Collins, Titans Far Apart
Friday, February 27, 2009
Posted By Mike Florio 12:10 AM
The Tennessee Titans previously decided to bring Kerry Collins back as the team’s starting quarterback in 2009.

The only problem? They can’t work out a contract with him.

According to Terry McCormick of the Nashville City Paper, Collins wants more than $8 million per year. The Titans aren’t yet ready to enter that ballpark.

So, instead, they’ll be focusing on backup Chris Simms. Other teams that might pursue Simms include the Texans, the Cowboys, and the Bears.

Meanwhile, Vince Young is playing Madden.

If the Bills were a drug, I could only they were speed so I could lose some weight as well.

Haynesworth fielding alot of calls: via ESPN.com

So it looks like the big boys are getting the calls, but this is interesting, and tounge in cheek as well…

Haynesworth’s phone blowing up?

February 27, 2009 12:20 AM

Posted by ESPN.com’s Matt Mosley

ESPN’s John Clayton just reported on SportsCenter that Titans unrestricted free-agent defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth is fielding more calls than expected. That might make it tougher for the Redskins to get something done. The Bucs have a lot more room under the cap than the Redskins.

I just talked to someone in the Redskins organization who said nothing’s close to happening — in the first 12 minutes of free agency! Last year, the Dolphins waited at least 30 minutes to sign the first player of free agency. I think teams want to wait at least an hour so the tampering that goes on (shhhhh!) won’t be so obvious.

An NFL Live free agency special begins in three minutes if you’re interested.

FB off the market Richardson resigns with jets per espn.com

Richardson retained by Jets
Posted: February 27th, 2009 | Adam Schefter | Tags: New York Jets, Tony Richardson

At the opening of free agency, the popular deals were re-signs.

Just as the Redskins resigned CB DeAngelo Hall, the Jets did the same with FB Tony Richardson. It’s believed to be a one-year deal, with New York keeping the dependable blocker and locker-room leader.

If the Bills were a drug, I could only they were speed so I could lose some weight as well.

Palmer trying to convince TJ to take deal with Bungals, per espn.com

Palmer bugging T.J.

February 27, 2009 12:33 AM

Posted by ESPN.com’s James Walker

ESPN’s John Clayton just provided an interesting nugget on new free agent T.J. Houshmandzadeh.

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer has been “bugging” Houshmandzadeh all day, according to Clayton, telling the former Pro Bowl receiver not to ignore his former team in free agency. It is unknown if this will influence Houshmandzadeh’s decision, but it couldn’t hurt when your former quarterback is doing heavy recruiting.

Houshmandzadeh certainly will have no shortage of interest. Earlier this week, the AFC North blog listed the top eight suitors.

Stay tuned.

If the Bills were a drug, I could only they were speed so I could lose some weight as well.

Ron Bartell checking out the Saints

He wasn’t a 1st, 3rd, or 12th choice of mine for a backup CB, but he is another CB going somehwere to check out the cash scene.

Bartell lines up visit with Saints

February 27, 2009 12:45 AM

Posted by ESPN.com’s Mike Sando

After failing to get a deal with the Rams, cornerback Ron Bartell lined up a free-agent visit with the Saints. That was the word from John Clayton on NFL Live moments ago.

The Rams, meanwhile, have plans of their own. They have lined up a visit with Ravens center Jason Brown. As we’ve discussed, Brown would dramatically upgrade the middle of the Rams’ offensive line. The team has been getting by with stopgap players at center.

OL Hangartner to visit Bills Friday

Posted: February 27th, 2009 | Adam Schefter | Tags: Buffalo Bills, Carolina Panthers, Geoff Hangartner

Panthers free agent guard/center Geoff Hangartner is scheduled to visit Buffalo on Friday.

Hangertner has a good market as both a center and guard but Panthers offensive tackle Jordan Gross has been pushing to keep his buddy in Carolina.

But Buffalo, which cut guard Derrick Dockery on Thursday, will get first crack.

Far from my top choice

But probably a decent backup

ESPN Insider:
Hangartner is a versatile backup who can play either guard or center. He has good size and functional play strength, but he’s more of a finesse position blocker than a road grader. He has a good understanding of angles and body position. He’s an above-average athlete who has good movement skills, reactionary quickness and a high motor. He shows good bend and hand placement in-line to hold his ground. He has good initial quickness and athleticism on pulls and works well off combination blocks. He knows when to stay on his feet and when to cut in space. He matches up best when uncovered in pass protection. He has good awareness and knows when to help on either side. He has the balance and lateral agility to slide and redirect against quick interior rushers. He has active hands and good placement to control with inside leverage. He can struggle initially with explosive, penetrating linemen and needs to work on adjusting quicker after the snap. He doesn’t always maintain pocket depth against interior power rushers.

Housh's interview on NFL Live

Was pretty cool. Talked about being nervous and pulling an all nighter. Teams he wanted to play for: Giants, Eagles, Minnesota, Seattle…

Said he may have a deal within 30 mins…

Seattle? Minnesotta? Really?!

Yeah I watched his interview too. I was surprised to hear MIN and SEA in there considering the former is missing a legit QB and the latter a running game.

welll

to be fair he said “good coach” and then later mentioned good running game/o-line too…. and then mentioned how crazy it would be to play with Adrain Peterson. Seems like he’s more interested in going to a team that he doesn’t have to do EVERYTHING himself…

Bart Scott making push to get sign by Jets per espn.com

read about it here

Minutes into free agency, Scott praises Jets staff

February 27, 2009 12:59 AM

Posted by ESPN.com’s Tim Graham

About a half hour after he went up for bids, coveted linebacker Bart Scott spoke of New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan in glowing terms.

 Scott
Echoes from the 12 chimes of midnight barely had died out when Scott was a guest on “SportsCenter” early Friday morning to discuss his situation. He and the Baltimore Ravens failed to reach terms, sending Scott to the open market.

He’s expected to meet with the Jets later Friday. Ryan was his defensive coordinator in Baltimore. The Jets’ defensive coordinator, Mike Pettine, was Scott’s position coach in Baltimore.

“I got a special place in my heart for those guys because they are the guys that gave me the chance and taught me how to play defense,” Scott told ESPN via phone. "I was the happiest man in the world when he got the job because I felt it was long overdue.

“We always have a great time with Rex and the guys that helped kind of mature me from undrafted to what I am now. So they’re just as much a part of my success as I am.”
