Source: Bills' Edwards "staying put"
Sal Capaccio, the man who broke the T.O.-to-Buffalo story, is reporting that Trent Edwards was, is and will remain the starting quarterback of the Buffalo Bills.
On the other hand, the door is left completely wide open in regards to Broncos TE Tony Scheffler.

I don’t think it was as obvious as you say it is.

really? I put that in the very much overblown category and while i’m sure they did some sort of due diligence on the issue – it just wasn’t going to happen.
remember – continuity, continuity, continuity – the reason DJ is here and also the reason why Edwards is our starting QB
but I also was certain we’d get Birk – so……..
I know you. You know you. And I know you know that I know you.
DJ and Trent go together like......

Kurt Russell reminds of when:
I was in Wilmington, NC several years ago and Goldie Hawn passed by on the street. Very unexpected.

Yup, Peanut Butter Jelly Time!

If the Bills were a drug, I could only hope they were like speed so I could lose some weight as well.

The "My Comments" section
seems to leave the door open. Just by a little crack.
As Brian said, never say never.
Great plays don't make great players; great players make great plays.
it does, but that’s just an opinion.

Agreed.
A report is a report. Inside information is inside information.
I will believe the door is shut when I hear Dick Jauron say "the Buffalo Bills have no interest in Jay Cutler."
I understand that I may have to wait a while for that one.
Great plays don't make great players; great players make great plays.

You’re right, MattRichWarren. Never say never, even when they say so!

All I can say is
that I hope Geronimo is right and that DJ has spoken with Trent. We do not need a Broncos part II scenario here.

I'll be the first to admit
reading too much into Geronimo’s comments. But at least this means the front office is still active and trying to exhaust all their possibilities before the draft.
This may not involve moving Edwards, but hopefully this means they have a few more cards up their sleeves.
So glad to see this post
Cutler would have given this organization no greater guarantee than Edwards does. Don’t pick from another tree when you have a ripe apple in hand.

Thank God the Bills
nipped it in the bud.
Why do you have to 'put your two cents in'... but it's only a 'penny for your thoughts'? Where's that extra penny going to?
Bus Cook wasn’t even in Buffalo yesterday. Guess Ruben Brown needs to find new sources.

Has anyone heard Dick Jauron say
“the Buffalo Bills have no interest in Jay Cutler.”?
Great plays don't make great players; great players make great plays.
Well, if he follows the precident set after the T.O. signing,
we should hear something by OTAs.
Why do you have to 'put your two cents in'... but it's only a 'penny for your thoughts'? Where's that extra penny going to?
THAT
would immediately squash any speculation.

Happy for Trent
I honestly don’t think that Cutler is that much better, better yes, but not by as much as ppl think. Plus Trent is the offencive leader of that locker room, I wouldn’t want to mess with the chemistry that he developped with everyone else there.
Keep Trent

Cutler has a stronger arm. It ends there for me, when speaking about where he “trumps” Edwards. I don’t think Cutler will remain in Denver past this season – and I don’t think it’s wise to wish for him to remain a Bronco long-term.

I never said I wanted Cutler to remain a Bronco long-term.
It’s obviously no longer the right place for him, I just don’t think he’s going to be a Bill

I didn’t mean to lay claim to that on you. It was an additional thought on my behalf.

oh, ok my bad
but Cutler still needs to get out of that city. My bet is he lands in Tampa

What about this:
I have to wonder if Belichick saw this coming by discussing Cassel with McDaniels, and secretly wanted to create this windstorm?

That sucks
I was looking for the Bills to go after Scheffler. If they haven’t yet, they should lay an offer on the table, especially if its only a 4th or 5th round pick.
Yeah, this report of Capaccio has nothing to do with Scheffler. I actually mentioned that right in the FanShot.

Given Sheff’s injury history, is giving up a 4th or even 5th worth it, when the draft is deep?

pft
is now commenting on it as well with the link here
However, this information does nothing but dispel the internet rumors for now….if the Bills are indeed talking to the Broncos, Cook, about Cutler or Scheffler, it is in their best interest to shut down any conversations from getting leaked to anyone anywhere. All we can do is sit back and wait to see if anything does or doesn’t happen

yea
nothing official has been said yet and I think Sal’s piece, if anything, is just saying what most of us have been. It doesn’t seem that likely that a team which has invested in and supported Edwards from the get go would trade him but nothing is certain
"Gooood…..let the apathy take root…" - Ron from NM
or it
could just be that the Bills wanted put some water on this internet fire before it gets too out of control…the Bills may just be doing their due diligence and the last thing they need is the media getting in their way

As I figured....this whole story was actually a "Non-story"
plus it woulda been a stupid move………
which actually would have been on par with stuff this organization likes to do.

So Trent is “staying put”….that doesn’t mean Cutler wouldn’t be swapped for a draft pick, eh? What if Denver had no interest in Trent, but the Bills were highly interested in Cutler?
If there truly is any significant interest in Cutler, the Bills would be wise to say that Trent is staying put. What good comes from involving your QB in trade discussions? We’ve seen it blow up in Denver’s face already, no need to follow a similar path.

Scheffler and Edwards vs Cutler
Everyone is so caught up in Cutler, is the impact of Scheffler getting overlooked?? Having Scheffler and Trent Edwards on the Bills as opposed to having Cutler and no passing TE? That would still have a solid positive impact on the offense, with now 4 legit passing threats on the field at once. While Cutler would be great, getting that TE piece of the puzzle in place before the draft would also be a HUGE deal. Now the team can realistically focus on OL and defense in the draft. I think there would be ALOT of upside to passing on Cutler and grabbing Scheffler.
Yup, right on the head
Like you I have kept telling people the ONLY person who is actually UP for trading is Scheffler, and that is the only guy Cook can actually shop. Now, when he talks to team about Tony, if Cutler comes up, thats fine, but Tony is the only Bronco on the move right now. I think we get him for a 4th or a 5th since he is not in McDaniel’s plans (they have Graham and they just signed Jeb Putzier, which is like signing Pee Wee Herman, but its still a body).
If the Bills were a drug, I could only hope they were like speed so I could lose some weight as well.
