Q: My Chiefs need a new OC,OG, and probably a RT. Why not give LeCharles Bentley a look? He's still fairly young, and was dominant before that injury. From what I understand, he should be ready to play. Where is Bentley right now? Is his career over?
A: Talking to Bentley a couple of weeks ago, I got the feeling that the Bills are interested in him. The Chiefs might be, too. Obviously, his knee problems would be a concern. With the infection he suffered in the knee, he doesn't have full motion, but he is confident the knee is good enough to play. He's worth a look. Bentley does need to get in an offseason program as early as possible as long as he is healthy. He's all football. He's running a training academy trying to help young athletes learn football, particularly young offensive linemen. Because of the problems with his knee, he wasn't going to be involved in the first, second or third wave of free agency. Now, half the free-agent list is gone. It's time for the Bentleys of the world to get their test drives.

Interesting
I’ve got to be honest, I’d LOVE to see Bentley in a Bills uniform. But I don’t think we’re going to see another FA signing until after the draft. But I’d still like to see him as our new LG.

he's worth taking a flyer on
much better than the Preston option in my opinion. He really wouldn’t cost much at all and if he panned out, it would be well worth the minimal investment.
John I.
He's not going to play for the minimal investment though.
He has said that he’s only going to play if it’s a financially beneficial move for him to make. That means a guaranteed contract for more than the league minimum. (Something he has turned down in the past.)
Pass, pass, pass. Hasn’t played in years, has knees problems, and his only motivation is money.

But if there’s no market for him beyond a small contract….why not?

Because he's said that he's happy where he is
and isn’t just going to play for the minimum. He doesn’t HAVE to play football this year. As a matter of fact it doesn’t seem like he wants to.

I’m not worried about his knee problem, not problems. He ripped his acl one year, took him out of one season, then he was infect with two very bad staff infections. causing him to miss another season and a half. He still has a lot of talent and he knows it, thats why he wont take a small contract. I think he’s worth a shot, lets see what he wants money wise.
Oh and even if we sign him, I’d like to draft a c/g in the first 4 rounds. Never hurts to have depth.

I think he’s worth taking a shot at as well. If he’s healthy, he’s good. If not, then it wouldn’t be a huge loss if he doesn’t make the team.

I would give him a decent contract predicated on him getting bonuses throughout the season
That way, you can tie the bonuses to things like working out, being able to play x-number of snaps, staying healthy, etc. etc. And give him a decent amount of signing cash to coax him in.
If he is healthy, thats a steal for us, if he isn’t, we can cut him before any other bonuses need to be given out.
If the Bills were a drug, I could only hope they were like speed so I could lose some weight as well.
Even if we gave him a non-guaranteed contract...
We could cut him at any point…. I would be on board signing him with a CYA contract like that.
