Bus Cook In Buffalo

Pro Football Talk is reporting that Bus Cook, former agent for Brett Favre and current agent for Jay Cutler and Tony Scheffler, was reported to be in Buffalo today.  The interesting note is that he has no clients on the Bills.   Here's what PFT had to say:

Former Bills offensive lineman Ruben Brown disclosed during his WECK radio show on Monday that agent Bus Cook was in Buffalo.

Apparently, former Bills receiver Eric Moulds, who was represented by Cook during his playing career, mentioned to Brown that Cook was in town.

According to NFLPA records, Cook represents no players currently under contract with the Bills.  Thus, speculations is centering on a possible trade of Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler or tight end Tony Scheffler, both of whom are Cook clients.

Our buddy Brad Riter of WECK thinks that Scheffler is the more likely trade target.

But, hey, it’s more fun to ponder the possibility of a new quarterback heading to town.

Let the speculation begin.  Yeah Scheffler may be more likely, but let's not rule anything out yet.  If the Bills can sign T.O. what makes you think Dick Jauron and company would stop there?  I know Dick loves Trent which makes it extremely hard to believe that Dick Jauron would pursue another QB.  It hink Dick Jauron tied the rest of his coaching career in the NFL to Trent Edwards whether he likes it or not.

I would say, hey why not. Lets see what Denver wants for both.

I want both. Let’s go OBD. Make this happen.

Cutler

I can’t see his agent coming to OBD to discuss Sheffler. That could be done over the phone. I am not sure what I think about this.

Why not?

You could discuss Cutler over the phone too.

It's fun to speculate about Jay Cutler.

It makes no sense in so many other little ways, but it would really be too good to be true, in my opinion. If that makes any sense. I’m probably the only person that would do it.

Great plays don't make great players; great players make great plays.

by Fort Worth on Mar 16, 2009 9:01 PM EDT reply actions

I think its Sheffler he is here to talk about

But he wants to make OTHER teams think that we may be kicking the tires on Cutler. He gets a bump from that in negotiations with other teams, he might give a discount on Tony’s next contract, and we get Scheffler.

If the Bills were a drug, I could only hope they were like speed so I could lose some weight as well.

by WABillsfan on Mar 16, 2009 10:25 PM EDT up reply actions

Agreed, Sheffler's the target

I just can’t see the Bills going after Cutler, not with the reputation that Cook has in always wanting to set record breaking contracts.

No I think cook is in Buffalo for two reasons: 1. to talk to OBD about the Sheffler trade 2. To bring up some hype about Cutler.

To me it’s obvious that Cook wants Cutler to be his next record setter (just look at how he’s handling him and compare it to Favre), and I just don’t see the Bills being the team that signs any player to a record breaking contract. It’s just not how OBD opperates.

by CanadianBillsFan on Mar 17, 2009 4:24 AM EDT up reply actions

2. To bring up some hype about Cutler.

Exactly. It also helps for Buffalo too. If Buffalo can drive up the cost for say, the Jets?, without ever even making an offer for him, then good for Buffalo.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Cutler wants out of Denver so bad that he is making Cook go around and visit a bunch of teams over the next week just to drum up some controversy and make it look like more of an inevitability that he gets dealt.

I started coming to this site a few weeks ago and I love the inside information that some of you post. This Cutler stuff has been coming up a lot today, but I haven’t heard much from the ‘insiders’ on here. Makes me wonder if something is up with it.

it has to be Scheffler

All signs, and i mean all signs have indicated that Dick has tied himself to Edwards. Right or wrong, it is what it is and they’ll have their chance to succeed or go down together. I can’t see how Cutler’s involved in this at all (although who thought T.O. would ever be a Bill, so what do I know).

I love Cutler as a QB and would be estatic with him as a Bill. I just don’t see it as a possibility though.

Jauron is in Which gives the Bills a better chance to win this season?

Edwards who is the leader of the team, loved by the coaches, knows the players and the system. Or, Cutler who is physically more gifted but somewhat of a gunslinger (someone put up Jauron, he just fainted at the idea), cry baby prima dona who his last team was not very fond of him?

by Kurupt on Mar 16, 2009 11:00 PM EDT up reply actions

I'll take the level headed leader over the prima dona any day.

Cutler is an extremely gifted athelet, but so was JP. I think Jay needs to settle down and concentrate on his game instead of on these shananigans.

Meanwhile Trent IS the leader of this team, for good or bad, and I see absolutly no reason to replace him at this point.

by CanadianBillsFan on Mar 17, 2009 4:28 AM EDT up reply actions

The grass is always greener

If Trent played on the Broncos last year, he’d have numbers just as good or better. When your defense let’s everyone march willy nilly all over the field, you get in a lot of shootouts. The Bills were keeping things close and were operating under a first year offensive coordinator. It would be a grave mistake to give up on Edwards now, for this years chances and for the future.

People seem to be enamored of the cannon arm guys. Edwards’ arm is nowhere near a noodle! You think he looks like Pennington out there? He took the safe throws that were available, not because he can’t throw deep. With Owens out there, Trent WILL live up to your expectations. Get a grip, guys!

