Jarron Gilbert
This guy is a physical freak. I know I preach drafting football players and not athletes, but check this guy out. I think he is an intriguing prospect that could give us tons of flexibility if we can't get our DE in round 1. He is listed as a tweener for DE/DT, but for 288lbs and 37" arms, this guy has alot of potential that could help the bills out at both those positions.

He's probably better suited to be a 3-4 DE.
Not really the speed rusher you need in a 4-3.

I was thinking ....
he would fit perfectly into a 3rd and long rushing scheme. And provide some great special teams. But i would like it unless he was available in the 3rd.
How many years can we go without making the playoffs...eventually the odds go in your favor.........right?!?!?

I totally agree with Rudy. Gilbert would be a nice versatile player who could be a great run stuffer as a DE and provide a little more pressure than our DTs can, but he simply doesn’t do enough in our scheme to draft him where his value lies.
And I want to elaborate a little about players fitting or not fitting into our scheme. When I say someone doesn’t fit into our scheme, it doesn’t mean they would be a bad player here. It just means that he would be a better player somewhere else, so other teams will start thinking about drafting him well before Buffalo will consider it. So for Buffalo to draft a player like Gilbert or Tyson Jackson, they either have to pray that he slides and is available later than he should be or you draft them with players who would be better on your team still available.

We already have that in spencer johnson
and he is considered very athletic and quick for his size by NFL standards, so i don’t see a reason to draft a guy who fits in the mold of a current DT on our roster and wouldn’t be any type of an upgrade. Pat Kirwan just put this guy at 32 in his mock going to the Steelers, so i have to think he is valued much more as a DE in a 34 (as others have mentioned), but i’m sure could also play that tweener position in a 43 but we don’t need a guy like that.. i have to think he has much more value to a 34 team and that’s the type of scheme he would do best in.

Exactly….Both have their value here, but both are better fits elsewhere. I’d say Jackson and Gilbert look to be excellent fits for the 3-4. They could be good, quality 4-3 LDE’s as well, but what we need most is the pass rush threat. I don’t think that’s the type of player they are….
