Buffalo Rumblings NCAA Tournament Challenge
[Note by Kurupt, 04/07/09 1:13 AM EDT ] Congratulation to ahizzle30 1, whoever you may be, for winning the inaugural Buffalo Rumblings NCAA Tourney Challenge. Even though you chose Marquette as one of your Final 4 teams, you were still a worthy champ. Congrats. And I'm glad I was able to have a strong showing, finishing 3rd overall, so I don't look like too big of a fool here.
Hey fellow Rumblers,
I thought it might be fun to have an NCAA Tourney Challenge for everyone here as we continue counting down the days until the Draft.
I have set up a Group on ESPN.com for Buffalo Rumblings. To sign up and fill out a bracket, do the following:
2. The link should bring you to the Rumblings group page, where you should be able to log in to ESPN.com and join the group.
3. If that didn't work, go to the ESPN Tourney Challenge page and search for Buffalo Rumblings in the Group Directory.
4. Be sure to use your Rumblings handle as your Entry name
5. Fill out your bracket once the pairings are announced this evening!
6. Congratulate me in a few weeks when I wind up on top.
I think everyone should join and play, regardless of whether you are a college hoops fan or not. The winner will receive a virtual high five from yours truly and whatever the rest of the Inner Circle wants to contribute.
Be sure to Rec this to keep it up top!
Go Syracuse!
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

Great Idea!
I’m in. As a 2002 grad of Syracuse it feels good to know they are going to be one of the teams nobody wants to play. This should be an annual contest with the winners name enshrined in the Rumblers Hall Of Fame.

If Carolina
doesn’t win, I’ll get beat. I pick them every year, and, naturally, haven’t won a bracket challenge since 2005. Living in Syracuse now I’ve obviously jumped on that wagon as well. Jonny Flynn is unspeakably good.
Kurupt,
My wife created and account at Disney to plan our vacation. I can’t seem to create an account using the same email or change the user name. Any way around it?

That 6 overtime game will go down in the history books as one of the greatest gutty performances ever. Boeheim actually had his team playing disciplined and under control the whole game. I was very impressed. If they can play with that kind of discipline in the NCAA’s they could go far. They sure hit the wall in the second half against Louisville, but hey. Love to see Rautins shoot 3’s. GO CUSE!!!

You guys (and anyone else for that matter) should throw up a post on the ESPN site to say what your Rumblings name is just so everyone knows. It will be fun to see how people we have come to psuedo-know so well do when predicting what happens in an entirely different sport.
Well M. Warren and B. Galiford are probably enough.

Syracuse showed me they can play with any team.

They are both in the South bracket. UNC is a 1 seed and Syracuse a 3 seed. Cuse’s toughest opponent will be Oklahoma in reaching the finals of that seed. If they get to the South finals they very well could play UNC. I love March Madness.

I went with 'Cuse making it to the elite 8 and losing to UNC
Devendorf is why I have them losing there, he just SCARES the bejebus out of me when he is on the court. He can shoot the lights out, but if he goes cold, on top of his already lame D and lazy ball handling, were in trouble.
The guys we need to keep playing big are Jackson, Onuku and Ombagetaasdsgfdfgdh (he is like Housmansomethingorother to write out without looking!). If our Bigs can keep getting easy buckets through the tournament and Christof can keep moving the ball out of the fouline either into Jack and Onu or out to Rautins we win.
Its scary, my final 4 is UNC, Louisville, UConn and Villanova. 3 Big Beast teams in the final 4, gee wonder where my loyalties lie?
If the Bills were a drug, I could only hope they were like speed so I could lose some weight as well.
I’m more worried about Rautins having an off day. The team plays so much better when he’s hitting shots. Devendorf has been able to find other ways to score when his shot isn’t there. In fact, he doesn’t have too many poor shooting nights from deep, while Rautins does. Lately, both have been really on though, so hopefully that continues.
I was down on them for much of the year because of their refusal to play hard, to play defense and to hustle. With Ongenaet getting more playing time lately, he seems to be rubbing off on his teammates and they’ve all stepped up their hustle and defense as a result. I still worry about lapses where they play lackadaisical and stupid ball, but I’m pretty confident in them right now. If they can protect the rock, keep up the improved D, and most of all play with the heart and determination we’ve seen lately, they have a chance to have a great Tourney.
The Big East is by far the best league, and I have trouble finding any reason to not put at least 2 of them into the final 4. I really think there could be 3 teams from the BE going to the Final 4, with some good matchups in their favor. I really find it hard to pick against Louisville and Pitt with their regions looking so weak, to me. Pitt’s biggest challenge will likely be Villanova too.
~K
"I’m Kurupt with Buffalo Rumblings. I am worth hundreds!"
'Nova just needs to keep itself under control and get back on D if they start missing 3s
Most teams though will have fits trying to stay with 4 guards on the floor chucking it up, they can run a team ragged. Louisville is just so tough with Pitino being able to go 10 deep on the bench. That press D is just plain murderous.
If the Bills were a drug, I could only hope they were like speed so I could lose some weight as well.
Spot on
about the lack of defense and hustle. For most of the year, I saw the same thing you did. A seemingly nonexistent desire to play hard on both sides of the ball, go after loose balls and rebounds with vigor, and to buckle down the zone. I haven’t heard the theory about Ongenaet yet, and I have to say to me it seems completely legit. I have noticed him getting much more PT lately, and it is certainly possible that his hustle is rubbing off.
I think sometimes the zone allows them to get lazy on the defensive end, which then gets them in the wrong mindset for rebounding and driving as well. But in the BE tournament, they really extended their zone out which allows them to get a little bit more aggressive and I think gets their offensive mindset in the right place, too.
If they make their 3’s (especially Rautins and Devo), and Jonny continues his aggressive drives and dishes to the big men, I really like them to get to the Elite 8 and beat Oklahoma in the Sweet 16.
Im with you on this.......
but my final four is Memphis UNC, UL and Pitt

