Report: Bills/Pats slated for Week 1 MNF action
A report from the Boston Herald indicates that the Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots will headline ESPN's Monday Night Football in Week 1 of the 2009 NFL regular season.
Buffalo's signing of enigmatic WR Terrell Owens and the return of QB Tom Brady in New England were likely the two headline-making deciding factors, if the report is accurate. The matchup also pits two of the old AFL's original franchises against each other; as this is the 50th Anniversary of the AFL's inception, that likely was a huge draw as well. As a result, it's being reported that both the Bills and Patriots will don throwback uniforms for the game (Mike Florio).
The NFL confirmed the report Monday afternoon, announcing that the Bills would make the trip to New England for the affair on September 14, 2009. The game will air on ESPN at 7:00PM ET.

i hate the idea of starting the season 0-1 but it sure will be fun to watch. I actually hope the game is in NE. Cuz then later in the season when we hopefully improve, I’d like to take our shot at the Pats in the middle or late part of the season when we have had time to gel. Beating the Pats is the only sign I look for to show that Dick Jauron and Russ Brandon’s plans have finally worked
MARVelous - "I went from America's team to North America's Team" Terrell Owens
I’d rather it be in NE early too. I don’t know that the team will be better late in the season. Injuries and well, that whole collapse last season leave me skeptical. Couple that with the fact that NE are “slow” starters (who isn’t!) and I like their chances on enemy soil early on.

I would rather face New England in Week 1
Isn’t that the last time we beat them? That was at home, but I think NE is easier to beat earlier in the year. It might give us more time to gel, but it also gives them more time. Which do you think is more productive? I’ll take my chances and say more time gives them more benefit. If we can beat them in that first week, it should give us good hope for the rest of the season. Also, it will be Brady’s first live game back. That has to mean something. If they’re going to be vulnerable, it will be in that first week.
Exactly
McNabb is a good barometer for how a QB fares in his first full game back from injury, in 2007 in his first full game back he had the following stat line:
15 of 33 throwing the ball for 184 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT read it here
Figuring that since Tom boy has better targets than McNabb has, lets say he chucks the rock for 25 of 37 for 250 and 2 TDs and an INT. Those are numbers we can compete against, unlike say the last time we played him in 2007 when he rolled up this stat line:
33 of 41 throwing the ball for 383 yards and 5 TDs and no picks, see it here
Needless to say, I too want Brady in week 1 coming back from a knee injury just recently repaired, thank you very much!
If the Bills were a drug, I could only hope they were like speed so I could lose some weight as well.
I hope he’s still recovering at that point! haha

Well, like I alluded too with McNabb, who had NO complications stemming from his surgery
Brady will probably be really really rusty and not as athletic as he was, and he was underrated in that category for that matter pre-injury. I think he will play OK, but look a bit like Manning was this past fall in that first game. If thats what we see from Brady we only need to stop their running game to stay with them. Hope ML appeals the suspension and can play this game.
If the Bills were a drug, I could only hope they were like speed so I could lose some weight as well.
This is going to be a HUGE game!!!
Funny how the signing of one little wide receiver can catapolt a team into the national conscience seemingly over night. That would be a he** of a game and I really hope that it’s played in Buffalo.

I wish the Bills FO
was headed by a football executive rather than an advertising executive. The Bills FO has made a brilliant marketing move, with the signing of T.O., to have the team in the lime light from now through the first four weeks of the season. But after our predictable 0 and 4 start, the only news coming out of OBD will be Owens blowing up or Jauron being fired before week 8. As of this date, the Bills roster has been weakened while our division foes have improved their rosters. But the FO will have us in the lime light, unfortunately it will be an embarrassing lime light for Bills Fans and the City of Buffalo.

If our “advertising executive” made the football decisions, OK. He doesn’t.
I also don’t see how our team has been “weakened”. We added T.O. and got rid of Royal and Dockery, two of our biggest liabilities. The Jets lost a Hall of Fame QB and have a new coach, the Dolphins added….. ?, the Pats added Galloway and Taylor which were good additions on their part but I don’t think those are going to make or break our games vs. them.

