New Left Guard?
According to Scout.com. Kansas City Left Guard (Pro Bowler) is unhappy in Kansas City with the new front office. He asked to talk with them but was told no. He then asked to be released and they refused. They claim that Buffalo has expressed interest in him (Waters). They (Bills) feel they can trade a 3rd and 5th to get him. What does everyone think of this. I feel it would be a great pick-up.

You got a link for this?
Trading a third and a fifth for Marcus Stroud when you’ve got a dozen draft picks is one thing. Trading a third and a fifth when you’ve got seven for a far lesser player is another. I’m not sure I’d be OK with this.
Let’s concentrate on resolving Coles first. We’ll see if we can sneak Greer and Peters in, too. I’m completely OK with the Bills bringing in a rookie to compete with Chambers as our starting LG, and I personally hate the idea of moving two picks for Waters (though I think Waters is pretty solid).

I agree. While Waters would be a nice addition, not for a 3rd and a 5th.
BG – you’re still holding out hope for Greer? That’s optimism for sure…

Despite a report to the contrary…Bills free agent CB Jabari Greer is not close to signing with the Detroit Lions…The source said Greer was in Detroit on Saturday and received an offer, but hasn’t agreed to a deal…the Bills reportedly made another attempt to re-sign the defensive back, but Greer continues to receive interest from other teams…however, the Bills are still very much in the picture.

I heard Greer was on his way to visit Cleveland after Detroit.

If our offer is very close to Detroit’s, I’d imagine Jabari remains in Buffalo over Detroit. Gut feeling.
I don’t think he’ll be playing for either team though….

I think Jabari is just using Detroit as levrage.
He knows other teams will be after him too, so whatever offer Detroit makes he’ll use as a starting point for discussions with other teams. I just hope, for him, that he isn’t stuck doing what Jason brown did cause no one else wanted to offer him a good deal. I think Jabari deserves a good, long contract and I’m hoping he goes to a good team, preferably us. So no offence to the Lions, but I hope for better for Jabari.

Jabari is in Tampa now
the Bucs are having him and Crowell in for a visit
If we can finagle DE Brian Orakpo and C Alex Mack I will not complain about this team for a whole season. I promise.

I put it in Sportscaster’s post… Buffalo’s working the phones of Peters’ agent and Greer’s agent HARD today. That’s why they don’t have any visitors in. Also, they’re keeping Coles on the front burner as well. Those three are currently commanding the majority of their attention.

Hey, if we re-sign Greer, get Peters his deal and end up with Coles, I think I might be satisfied with the offseason thus far.
Obviously, still a ton of holes, but the FO will have done some decent things to get better and keep talent.
I would still hope we bring in another G and a potential starting OLB in FA though. I want more options in the draft instead of needing to take certain positions early to fill starting spots.

so interesting
very interesting. I don’t know if we need Waters but maybe. I honestly thought re-shuffling the OL was a good option of moving Walker inside, and putting Demetrius Bell at RT but they must not see that as an option.
Why are they working on Peters so hard? They want him signed or otherwise they want to trade him?

Waters is pretty solid
But i wouldn’t give up 2pics for him. But if we can get away with only giving away a third rounder then I’d pull the trigger.

You keep saying...
Chambers to start, or compete to start at LG. Are you insane? I thought we are going to try and upgrade our line? As much as I like Chambers he is still ONLY at backup and spot starter. No way we go into the season with him as a starter. If we do, I feel we are just as weak on the o-line as we were last year.
I hope they make a play for Waters. But as some say, maybe for a 3rd or maybe to later picks.
by Hambone on Mar 1, 2009 6:06 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I fairly certain that what ever you think of Brian, he is indeed sane. Well as sane as a Bills fan can be.
Chambers did a good job when he filled in a Guard for Butler last year. He could excel if given the chance. Key word could. I would rather have a guy like Waters, and so would the Bills apparently, hence the interest in him, But if given a chance (read when Butler gets hurt again) chambers should fill in nicely.
The time has come for someone to put his foot down. And that foot is me.

3rd and 5th seems rather high
After all, the Chiefs just got Cassel and Vrable for a 2nd.
by Ron From NM on Mar 1, 2009 4:03 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
maybe just a 3rd
I,d be ok with that

Waters
Brian Water is solid and always stays healthy. He would help our run tremendously

I like Waters alot but
how bout a 4th and 5th? Or a 2nd and throw in TG in the mix.
by pasaluki on Mar 1, 2009 4:56 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
How about, sign Coles making Parrish expendable (not that he isn’t already) and make it a 4th and Parrish.
The time has come for someone to put his foot down. And that foot is me.
by sireric on Mar 1, 2009 4:58 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
for just Waters? I think Parrish + a 5th. Parrish would be a good addition to them, they could use him as a WR and a return man, I think both sides would benefit actually

I posed the same question to them and they didn’t seem to think so.

