DT Shaun Cody to replace McCargo?
DT Shaun Cody. Is he just another McCargo or is he a victum of the Lions organization? Here is the link and a teaser.
"Cody played extensively during Mariucci's twelve weeks and nearly not at all under Jauron. A beef I have with both Jauron and Marinelli is an overdependence on practice performance when determining playing time. In 2008, Marinelli slotted Cody behind Chuck Darby at right defensive tackle. That's a mismanagement of talent."
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

Thanks, but no thanks. I didn’t like him coming out of college, and I certainly don’t like him any better now.

What don't you like about him?
With McCargo’s back problems, lack of motivation, lack of production, and the Bills attempt at trading him, I am not sure that Cody wouldn’t be an improvement. If the money for the two were equal, why not bring him in to compete with McCargo and cut whoever looses the battle?
Bad boys, bad boys whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do
when they come for you?
LOL, well, saying someone’s an improvement over McCargo isn’t saying a lot, is it?
Cody is too light for me, and too soft. I have never liked a single USC defensive lineman in recent years, and Cody is included there. I want a bigger, tougher, nastier option.

So do I , but I am trying to be realistic
We will most likely not get a DT in rounds 1-3. We will most likely not get Fat Albert or Shawn Rogers. Many have said they would be OK with letting McCargo be our 4th DT. So, why not bring in someone who has been stuck in a lousy situation and might actually be better than McCargo? Do you have a better option?

Yep. C.J. Mosley of the Jets. Bigger, tougher, better for our rotation.

I am confused
Bigger, tougher, better for our rotation.
In 2008, Mosley is listed at 305lbs. Mosley had 17 tackles and 1.5 sacks.
Cody is listed at 310lbs. Cody had 36 tackles and 0 sacks.
How is Mosley a better player?

He plays bigger; he has the skills to play nose in a 3-4. Cody is more of a penetrator.

You seem to be making my case for Cody
we don’t play a 3-4 and our DTs are supposed to be penetrators.

I didn’t say Cody wasn’t a bad fit for our defense; I just prefer a run-stuffer, as that’s the type of player our DT rotation currently lacks.

Why would he play for Jaruon now but not then?
pass.

If Cody is willing to take a contract at or near the vet minimum, then I am all for bringing in vets to fill out the roster as opposed to undrafted rookies. Anything that might force McCargo to work harder is worth doing.
On a side note, if I were to put the chances of McCargo making the roster at 50/50 does anyone think he has a better shot at making the team then of being cut or am I completely alone on that?
I actually think he has a shot to make the team. Considering his low contract, draft status, and the lack of quality big men who can move, why wouldn’t they give him another chance?
There’s a reason why they say don’t judge a draft until three or four years or so. It’s because sometimes some guys need that amount of time to adjust to the pro game. Or in this case, to grow up.
We’re a franchise who hasn’t done well as of late. Instant gratification is something we all hope for. In Big John’s case – we didn’t get it. But hopefully, like Youboty, he might break through soon.
I think we will know by the end of April.
If they draft a guy he is probably gone unless he shows up in a big way at OTAs and Training Camp. That in unlikely.