The Bills have a unique front office structure where they make football decisions collectively.
Russ Brandon isn’t the guy that says “we are signing this guy, end of story.” It’s through consensus-building. He has the title G.M. but the buck does not stop with him. He only added that G.M. title recently. Originally he was the C.O.O.
Before I even talk about the free agents you mentioned, we have plenty of time to further address these holes on our roster.
For Dockery, we were paying him top 5 money to be a bottom ten OG. Maybe a player that is better than him isn’t on the roster now. Crowell is better than Thomas in my book but that doesn’t mean he should be back. Plus nobody has seen him run or play since his surgery. He’s an awfully big question mark. I don’t know if paying three starting CBs while developing Corner and Youboty is the best use of our money. McGee, McKelvin, and Greer would all demand that money. It’s not always about who is better.

I wouldn’t say our roster has been weakened. I would say it hasn’t gotten significantly better, if at all. However, the other 3 division foes seem to have done a good job improving, so our lack of significant improvement could be a problem…
~K
"I’m Kurupt with Buffalo Rumblings. I am worth hundreds!"
but
our roster is so young, with our guys getting better, mostly Trent Edwards, is where our roster improves….not really with FA additions
MARVelous - "I went from America's team to North America's Team" Terrell Owens
We’ve been hearing about young guys improving for years. Will we ever see significant improvement out of more than a small handful of guys? You can’t just rely on young guys improving when you went winless in the division and were one of the worst teams in the league over the final two months of the season. The signing of TO was a good start, but we’ve still got some work to do. The young guys improving greatly would be excellent, but it’s worrisome that that’s what we’re hoping for in order to really turn it around….
Man, do we need Edwards to take a big step forward this year. If he plays mediocre football again, this team is screwed.

yeah
but that is what we are banking on in reality is what I’m saying. Obviously most notably Trent Edwards being the most important young guy to improve. But if our team is to ever succeed in our division, our young guys that we drafted have to develop into studs. So that means Poz, Ellis, Fine, McKelvin, Corner, Bell, Hardy, etc. You can’t add enough guys in FA or the draft unless you get lucky or spend a boat load that will signifcantly improve your team…..but ultimately #5 improving to a top 10 QB will make everyone else better

Bills signings: QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, C Geoff Hangartner, CB Drayton Florence, WR Terrell Owens, LB Pat Thomas

Dolphins signings: S Gibril Wilson, OG Joe Berger, C Jake Grove, CB Eric Green
Dolphins losses: S Renaldo Hill, CB Andre Goodman, C Samson Satele

Jets losses: QB Brett Favre, WR Laveranues Coles, DT C.J. Mosley, CB Hank Poteat, DE David Bowens, LB Eric Barton, K Mike Nugent, TE Chris Baker

Patriots losses: WR Jabar Gaffney, LS Lonnie Paxton, RB LaMont Jordan, LB Mike Vrabel, QB Matt Cassel, LB Larry Izzo, FB Heath Evans
Honestly, I think every team has done good things, even though the Jets’ QB situation is ridiculous right now. I don’t buy the “we haven’t gotten significantly better” line. We’ve gotten more explosive. But everything is on paper. It’s all on Edwards – if he performs, we can compete with all three of these teams. That’s the long and short of it.

I don’t know if it matters, I’ve never seen him play before, but the Bills wanted to sign him as well, but the Dolphins should have Cameron Wake added to their signed list.
Mark my words
Watch out for Cameron Wake, he had 39 sacks in two season in the CFL as a DE. He is the perfect 3-4 OLB-DE, comparable to Terell Suggs in ability, versatility and talent, this kid is going to be big for the ’phins he they give him the chance.

