Buffalo Bills football cards
So being a Northern California native I dont get the chance to go to many stores that sell Bills stuff.
Today I happened upon a sports memorabilia store. They had sports cards seperated by teams for all sports. So I took a look at the Bills and Angels cards. (The lady looked at me like I was crazy for asking for the Bills cards......ha)
I found some interesting stuff
I found two Thurman Thomas rookie cards (SCORE brand) in solid cases going for 4 bucks......and I bought one because Thurman is my all time fav Bill.
Found a Trent Edwards rookie card (BOWMAN brand) for a 1.50 and since Trent is my current favorite Bill I thought, heck what a deal.
Couldnt find any Bruce Smith cards.........
But also interesting of note.
Found about 40 cards of JP Losman some as high as 10 bucks!!!!!!!!! and many over 5! and I had to laugh out loud......
Found a Mike Williams card for 5 bucks
and most shocking I found a card of Kwame Cavil for 7 bucks!!!!!!
You may be asking who the heck is Kwame Cavil ( I know I did) which is why I came home and googled him.........Guess he was drafted by the Bills in 2000 played in all 16 games and had 4 catches for 66 yards and no TD's..........I dont ever remember him suiting up at all.....but I admit I didnt always follow the team as closely as I do now (Having the internet and blogs help.......didnt have that when I was 17......plus I was more interested in picking up some skirt anyways)
Anyways I thought it was nuts that I could get a player who is in the Hall of Fame (not to mention a rookie card) for 4 bucks.........but in the same stack I could find the biggest number 1 bust in Bills History and some Scrub WR who hasnt played in the NFL since 2000 and the CFL since 2006..........for more money....just crazy.
Wondering if anyone else out there has had similar experiences.

Cavil from UT. I think we’d all be fawning over him if he were adding this year. As odd as that sounds….and he did go onto a solid CFL career at the least…

I’d donate money for them to burn any Kelsay, JP, Whitner and Mike Williams cards.

The deeper question is
Why are their Kwame Cavil, Eric King and other bozos cards out there anywhere?

Because people don't hold onto those... they get rid of them
I am more concerned about Hall of Famers going for so little. Maybe it’s the brand or something.

the reason is simple
there are so few Bills fans anywhere, let alone the West coast that these memorabilia places have no idea how to price our stuff because they can’t gauge what sells the most. They look at the card and see round 1 draft pick QB and slap on the ten dollar price tag. Then they see a second round running back and third round back and figure ah what the heck, 1.50.

How do you explain a mid round Scrub WR for 7 bucks though? lol
Cuz that is what Cavil was priced at

I don’t have many football cards I was always more of a baseball card kind of guy. I’ve got tons of those. haven’t looked at them in years though.

I know that I have like 4 Ricky Henderson rookie cards, with his recent induction into the HOF the value of those should be pretty high.

That Thomas Score card was the more valuable one

I only have the Tops (or is it Topps?) rookie.

I used to love football cards. The ’91 Stadium Club set was ground-breaking, and had the famous “Farve” mistake rookie.

Good times.

That Thurman Rookie Score Card
used to be over $40.00, if I remember correctly. After the four SB losses, all the Bills cards dropped. I would hold onto that one. It will slowly but surely climb, because it is more rare than the Topps rookie, and HOF status will help it’s value.
I have albums full of 80’s and 90’s Bills cards. I think I have a couple hundred Thurman cards alone. What was I thinking? Not about girls, clearly.

I need to unearth my collection. I have dozens of autographed Bills cards, including Kelly’s Topps rookie. I don’t care if it devalues the card without authentication. That seems to have happened over time anyway, with most cards. I too, think I have hundreds of Thurman cards.

sports cards in general
aren’t worth much at all compared to what they used to be with the internet around. i’m glad i got rid of all mine about 10 years ago and made some good cash off of it.
