Peters for Peppers

well it sounds like J.P. is looking for a little too much money and we do not need another hold out this year.  Here's an inlikely proposition, Jason Peters for Julius Peppers straight up.  one of the top Tackles for one of the Top DEs in the game. Peter's is great and it will leave the entire left side missing but we have just solidified our defense and got rid of a player who doesn't want to be here. Does Peppers, probably not, but we all know he wants out of Carolina and hopefully N.E. is bluffing because Buffalo doesnt need him playing for the Pats either. so the second part of this equation is make another move for a starting Guard and draft a Tackle with the first pick.  Right now we have no depth on either line, but putting the deffense first and rebuilding the o-line could work.  Now i know the chances of this happening is roughly 0.00% happening so 1 more option would be trade Peters for at least a 1st rounder.  Philly, Cincy and other need a good tackle, well we need a lot more than that, so again get rid of a guy who doesnt want to be here and draft two players OT, DE or OLB in the first 32 picks.

My opinion Buffalo has done a C- effort this offseason for getting players we needed. Marketing A++++, but false hopes wear off with every loss.  we need starters on both lines and we got 1 out of 4 positions (C,G,DE,DT) not to mention we have 1 backup for offense, that doesnt sound like a smart decision.  Now i back Buffalo and Ralph with their decisions, but i would have loved to see some linemen come in this year if they truely believe T.O. will bring the playoffs back to Buffalo.

like always Go BILLS!!

The value is equal, but so is the money. We have more money currently tied up in our DE position than we do on the OL. That’s where a proposal like this makes zero sense.

My assumption is that Kelsay would get cut free

if we were to land Peppers

Still, I am not willing to let Peters go so easily. It’s so difficult to find a Probowl LT that unless we trade for a windfall of picks, I prefer to resign him.

Not advocating the trade, but to be devil's advocate,

It is equally as difficult to find a Pro Bowl-level DE.

It's harder to win

without a great LT and a team can survive quite well without the superstar DE

And your proof of that is?

Looking at the top teams in the league, I would say that more of them have a dominant pass rush than they do top LT.

Kaiser, I must admit that I am starting to change my position on Peters. I do however still think that a top LT is the second biggest asset on a team after the QB. Especially when you have Evans/Owens to feed, you certainly need to give your QB some time to throw.

Besides why would carolina want to trade?

Unless Philly sent their #21 + 28 to us in exchange for Peters, then we send the #28 & our 5th rd pick to Carolina for Peppers.

We could then trade down to 17/18 & get Oher and then take Pettigrew at #21 & Mack/Unger/Robinson at 43
I would be cool with that!

Did I miss something?

I thought we had two starting DTs and a rotational guy.

Trading Peters for Peppers creates a hole. Stop adding holes to this team. Plug some first.

I should have been more clear...

pastj12345 thinks we have a need at DT

we need starters on both lines and we got 1 out of 4 positions (C,G,DE,DT)

I thought we had a solid DT rotation.

I was under the impression

McCargo was not in good favor with the coaching staff and was thought to be heading out of town…?

by BFFL on Mar 18, 2009 9:50 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Now D Line Coach Bob Sanders has had him in every day.

We have two starters and a third rotational guy without McCargo. I can see a developmental DT coming in here but not a huge gaping hole that needs to be addressed early in the draft.

To Clarify...

McCargo has supposedly been busting his hump this offseason. We’ll have to see how it all shakes out.

Hopefully he shows everyone why he was a first round pic

But he’s got a lot of work to do before he can do that

by CanadianBillsFan on Mar 19, 2009 2:12 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

didnt we hear the same thing last year?

I could be mistaken, but wasn’t everyone talking about how he was busting his hump last off season too?

I don't remember that.

I remember Rumblers talking about how he could have a breakout year.

Yeah, I don’t remember it either. He didn’t work out in Buffalo last offseason and I remember all the talk surrounding a healthy, breakout season.

