Official Bills Statement Regarding Toronto Series

"We are aware that there is interest in expanding the Bills in Toronto Series by an additional regular season game in the future. We're also aware that our hosts have conducted a survey as part of their internal process of evaluating whether to propose an expansion of the series. We have an agreement to play one regular season game for the next four seasons. We have no agreement, nor has there ever been one, to play an additional regular season game in Toronto. Any such future agreement would require consultation and the approvals of Erie County, Empire State Development Corporation and the NFL owners."

BuffaloBills.com

I'm sure everyone on here checks the official site, but I wanted to put this up so we all can breathe a collective sigh of relief.

Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

GOOD!!!

One game in Toronto is fine for now. It might one day go to two games, which I’m not entierly opposed to, but until this agreement is completed and they can see if it was sucess or not, then it should stay to one game.

Whoops

Somebody at the agency who runs the survey or at the team is probably losing their job right about now.

by BillsNYC on Mar 23, 2009 7:50 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

The team (Bills) has nothing to do with this.

They can’t control how Rogers Communications runs their business. And I don’t think Rogers Communications cares about what US Bills fans think really.

I have an idea!

Someone tell the league office that 3 games would make more money than 2 games. I am BRILLIANT!

There ya go

What about 8 games, welcome to Toronto Bills. lmfao

What does the league office have to do with anything?

You know what? I did. And either you’re joking and I missed the punchline, or you’re not aware of the process involved in this.

Buffalo negotiates the deal with Rogers. Currently, it’s a one-regular-season-game-per-year deal, and nothing more. The NFL can’t force the Bills to negotiate with Rogers for more games. They can only approve (or reject) what’s already been negotiated. Their role is significant, but ultimately not influential, in this Toronto thing.

We’re safe for now, but after 2012? I can’t see Erie County or the Empire State Development throwing their support for an extra T.O. game without anything in return. The owners, however, would approve it in a nanosecond. Will Ralph even be around then?

I thought it would be obvious…but I like the idea of doing one for the British Isle. In fact, you can “Buffalo Billsify” practically any state or country. Although Chile would be hard, unless our team was the Buffalo Stick Insects.

Dont let it happen!!

I’m not particularly happy as a die hard Bills fan to see one of our games played in a dome giving away our home field advantage but I don’t make the decisions at OBD. Two games in Toronto, 25% of our home games, is just flat out ridiculous. Our fans and our cold weather give us the much needed edge over our opponents and to give that away by playing in a dome is foolish. I just hope the people at OBD make the right decision and don’t take our beloved Bills away for 2 out of our 8 home games.

Call me paranoid (any some of you will)

be I don’t see this as a mistake make by the Rogers staff. This was a calculated move to test public response both here in WNY and in Canada. Don’t think for a minute this idea is dead!

Interesting take on it.

I agree with you. Rogers doesn’t care what American fans they piss off irritate. In fact it’s best to figure out who it will irritate and how much.

Insightful, not paranoid

You are correct. I think that they’re floating the idea early so people get used to it. Provided both the Bills and TO (that is Toronto) deliver as expected, they will be pushing for those 2 games in their negotiations post 2012. For the the Toronto area, two games solidifies Buffalo as the home team and energizes the fan base more than could be accomplished by just one game. Although I don’t like it, it makes sense and you can see the groundwork for it being laid.

Testing the waters. The lake is cold, but not unnavigable. I see no way that organization would flub this badly, knowing their partnership with the Bills could have the potential to become tenuous, as a result.

I think you're right, Joe

When this first happened last year, I thought, “Goodbye Bills,” That was just the first step. It will continue.
Hope I’m wrong but one has to be naive to think the Bills will be here 7-8 years from now.