Honestly, I see it as a push.
I kinda like the idea of our pick of C/G’s in the 2nd round of the draft over Dockery. OLB, it’s the exact same situation as last year, because Crowell didn’t play, but we now have another LB to compete with Ellison. At CB, we lost a starter in Greer, but have replaced the starter spot with McKelvin, who should steadily improve as a playmaker, and replaced McKelvin’s spot with Florence, a seasoned veteran who isn’t that far removed from some solid seasons with the Chargers.
No, a GM's job is to improve his team through the draft and fill in the blanks with FA
You build a good team through the draft, not FA. Otherwise the Redskins would win the superbowl every year.

Time and time again,
winning teams are not built through Free Agency. What signings in free agency would have drastically improved the roster? What OLB was such a huge improvement? What TE was a huge improvement? What OG was a huge improvement? They couldn’t fabricate players.

It means that you fill the important positions of need threw the draft, like our wholes at LB and TE. then you let your young guys come up and fill other spots, like McKelvin. And then you sign players for depth purposes, like Pat Thomas. You can’t fill every open spot with a FA, and you shouldn’t. To me the only goof FA signing are the ones that don’t set your team back, like Hangartner.
I think that OBD has been doing a good job of signing for now, while planning for the future. We can’t sign every superstar Fa on the market. Besides the vast majority of FA superstars don’t play nearly as well on their new teams as they did on their original ones, and I’m quite confident that Haynsworth will prove my point this year.
by CanadianBillsFan on Mar 23, 2009 4:07 PM EDT up reply actions
Last year did we not have more 2008 FA or traded players starting for us than players we got in last years draft? Certainly the draft is crucial in building a team. But don’t minimize Free Agency or trades. If i’m not mistaken our best D-Lineman was not drafted by us.If i look at NE, Moss and Welker were not drafted by NE. Same with the Jets and Miami. By the way if you recall we were swept by all those teams. The GM job is to hire players that improve our roster by the draft, free agency or trades. So far this season he has made one improvement and three disimprovements to our roster. That’s not acceptable.
I'll ask again....
What signings in free agency would have drastically improved the roster? What OLB was such a huge improvement? What TE was a huge improvement? What OG was a huge improvement? They couldn’t fabricate players.

I would not have let Dockery, Crowell and Greer get away and replace them with three backups. Not to mention creating three more holes. I would have signed Jason Brown along with Hangartner. I would have traded for Winslow. Not to mention Canty also. Now when I go into the draft I have a better nucleus to start with. But of course, since the GM has no accountability for the teams performance, just let Jauron get fired, I’ll show Wilson how much money I saved him and get a nice pat on the head.
The Bills probably didn't know Winslow was on the trading block to begin with.
We forced Dockery to walk. He was not good last year. Keeping a not good player is how to build a successful team?
We replaced Greer with McKelvin. We replaced McKelvin’s role on the team with a backup.
Jason Brown is making a heck of a lot of money this year. There’s a reason only one team was bidding for him and that was because his price was too high.
I appreciate what you’re saying about filling holes via free agency. I don’t think the players were there. You still only mention one replacement player. It’s not that you are wrong for wanting to do it but there are lots of ways to improve your team. I don’t think looking at the free agent signings is the best way to assess that.
As for your last little comment, I think it’s not about saving Wilson money. You make more money when you win. If you get a home playoff game you make lots of money. The goal, therefore, is not to save money but to make the playoffs. That will get you your “nice pat on the head.”