We did hear about how he trained with Coy Wire and that crazy routine where he had him running up streams and stuff like that, but it was only for like a week and a half.

thats what it was!

ok, now im remembering. Thats right, he was supposedly doing some crazy outdoors stuff with Wire.

Only a week and a half? What a lazy guy….

so you are saying there is no hole at DE? I would love for this schmuck to stay on our team, but it doesnt sound like he wants to stay here unless he’s one of the highest paid takles. i understand it make a hole @ another spot, but they need to also have a starting Guard in another trade. i said this is unlikely, but dont think by losing peters we hurt our offense anymore than him holding out, us not having a starting Guard and a Center that has started 8 games.

oh and the two DT thing is a joke, we rotate 3 and if we dont have a third man we get tired, get blown up on 3rd and short and dont get off the field

i do agree with Brian, too Much $$ is stuck at DE right now, but i dont care where the money is allocated if it works for us to have a dominant Deffense and a slightly above average offense (Steelers).

I mentioned before and I’ll repeat it here – everything I’ve heard points to Peters NOT holding out again, whether or not he has another deal.

wtf would Carolina do with Peters?

Did you forget they spent a ton of money to re-up their own left tackle, Jordan Gross? Why would they trade one of the best defensive players in the league for a guy who is just as good as the guy they already have (and wants a huge raise)?

by Hybrid1486 on Mar 18, 2009 7:53 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

You also didn’t mention how their guy, Jordan Gross, just signed a 6-year, $60M extension. Oh, and they drafted Jeff Otah last year.

by Brian Galliford on Mar 18, 2009 7:55 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, this makes zero sense for Carolina. They have an offensive line so good that they let Geoff Hangartner sign with us because they have no room for him to start. Gross and Otah are one of the better pair of OTs in the league, why would Carolina have any interest in Peters?

not to mention...

peppers wants to play OLB in A 3-4 defense

Peter piper picked a peck of pickled pepper but which peck of pickled pepper did peter piper pick?

by Zumone on Mar 18, 2009 10:15 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Peter piper pouted because he didn't feel he was paid enough and refused to pick any peppers.

Why do you have to 'put your two cents in'... but it's only a 'penny for your thoughts'? Where's that extra penny going to?

by Joe P. on Mar 18, 2009 11:27 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

And didn't Peppers say he wanted to be a 3-4 LB?

He wont sign the franchise tag of the Panthers because he wants to be trade to a 3-4, what makes you think he’d accept playing 4-3 here?

by CanadianBillsFan on Mar 18, 2009 11:33 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Again

Peppers wants to play in a 3-4 and expects to become the highest paid player in the NFL or close to it. He will cost more than Peters. I would rather overpay for a young Pro Bowl LT than an aging Pro Bowl DE or in his preference OLB

Peters for Peppers?

I would say that was a Millen trade, but, it didn’t include a WR.

buffalo needs to sign players who could make an impact on our team. i mean, come on, pat thomas?

by jzoom45 on Mar 19, 2009 10:32 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Let’s not judge the guy before he’s even played a game. And for all we know, he’s not going to be the starter, I mean theres still the draft that has to happen. I’ll admit it’s not an attractive signing, but lets let this play out before we criticize it.

by CanadianBillsFan on Mar 19, 2009 11:11 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

True, but you need 53 guys and you need them to all play a role. Should Patriot fans be upset because their team signed Al Johnson? Go ahead and be mad if Buffalo doesn’t make any notable offseason moves, but we signed a solid starter in Geoff Hangartner and Terrell freakin’ Owens. Considering the players Buffalo lost vs. the ones they gained, how many teams have had a better offseason than Buffalo?

by kaisertown on Mar 20, 2009 1:01 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Panthers already have two great tackles!

Jordan Gross, Pro Bowler
Jeff Otah, rookie last year who played exceptionally well! Probably better than Peters.

How else can you explain DeAngelo Williams and Stewart running through defenses like “swiss cheese”.

Peters would be making too much sitting on the bench, watching the out of town scoreboard.

Never happen!
