Owens to wear 81; Hardy is 84
Owens has been granted the number 81, "thanks to...James Hardy". Better luck with 84 James.
Ryan Fitzpatrick is 14.
Drayton Florence is 21.
Geoff Hangartner is 63.
Update: According to NFL.com, no official word on whether Hardy will receive no compensation from Owens for the number.

It's the top link on ESPN.com/nfl right now...
Do those guys at ESPN love them some T.O. or what?

Yup, they do
And they are all still mad he got a job, becuase they have been doing their best to get him fired.
If the Bills were a drug, I could only hope they were like speed so I could lose some weight as well.
Hey
I love me some T.O. too….and I don’t know why the media (ESPN) loves T.O. so much but I can’t ever remember the Bills getting this much pub….I say good for them. After 10 years of futility adding T.O. to year 4 of the Jauron regime, a year we expect to finally get over the hump, this has all the makings of a great season (that is if the Bills actually you know….win some games)
MARVelous - "I went from America's team to North America's Team" Terrell Owens
Jim Rome and PTI
bashed TO for stealing Hardy’s number saying its a sign of things to come.
Who cares!?!
"Gooood…..let the apathy take root…" - Ron from NM
Hah, what do you want to bet that Hardy told the FO that he would hand over 81 without a fight?
And that there is probably some deal with Owens to have money donated to a charity or something like that, but because the media HATES Owens with a passion, they are all glossing over this?
If the Bills were a drug, I could only hope they were like speed so I could lose some weight as well.
Not possible.
Because TO’s involved. He probably broke down crying, “That’s my number, man…”

It is up to the Bills to get the real story out.
I don’t care if he paid him or not, as long as Hardy didn’t have his arm twisted. TO should at least take him out to Applebee’s.
You can’t let T.O. use your man berries as a chew toy!
If this was Jerry Rice, or Andre Reed coming into a new team...
and expecting to be a certain jersey number, the media would give the Hardys of the world a hard time if they don’t turn over their jersey number to the future hall-of-fame veteran. But this is T.O., of course the media will find a way to pin him as the world’s worst team-player.
Actually according to NFL.com they don't know if he'll receive any compensation.
The Bills cleared up the matter Thursday when they announced that Owens will indeed wear No. 81 and Hardy will switch to No. 84. No word on whether Hardy’s jersey change netted him a big payday.
TO’s quote appears to be typical TO tongue in cheekness.
THey must have changed it because it said the other earlier.
I know T.O. himself said he wouldn’t pay for it.

The only quote that I’ve read anywhere is the one that is given in that interview, that it’s up to Russ haha.

He said in the Toronto interview that he wasn't gonna give any compensation.

The whole thing was tongue in cheek. I’m not saying he did or didn’t but he followed it up with “Don’t forget, there’s a recession.” I don’t think he’s really hurting for money.

Right it was tongue in cheek.
But I don’t think he was kidding. :-)