If your a GM you better know whats happening within the league and your competion. Not knowing a player is available who can fill a big void on your roster is for poor GM’s. You improve your team one player one position at a time. Who do we have on the roster now better than Dockery? We now have created a major hole. It’s not rocket science to know that you build your team from the line out. I would have brought in people to challenge Dockery. If they beat him out so be it. But now I have a new hole to fill. Jason Brown is worth the money. Especially in our situation with no crediable center and facing monster NT’s in our division. Jason would have filled that hole. But instead we get a backup and hope a stong center falls to us in the draft. Not smart if you want to build a good O-Line and competitive team. Crowell is better than Ellison and Thomas. He’s a starter not a back up. Not smart if you want to improve your LB cor and defense overall. Greer is better than Florance. Once again a step backward. Not smart if you want good DB debth. But best of all I now go into the draft with fewers hole to fill. I’m freer to trade or make deals. Once again you improve your team by bring in people to challenge your current roster. You don’t get rid of starters and hope and pray someone new will step up.
The Browns and Bucs don’t have to tell anyone about trading Winslow, not that I would even want him on the team. He’s a me-first guy. They could have known about him being on the block or not and it wouldn’t have mattered.
Dockery was owed a huge roster bonus so they cut him. He wasn’t worth what they were paying him and certainly not a huge roster bonus so they got rid of him. The LG position will be as good in 09 than 08.
Hangartner is a credible Center. That’s why we signed him.
By your logic we are signing tons of guys and giving them lots of signing bonuses only to cut them after paying those signing bonuses and receiving no play in return. It doesn’t make business sense. This isn’t Madden where the money is fake. We’re talking millions of dollars in wasted money.
I liked Crowell too. The coaches didn’t love him so he’s not here. You can argue with them all you want.
They had Greer’s replacement in McKelvin so what you need to argue is that McKelvin last year is better than Florence will be this year and I don’t know if that is a legitamate argument. Drayton Florence, terrible last year, was excellent as a nickel corner in San Diego.

LG: I think, as of today, we are slightly worse with Chambers instead of Dockery. And that’s mostly because Chambers doesn’t have a track record to look at. Dockery was bad last year, and with that ‘elephant in the room’ contract he had, I’m not saying we’re worse off without him.
OLB: Improved? No. Regressed? No. Stayed the same? Thus far, yes. Therefore, no significant improvement (or regression) here. I don’t count Crowell in this at all.
CB: Honestly, I liked Greer, but I don’t think we’re any worse without him. We played without him for half the season last year, and Leo looked good. With another offseason to prepare and mentally get himself ready for a full-time starter’s role, I think he’ll be better than Greer was at any point in his Bills career this season. Depth may be a bigger question mark, since I’d rather have McGee, Leo and Greer as our top 3 (with Youboty #4) over McGee, Leo and Florence.
~K
"I’m Kurupt with Buffalo Rumblings. I am worth hundreds!"
K is right
Crowell didn’t play at all last year, so adding Thomas, while not a headliner of a signing, is more then we had last year.
Also the job of the GM is to improve the team. Period. I think we can all agree that the Colts are a pretty good team, look at how many free agents they have signed the last 5 years.
The time has come for someone to put his foot down. And that foot is me.
So what if Crowell didn’t play last year. The point is he’s better than Ellison and Thomas. And will play this year.Instead of starting for us he will start for Tampa. We let a good player get away and replaced him with a back up. Now we have another hole to fill.
Don't know if he is better after injury
No one knows, and this is all pre-draft, “make the team better” speculation. Colts comparison is good, and I know it is one our staff looks at. Yu don’t have to sign a bunch of free agents to get better. If the QB gets it, the line plays well and there are enough weapons, you’re offense can be top 15. If your defense can play well, and get after the QB better, you’ll have a slightly better defense that was survicable, and might get better in turnover ratio. With that said you could be looking at improvement, but if we fail in the draft, and find no impact players and Edwards regresses, then we’re 4-12, the coach is fired and welcome to a top 5 pick next year…

Initially I thought for sure it’d be in Foxboro, but on further thought, given the atmosphere at the Ralph the last two years on MNF and the chance that it’d be a better game with the Pats on the road I think it’ll be a home game.
I'm guessing it'd be at the Ralph too, but not for that reason....
If the Pats are on the road in week 1, they can play up Brady’s return to the league. When they have a home game in week 2, they can play up Brady’s return to Foxboro. The league can promote TWO games more than just Brady’s home return in week 1….

