Birk exploring options - Minneapolis Star Tribune
Vikings free agent center Matt Birk has reached a stalemate in negotiations with Minnesota. He's now considering alternative locales. Said Birk's agent, Joe Linta:
"We've had some calls this morning and he's trying to decide where he's going to visit right now."
Linta would not disclose any of the teams that have called, but there is a strong chance that the Buffalo Bills are one potential suitor. The real question is whether or not Birk finds Buffalo appealing.

He does seem like the perfect fit for us – that being said – he might want to go to a contender like the Steelers to get a ring.
I think he will at very least come here for a visit – i’m actually surprised that we haven’t signed him already – I was sure he’d be one of our first signings (still might be)

my sources indicate Birk is extremely frustrated with the Vikings. He really wants to make one last deal to store away a few extra million. The man is simple. Has lived in the same house over the last decade in teh Cities, has strong roots here in MPLS, but this is one guy that if the Bills simplly “pony up” they can get him for a 2 year deal with a club option for a 3rd if they offer enough guaranteed coin

I've warmed up to Birk over Brown
Just because we sign Birk doesn’t necessarily mean we won’t take a center in round 2. I have to believe that even if we sign Birk we would take Mack if he was there in the second round. At which point Mack, already a stud, would be groomed by the smartest to play the position. Can you say beast? Even Wood works

Mack, Wood, even Unger would work. I figure if any of these 3 gets two years under Birk then we also have a stud center for the next ten years. And we can occasionally put the rookie in a rotation at center and guard so he gets playing experience too. Either way, Birk is our guy at center.

I live with a Giants fan and hes about heard enough of Alex Mack. I’ve always been a bit stubborn and combine that with the fact that every year there is one draft pick I absolutely want for the Bills.
Last year I wanted Leodis McKevlin so bad and we got him.
The year we took Whitner I was going nuts when Matt Leinart fell to us and freaked out when he passed him.
McKelvin looks to be working out but right now I guess OBD was smarter than me in regards to Whtiner-Leinart. I would much rather have a decent safety than a QB who has done nothing.

The good news for center/guard Jason Brown is that the St. Louis Rams are willing to pay him $7 million per year.
The bad news for center/guard Jason Brown is that no one else is.
A league source tells ProFootballTalk.com that Brown doesn’t want to play for the Rams, and thus wants someone/anyone to step up and match the offer St. Louis has made to him.
Per the source, Brown was hoping that the Ravens would match the number that the Rams put on the table. But the Ravens haven’t, and apparently won’t.
Other teams are interested in Brown, but not at the same level that Rams have demonstrated.
So Brown is in a bind. Does he take the money from a team for which he doesn’t want to play? Or does he take less from someone else?

well that depends on what he wants – if he wants a ring and possibly more recognition then he will take less money and go to a contender. or he can be greedy and just take the money becuase thats all he wants – seems like him and his agent are just trying to maximize the contract they get by shopping him around.

He has already made alot of money over the years, so he just wanted the big one, and the Pats are on that short list of teams.

We may not have signed anyone, but they are bringing alot of players and not going overboard on Money. With Langston, butler and Peters, we dont have to spend alot of money on the other 2 OL positions.