Edwards is a fine athlete, they all are.

by syrbillsfan on Mar 17, 2009 8:46 AM EDT up reply actions

Edwards’ arm is nowhere near a noodle!

I think Cutler’s arm strength is a tad overrated too. I think people confuse his desire to throw the ball down the field with arm strength. His arm doesn’t even compare to Elway despite what Cutler may think about himself.

by kaisertown on Mar 17, 2009 12:26 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't know.

I’m not meaning this to say that his comments about Elway were substantiated, but, I mean, have you seen this kid throw a slant? He’s got a rocket, even when not throwing deep. I wouldn’t say that Edwards and Cutler’s arms are close. Edwards’ is good, Cutler’s is a cannon IMO.

by nickfeely8 on Mar 17, 2009 4:51 PM EDT up reply actions

I wouldn’t say Edwards and Cutler are close either. Cutler has a great arm, but I just think it gets a little overstated. Cutler got drafted during that 2 or 3 year timespan when they actually clocked the QBs throws as one of the drills and Cutler was unimpressive, barely beating the middle of the pack and getting beaten out be players like John Beck. He has a quick release and gets effortless velocity, but it’s not like he has the strongest arm (or strongest 5 or even 10 arms) in the league.

by kaisertown on Mar 17, 2009 7:22 PM EDT up reply actions

Cutler.

Could we have a blockbuster trade brewing here? Cutler and Scheffler for Peters and Trent? I personally like Trent but he has one huge negative that Cutler doesn’t and that is playing in the cold weather. Peters doesn’t seem to want to be here and if we could trade him it might as well be for a franchise QB. If that trade actually happened two weeks after the TO. thing it would be like the world turned inside out for us die hard Bills fans. I mean what could possibly top that?

by bflobob8 on Mar 16, 2009 9:47 PM EDT reply actions

"I mean what could possibly top that?"

Nothing. And that’s just considering Cutler by himself.

First of all, it’s not happening. All these rumors and posts are just teasing me. Second, Trent actually played okay in the cold weather last year. Third, I’m not sure how much Denver would want Peters considering they have Clady. Finally, it sounds like McDaniels really wants “his own guy” under center.

Great plays don't make great players; great players make great plays.

by Fort Worth on Mar 16, 2009 9:53 PM EDT up reply actions

Bring on Captain Interseption!!!!

And then watch us all puke when he throws more INT’s than TD’s! Favre is a bigger prima dona than TO, so thanks but no thanks.

These guys never seem to net as high of a pick as we think they should, (unless they get traded to Dallas). Plus Scheffler is out of place in the Broncos new offense. Daniel Graham will be the man there. The Broncos will be happy to get a 5th for a guy they don’t even need.

The time has come for someone to put his foot down. And that foot is me.

by sireric on Mar 16, 2009 9:58 PM EDT up reply actions

I would honestly consider as high as a third

for Scheffler. He’s a proven commodity to some respect, and still has some unrealized potential. He was putting up great numbers before his injury last year, pro bowl numbers.

i don't understand

if they wanna trade for Scheffler really when the TE class in this year’s NFL Draft is so loaded. There’s 5-6 legit studs. But Scheffler is a proven commodity and not a bad run blocker

by MARVelous on Mar 16, 2009 10:19 PM EDT reply actions

Exactly, he could help us, they have Graham like sireric mentioned and WITH that deep TE pool in the draft

McDaniels may look to get a 3rd or a 4th out of us to use on someone like say Beckum later in the draft while moving a guy who is good friends with Cutler, and oh yeah, SHARES the same agent. I could see an anti-Bus Cook campaign being waged soon in Denver.

If the Bills were a drug, I could only hope they were like speed so I could lose some weight as well.

3rd or 4th? not worth it

Anything more than a 5th you pass on. Like you said, deep draft class at TE, see no reason to spend the same pic we would have used on a rookie TE in order to trae for an injury prone TE.

I don't have a problem trading a 4th we would have spent on a TE anyways...

Depending on the contract we would have to give to Scheffler, I think a 4th round pick is well worth dealing too.

by kaisertown on Mar 17, 2009 12:27 PM EDT up reply actions

We will know the truth tomorrow...

Because if they ARE discussing Cutler, then we’ll hear nothing from OBD. If we are not discussing Cutler, then they will have to come out and say something to the media to keep Trent’s trust. So I think tomorrow will be a telling day.

by CBATL32 on Mar 16, 2009 10:54 PM EDT reply actions

He’s also Calvin Johnson’s agent. Hello!

I’d offer a 4th for Scheffler, but not much more. Injury prone and in the final year of his contract means his price tag should be low. Throw in the whole “not wanted in Denver” anymore angle and it wouldn’t make much sense to offer anything more than this. If we could get him for a 4th or 5th(!), and a reasonable contract to sign him to the long term, I’d be pretty happy.

It’s gotta be for Scheffler right? The Cutler for Edward’s swap doesn’t make much sense to me, and I’m totally fine with Edwards leading this team. With Scheffler our offense would be stacked?