Ok. I live in Rhode Island at the moment so it’s actually easier to see the Pats-Bills game in Foxboro (god Gillette Stadium sucks, no character) than in Buffalo (though for the extra 6 hours of driving each way, it might still be worth it). If this Monday Night game happens, I swear to you all, I’ll kick in money to have Bills fans shipped in, because if I have to endure a drubbing like that again and listen to those self-righteous, band-wagon crybabies go on and on about how Tom Brady could fly to the moon on the power of dreams, I’m gonna use my Lee Evans throwback jersey to garrot as many of them to death as I can.
I see like 10 Bills fans when I’m there, and the madness needs to end. We just look at each other like we know it’s gonna be a rout, but still pay the $150 ticket and $50 parking fees to watch our dreams shattered.
MNF
Is that how the normal rotation goes? Or can it be the same order in the following year? After Marshawn’s expected 2-4 game suspension is issued, can he appeal and play in the first, pivotal AFC East game against the beloved Pats?
Either way the game should have a lot of fireworks, though it seems like everyone seems to have us penciled penned in for a lose, it will be nice to see the Bills compete, as I think we will match up well against the Pats and the game should be close.
I don't know what you are asking....

think of the repurcussions of victory
If the Buffalo Bills and Terrell Owens somehow pull out a victory on MNF in week 1 and in Foxboro just imagine how high the Buffalo Bills will rise in terms of NFL story of the year. Everyone will be talking about how TO is going to take us into the playoffs and how Trent is taking the next step and how cagey Dick Jauron is scrapping his way to the playoffs and a job extension. The media attention from such a win alone could be enough to make Buffalo relevant enough to continue raising awareness about our struggle to stay in Buffalo and could help us attract free agents.
"Gooood…..let the apathy take root…" - Ron from NM
good thinking – but the start from last year followed by the epic collapse might make people be a little cautious.
i’d just like to have the W and have it against the Pats would be very welcome start to the season

Just like...
the media attention last year we got after we went 5-1 helped us out?
Seriously. I’m kinda scared. No team that starts well ends well. It’s a long rough season, and nobody can sustain a high level of play for that long.
On a serious note, though, I’m scared about next season. It’s not that I don’t see the good in our beloved hometown team, but I’m genuinely scared that a 4-12 season is not out of the question. That really never occurred to me last year, but it does this year.
We’ve been hearing about young guys improving for years. Will we ever see significant improvement out of more than a small handful of guys?
Problem with this is when we do finally develop our homegrown talent, we don’t pony up the cash to keep them.
Where else would you rather be...

It’s kind of a Catch-22, but the Steelers do it. They’re a small market team too (with admittedly much better resources). They raise up players and let them go once they feel they’ve gotten too expensive (see Porter, Joey). The problem, I think, is that Pittsburgh has been doing it for a really long time. We mortgaged our future with Donahoe (ironically, from the aforementioned franchise) and we’re just starting to get back to form, I think. I wish we had more time. Or more accurately that we had been doing this kind of thing right along.
What if
The league were to tell the Bills that the game would be “home” for the opener only if it was played in Toronto?

Because the deal with Britain is with the entire NFL – the league can schedule any two teams over there each year. If the entire NFL were playing games in Toronto, then they’d have a say in that as well – beyond their “OK Buffalo, you’re playing [insert team] there this year.”

I don't think it will profit anymore than it already does
There already is a HUGE core of fans in Canada, so I don’t think that bringing games to a city that most canadians aren’t particularly fond of will raise the NFL’s popularity in Canada. I do think that it will bring more ppl from southern Ontario to Ralph Wilson Stadium, but as an overall picture with the rest of Canada, it wont do much.

I misremembered . When they originally started this thing that was the plan. Early game on NFLN and the late game on ESPN. But enough people complained that they changed that up and staggered the games and locations more. If the early game runs late then it gets moved over to the NFLN except in local markets.