I didn’t think they would, because every fan wants the best possible deal for their team.
I do think that Waters still has some in his tank and is valuable, but he’s getting older is the problem for them and also he had a huge falling out w/ Pioli and demanded a release. Pioli may figure he’s worth getting rid of for less so he doesn’t have to deal with him.

I think you’ve made a great suggestion: Parrish + 4th for Waters. Let’s hope Pioli will pull the trigger.

heck I'd even be willing to do Roscoe and a 3rd rounder.
I think waters is better than anyone we would draft in the third and losing Roscoe’s 3M salery wouldn’t be a bad thing either.

He’d be their Dante Hall pt. 2.

Ditto. Waters is still solid, but a 3rd and 5th is way too high. How about throwing in Tony Gonzalez like Pasaluki brings up? I would give up a good amount ot get them both, but just Waters is hardly worth trading anything for.
by kaisertown on Mar 1, 2009 6:21 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
How about Parrish for Waters with a late round pick involved?
Or a 4th or 5th for Waters, as you say?
Those are the highest I’d go….
No way would I even consider trading a 3rd or more.

What??
You wouldnt trade a 3rd rnd pick for a ProBowl LG? Seriously? What, do you want to keep a revolving door at that spot like we have had the past 8 years or so? I think it would be a great move and fairly decent with giving up a 3rd. If they can make that work it would be a perfect fit for the Bills.
by Hambone on Mar 1, 2009 6:58 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
He is a pro-bowl guard but he is also 32 years old. He has lots of wear and tear on his legs. He has maybe 2-4 good years left. I think I would do a 3rd rounder, but I also can see others apprehension to do so.
The time has come for someone to put his foot down. And that foot is me.
by sireric on Mar 1, 2009 7:05 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
MAYBE, a 3rd, maybe. But as others have said, he’s 32. Then again, he’s a Pro Bowl player and signed for 3 more years at a very reasonable rate.
If we were to offer a 3rd, ok that’s fine I suppose, but no more. We can’t be giving up multiple draft picks for aging vets.

How about Parrish, a 2nd, and a 5th for Waters and Gonzalez? The 2nd rounder would be available from a trade down in the first. Assuming Coles is here, take Mack with the late 1st rounder, and go D the rest of the way.

I know that it is a new front office in K.C. but if Gonzo didn’t want to come here last year, how happy would he be to come here this year? He might not have as much say in the matter now with Pioli in charge, but that doesn’t mean that he won’t cause a big stink when he gets here.

Coming here from the Chiefs blog
Arrowhead Pride. We’re talking about the trade as well here and here.
Waters is probably our best lineman and his age (32) is the only thing that might make this bearable. Our offensive line is pretty crappy so he’s pretty valuable to us at this point.
After the Tony Gonzalez trade didn’t work out last October, we’ll see if we can make a deal with you guys this time.

Nah…draft picks all the way IMO.

Some here think Roscoe could be used differently. He’s small, but SOOO quick. The Bills tried to throw him short sideline outs, and it didn’t work. He could be a nice wrinkle to the right O.

I think if Roskoe would work on his hands then he could be a very ellusif inside route runner, à la Wes Welker, just not as good.

so
what is Waters best at? Run blocking? Is he a road grader? Does he play L or R Guard?

Left guard
He’s a 4 time Pro Bowler and 2 time All Pro. He made the Pro Bowl this year. Originally came into the league as a TE. One of those character type of guys that every locker room wants which is why we were all so shocked when he requested a trade.
For the Bills, he’d be a great addition for a couple years.
by Joel Thorman on Mar 1, 2009 5:08 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Thanks prime....
IMO I think he is one of the best LG’s in football. Because he has been able to stay healthy over his years I think he could still play for the Bills for another 4-5 years. This would be an awesome move for us. I think he is worth either a 2nd or 3rd rnd pick.
by Hambone on Mar 1, 2009 6:10 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
cool
we need veteran leadership on our young offensive unit. This would be big for us, plus our OL is really studly and the proposition of pairing Waters next to Jason Peters is something is an extremely exciting prospect on 3rd and 1 with marshawn “beast mode” lynch running behind em

he is on NFL Network right now on NFL Replay (Panthers vs. Giants) starting at right guard (Kalil is at center, Wharton is at left guard).
