not sure how he will lose this category)
The time has come for someone to put his foot down. And that foot is me.

Tasker was on there? I missed that. I guess it was for Special Teamer and not return man. Oh well.

I’d throw Tasker in as the WR, unless they have a STs category. One way or another, that dude needs to be included on an all time team. Dubenion was great, but if you have Reed and Moulds, you could get by w/o him.
No Reggie? I liked Reuben a lot, and he did a lot for this community. But those 8 Pro Bowls were overrated. I think I’ll stick with the gut from the Electric Company. I’d also be inclined to chose Ritcher.
On the flip side, it’d be funny to see the worst all time team.

There’s far too many choices for that.

Why was there even a choice for QB? And why did they include Norwood in the kicker column? Are they trying to get lynched?
Craig.

Norwood would be my choice. No joke. One bad horrific moment does not a bad career make.

While that is true, Christie was a great clutch kicker.

Agreed. I still take Scottie.
I still get a bit emotional when I think about his reaction to that defining moment. (Don’t remember who, but) one of the big guys on the team trotted up to offer a pat on the back for condolence, and Scottie was in so much pain that he ducked out of reach. I didn’t see that until I watched NFLN’s Lost Rings program.

I have seen that clip, too.
The response of the crowd at the welcome home rally when he spoke was great. But still, Steve Christie has more points, field goals, on-side kick recovers, PATs, and everything else and he should be the guy.

Can't argue with those numbers.
I make my pick on a sentimental urge. I do miss Christie. The guy was awesome.

Are you serious?
Only one between OJ and Thurman. Gotta go with Thurman for his all-purpose yardage.

That, and he’s not a murderer.

well yeah but that has nothing to do with his play on the field 25 years before his alleged murder...
he was still never convicted not that I think that was right.

My team:
QB: Kelly
RB: Thurman over OJ
WR: Reed, Moulds, Dubenion
TE: Metzelaars
OL: Kent Hull, Joe D., Jim Richter, Billy Shaw, Ruben Brown (beats out Peters)
K: Steve Christie
ST: How can it not be Tasker? The position was made for him.

Am I the only one hoping they were the gray helmet and whatever the uni was at some point this year? If you’re going to celebrate 50 years, at least wear the uni from 50 years ago once. They’ll probably do it in the HOF game against the Titans/Oilers.

Why only 1 RB?
I would choose a FB and RB, Gilchrist and Thurman. I just don’t know why they would limit it so much. Maybe they wanted Thurman on there and did not want O.J. involved at all. Anyway, here is my 50th anniversary team so far:
QB- Kelly
RB-Thurman
WR- Reed, Dubenion, Moulds
TE-Metzelaars
OL- Hull, Billy Shaw, Joe D, Howard Ballard, Will Wolford (I went w/ 2 tackles, but would choose Reggie McKenzie and Ruben Brown if going just 5 o linemen)
ST – Tasker
K – Steve Christie
I posted an all time roster of 53 on my blog www.buffalobillsandblazers.blogspot.com on Oct. 20

Wow, no love for OJ
Even if you hate the guy as a human being, and lets face it, he’s turned into a world class jerk and fellon, but he’s still one of the best RB’s of his time.

But can you honestly say he was better than Thurman?
Certainly not as an all-around back. You may be able to make a case for them as rushers but not with everything Thurman did. I wish we could vote for 2 RBs but it’s probably a good thing as OCblazerfan said.

Best all-around back, Thurman hands down, Best Rushing back, I think It goes to OJ.
But i looked up their career stats after putting up the posts and I honestly didn’t know that Thurman’s hands were that good, it easily tips the scales in his direction if you can only pic one.
If only we could pick a whole team, including depth players, not just starters, imagine what we could do with Thurman and OJ as a 1-2 punch. Add Kelly and Reed and thats would be a GREAT offence.