Since both teams will be wearing 50th anniversary throwbacks, what exactly will we see on the Bills??? They’ll be wearing white jerseys, so will they be the unis from the inaugural season with the silver helmets, or will we see the white helmets with the standing buffalo and the jerseys from the 60’s/70’s?
I’d love to see the uniforms both teams wore 50 years ago. That makes the most sense!

Because when they first got the contract there was only one game. (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2040130) It wasn’t until later that year that they decided to go to two games. Originally the early game was going to be on the NFLN because it was their first year actually showing games. But because the NFLN wasn’t available everywhere the feedback was horrible and they quickly put both games on ESPN.

All we have to do is be able to attack on offense, and get a couple big plays and we’re in it. I just don’t want to see Jauron play “smarty ball” where he tries to just play keep away. This game will dictate alot of the hopefully new mindset of the coaching staff/
The Bills CAN win every game
Another Prediction
Bills – 31 Pats – 28
TO and Josh Reed catch TD passes, and Freddy scores from short. Brady outplays Edwards as usual but not by much…….you heard it here first.
Edwards’ delts are getting jacked – they may carry him over the Brady barrier for this matchup.

Frankly, the Pat’s have more stories announcers like Tony Cornhole will fall in love with:
- Brady comeback (obviously the big one)
- Brady/Moss reunion
- Brady’s union with Gisele Bündchen (who is at the game trying not to look ultra hot, but of course is unsuccessful)
- Moss is better than Owens (I’m not saying it, but someone probably will)
- Belicheat surviving departure of assistants
- Belicheat surviving departure of Pioli
- Belicheat surviving spygate (oldie but goodie)
- NE missing playoffs with 11-5 record
Excuse me while I clean the barf off of my keyboard…
Outside of Owens, Buffalo will have to earn any honorable mention with their play on the field. That’s OK, if the Bills win, the victory will be that much more sweeter.
"They're Killin' Me Whitey. They're Killin' Me" -- Lou Saban
KEEP THE FAITH
A victory would surely be made sour or a loss equally more devastating by Mike Tirico – who would point out the last time the Bills beat the Pats was in Buffalo on opening day 2003 and that the last time we beat them in Foxboro was 2000!
However, despite those facts and the beating our team/fans take from the national media (especially the last 10-15 years) there is no substitute for watching your team don those impressive blue and red (occasionally white) uniforms and go to battle for you each and every Sunday for the chance of NFL supremacy. And it’s that chance, that excitement, that fervor to be part of something that is greater than ourselves that keeps us coming back for more.
Bills Fans – There is always a Chance for greatness and surely our hearts/souls have bled from disappointed in the past but it’s a new season and there is still HOPE. Hope that our O-line can hold up and hope that our defense can get QB pressure/turnovers and most importantly, hope that Trent is a franchise quarterback. Granted we all would have liked to have the holes on our roster filled through free agency, but let’s not pass judgment on the One Bills Drive just yet until we see what the draft looks like and the improvement our young core of players may make over this offseason. Keep the faith fans, for there is young talent on the roster and if the stars align just right, not only will the popcorn ready, but it will be overflowing from the Ralph all season long!!!!