But if all of you get a chance, read the article Chris Chase has on yahoo sports. OMG, you will start laughing when you see what he has about Syracuse. I will let you read here what i posted at #145……………
Chris Chase……… are you pulling everyone’s leg about Syracuse? You had them as a 7 seed? Come on now, they were ranked before the big east tourny at 18 in one poll, 20 in the other with a RPI ranking of 16 which automatically should make them a 5 seed. After the Big East Tourny, they jumped up to a RPI of 12 which would make them a 3 seed. Sounds like the committee knew what they were doing………. you i would question if you know what your doing!!!! I hope someone from Syracuse post this one in the locker room, and they make it to the final 4 in the process. 7 Seed…….hahahahhahahahaha, its the dumbest thing i have heard in a long time!!!! Do you have something against Syracuse? Did they turn your college application down???

That whole bracket stinks. Memphis did nothing all year except beat up on Conf USA garbage teams. I think all the 2 seeds suck this year, though Duke and Oklahoma are pretty good teams. I have Memphis going down in round 2.

many would argue that Duke and Oklahoma are the worst of the 2 seeds......
Duke is one bad shooting night away from being sent home in the second round……(which I hope doesnt happen)

I've got Duke losing in the Sweet 16
I just don’t think they’ve got the horses or fortitude to make it past that point. Oklahome is a joke of a 2 seed.
If the Bills were a drug, I could only hope they were like speed so I could lose some weight as well.
It all depends on which Duke team shows up......
If its the one that lauched and hit 3’s at will vs FSU in the ACC championship game…then I dont think many can beat them……but if they shoot like the did against Michigan……then they are very beatable……
Live by the 3……die by it as well.

When i jumped in and mentioned the Syracuse and UConn game, i was a little worried. Since i have only been at this site for a couple of weeks, and it was suppose to be a Bills site, I was worried that someone would jump on me at mentioning another sport. I was in one group where i mentioned another sport and was belittled for it. I was fairly impressed by all the Bills chatter, football chatter period really, but to get to chat about the NCAA Tournament, and Kurupt makes the NCAA Bracket Challenge for the Group, i was like “this group is way to freaking awesome”. Man you guys start talking about Sabres hockey, college football, little baseball (pretty much playoffs only) and Fantasy sports on here, i probably will never leave this site……. EVER. Possible Points Remaining. You get more points for a correct pick the further you have a team going into the tournament. Therefore, if, say, you had West Virginia in the Sweet Sixteen, your PPR goes down because they’re already out of the tournament. And if you picked American U to win the whole thing, then your PPR will be REALLY low.

Well, at least ’Nove keeps my mojo going in the bracket!
If the Bills were a drug, I could only hope they were like speed so I could lose some weight as well.
The WVU and Wake losses hurt me though, that was two teams in the 16 for me, dangnabbit

Nobody cares who was number one halfway through a horse race my friend.
This is a marathon.

Oh don’t worry, I’m winning the whole thing. USC may have slipped me up, but I’ll make the comeback. Victory is mine!
I don't think your #1 after round 2
Just because you started out the gate fast, doesn’t mean you’ll win the race. But, gl anyway.

I think if Syracuse beats UNC I am pretty secure in the top 20.
If Syracuse gets to the Championship game, I am secure in the top 5.

This next round is make or break for me. I’ve got a bunch of big games.
The time has come for someone to put his foot down. And that foot is me.
Yea, the 3rd and 4th round will indeed seperate the men from the boys
I’m worried about Pitt. Every year they look like a final 4 team they get booted in the sweet 16 game. And taking into consideration there 1st 2 rounds and struggling to get past those 2 teams, this has me worred for the 3rd round.

60th out of 71.
I am ashamed.
I thought Ty Lawson’s foot injury was going to hamper UNC’s run. I was mistaken.