Blind Faith, you’re true to your moniker. And you are indeed correct, this is the time of year for hope. With a good draft that kernel of hope will grow. When we see Owens catching a TD pass in the preseason, hope will blossom. If the Bills win their week one match-up against our nemesis, hope will be uncontainable. We can worry about getting the inevitable kick in the teeth later, now is the time for hope. I’m so full of freakin’ hope, that I think that Fred Jackson will run all over the Patriots, making us temporary forget about Lynch’s [assumed] suspension.
"They're Killin' Me Whitey. They're Killin' Me" -- Lou Saban
Historically, this is true:
We can worry about getting the inevitable kick in the teeth later, now is the time for hope.
We all know that feeling and I’m guilty as any fan for conditioning myself for that inevitable mishap. Every time Marshawn plows forward for a first down or Trent completes a pass for > than 15 yards, or our defense somehow stops the opponent on third down, or McKelvin sees daylight and takes a kickoff to the house – I’m left there just screaming in my head " No flag – No flag, for god’s sake, please NO FLAG!
It’s that horrible feeling that no matter what the score, how much time is left, we find a way to blow it – It’s certainly a defense mechanism that we the fans have taken to protect our delicate souls, but I’m left wondering if that mentality (i.e. accepting mediocrity) has infected our locker room as well…
That said, now is the time for hope. Maybe now, we have a leader in the locker room (a coach, a player, a staff, somebody) who isn’t willing to accept that "The ball is a funny shape and sometimes it just doesn’t bounce your way" garbage. Maybe now, with Jauron’s head on the line or through Trent’s maturation process, or with the acquisition of #81, all of that can change. Throw in a good draft and more hope grows…
NJBill, you are correct – a victory over our nemesis in week one would go a long way and there is no doubt that Fast Freddie can carry the load!!! Let’s also hope that while there might not be “i” in t-e-a-m, there is one “TO” in every T-O-u-c-h-d-o-w-n, he scores!!!!
I like to think of Bills fans as not resigned to mediocrity, but all too familiar with it. Whenever we seem to turn a corner, we find out that we’re back to where we started—like a Twilight Zone episode. I think what sets us apart from other fans is that we don’t let the disappointment we feel affect our loyalty, or as you put it in your previous post…hope. I believe that this is possible because we share some genetic defect. Most normal logical people would have given up on the Bills long ago.
Because of where I live, I have a perfect out. Both the Giants and Devils won their respective championships not too long ago and are examples of solid organizations. It is relatively easy for me to attend the local games, but I will vomit blood before I support them over my hometown Bills and Sabres. When the Vince Lombardi (a NJ native) trophy and Stanley Cup (definitely not this year) are finally brought to Buffalo, the decades of pain will be worth it. In the meantime, we must relish the minor victories along the way, such as beating the Patriots in NE on MNF.
Let’s also hope that while there might not be "i" in t-e-a-m, there is one "TO" in every T-O-u-c-h-d-o-w-n, he scores!!!!
Someone better put this on a sign and bring it to every game…not only is it very clever, it’s true.

If it was week 5, wouldn’t it still be Brady this and Brady that?

"I’m Kurupt with Buffalo Rumblings. I am worth hundreds!"
It'll be all Brady and Owens all the time, till they manage to injury each other in a freak narcissistic mirror watching accident.
If the Bills were a drug, I could only hope they were like speed so I could lose some weight as well.
Sorry guys looking for the original uniform...
We’re using the 1965 AFL Championship as our Legacy Uni. Sorry Kurupt.

Understandable though to go with the Championship Unis
Good memories for many older Bills fans…

I'd rather see the AFL champ uniforms
We already use these ones as our third unis

Yeah...
The ones I want to see are the old grey helmets and blue uniforms…. just one time :-)
I like the electric blues but to see the original ones one time would be nice.

Now what’s a deffencive halfback?
by CanadianBillsFan on Mar 25, 2009 12:23 AM EDT up reply actions
Here's what I found
The halfback in Canadian football, and most commonly the Canadian Football League, refers to the defensive back rather than the running back, as in American football. The defensive halfback lines up inside covering the slotback. They are usually slightly larger than the cornerback to assist the linebackers in stopping the run. They can also be seen backing off the line early, to counter the motion of a slotback, which is allowed before the snap in the CFL.

So apparently it’s a big CB or a fast LB to cover the slot and help the run. Nickelback I guess? It doesn’t exist per se in the NFL anymore but does in the CFL.

Wow a CFL position that I don't know about
I new the slotback is a leading position in the CFL, think college spread TE, but closer in play o a WR. But never herd of a Defencive Halfback, maybe because the CFL has gotten used to running a 4-3-5 deffence (4 on the d-line, 3 LB’s, 2-4 CB’s and 1-3 Safeties depending on the amount of CB’s).
