Yet another Rumblings Authors Mock Draft

There are ten of us here that pretend to know what we're talking about in relation to Buffalo Bills discussions.  The ten of us, henceforth known as the Authors of Buffalo Rumblings (though that's not really accurate), have collaborated over the past few days to put together a mock draft that is easily the weirdest on the Internet.  It's possibly the most unrealistic as well.  But Bills news is slow these days - I imagine that's why everyone is freaking out about Terrell Owens, Jason Peters and other Bills not being at voluntary team workouts - and as such, we present our mock to you anyway.

If any of you feel the need to rip us mercilessly, mock us, or question our judgment, the blogger responsible for each pick is listed.

If any of this ever went down...

you know there would be some serious trading up to get the QBs, CBs and RBs that are falling.

We were talking on the emails that because we are so focused on the DEs that they all went high in this draft.

Not sure

I can easily see the QBs falling… they’re not sure things and we’ve seen QBs fall before that were supposed to be easy top 10 picks (Rodgers, Quinn).

With the RBs sharing the loads, and the ability to find good RBs later, that’s not really a priority either.

One thing I see over and over is Maclin to the Raiders…. I think people are just going ’he’s fast, Al Davis likes fast guys, that’s a fit’ when there’s better players and more pressing issues for the Raiders.

by Pistol on Mar 24, 2009 1:13 PM EDT up reply actions

They need a WR.

That’s why I picked him. They need other spots, too, no doubt. That’s just where I went. They have Javon Walker and…. Is Javon Walker even worth anything? They need some talent there.

Not meant to be directed at you

I didn’t mean any offense to you (not sure if you took any, but that wasn’t the intention). I just don’t think Maclin is near a top 10 pick. Last year WRs dropped a lot further than people anticipated since their contributions come slowly.

by Pistol on Mar 24, 2009 2:30 PM EDT up reply actions

I didn't take offense...

As Brian said…

You’re right about WRs dropping. There are several good ones and if the Raiders pass it could be a long time before they are picked since many of them, like last year, are in that low first round grade. If they are all still available teams may pass saying "we’ll get one of the top three guys we want the next time we pick. If the Raiders take one, expect more to go quicker.

OK.

I took the next best WR. They can’t take Crabtree if he’s been picked. :-)

Depends on Pioli

He’s got Cassel at QB and might want to add Crabtree to Bowe, Gonzales and Johnson. While the Patriots have a defensive reputation bear in mind that the team scored at will when Brady was running it. Pioli may well take the best available player, who happens to be a guy who can really help the offense hum. The team can then pick up an offensive lineman in the 2nd and make it clear to Waters that he’s not going anywhere.

Sure, the Chiefs could also go defense….but they might take an offensive lineman at #3 as well. They’ve got a lot of holes to fill and Crabtree fills a need—and may turn out to be a stud WR for the next decade.

by Ron From NM on Mar 26, 2009 9:53 PM EDT up reply actions

But you also have to remember how pathetic the Chiefs D was last year. They were the bozos that somehow allowed our Bills to put up 50+. That’s as bad as it gets. They need a TON of defensive help. I think with Gonzo and Bowe, Bradley, Engram and Franklin at WR, they can be plenty good offensively. They need to add the best defender they can in the draft, IMO.

I’ll take a can’t miss WR over a maybe on defense when there are holes at both. Yes, the defensive holes are bigger but Crabtree will make things exciting—which puts butts in seats.

by Ron From NM on Mar 27, 2009 2:44 AM EDT up reply actions

I guess we'll have to disagree

They have enough players on offense, IMO, and you don’t spend a top 3 pick on someone to fill seats.

Am I the only one who doesn’t see Crabtree as can’t miss?

This isn’t the weirdest mock I’ve seen- I think it was SB Nation’s Colts blog that had us taking a DE in round 1 and 2.

Brian, are you basing Matthews over Maybin on anything you’ve heard, or is that a gut thing? Just curious.

All in all, I like the draft, though I think to adequately reflect some teams, you guys should have drank heavily before picking.

When I hear “mock draft”, I enter the job trying to pick as I believe the team would pick. If I did it on who I think the Bills should pick, you’d see Maybin’s name at #11. :)

That wouldn’t be weird at all. In my perfect world, we’d be able to improve our pass rush as such. Unfortunately, too many other holes….

taking Crabtree at #3 is the only real surprise. I could see them going defense with that pick.

i could actually see the cheifs taking crabtree, just because of haley having fitz/boldin last year, he may want to replicate that w/ the cheifs seems how he had so much success w/ them.

but i think they should go defense but i woudl be suprised at all if crabtree was the pick, the only thing that may stop them are the similarities between bowe and crabtree so maybe they wait and get a burner later on, or maybe they reach big time for maclin (now if they did that i would be suprised)

by Shovel51 on Mar 24, 2009 2:22 PM EDT up reply actions

Crabtree may be the pick if Curry is taken at #1. There are doubts about Brown and Orakpo. No one is doubting Crabtree. For a team with a lot of holes it’s more important to fill one need for certain than to take a chance on a guy who might be up to the job at a position of higher need.

Crazy? No

I think Brown is better suited to handle 300 carries for an NFL team, if necessary. He also seems like more of a big play guy, but only slightly. I do like McCoy though. I would definitely take both before Moreno.

I took Knowshon after spending alot of times at various cardinals sites, and he was the only consensus RB they could pick

There were a few people looking at McCoy and Brown, but the vast majority went with Moreno, and I understand why, somewhat. They already have Hightower on their team whom the staff is still really high on, and Moreno would be the perfect starting complement to Hightower’s styel of running. Brown was also a possibility, but like I said, the vast majority of Cards people were leaning Moreno, and since I know squat of the ’Cards outside of Warner, Leinert, Fitz, Boldin and some of their D guys, I went with the fans choice.

If the Bills were a drug, I could only hope they were like speed so I could lose some weight as well.

I don’t see Stafford as the top pick.

I know that when teams make their draft board they rate positions of need a little higher, I don’t think that is the way to go. Just because you are picking first and you need a QB, that doesn’t mean that you take the best QB.

Maybin Stock Rising!

- Supposedly, all of these PRO DAYS that colleges have are changing a lot of coaches and scouts minds. Maybin could go in the top-10 to Green Bay. That is pretty accurate pick.
- I think Beanie Wells will go somewhere in the 1st round, possibly Arizona or the Jets since Thomas Jones is 31 now.
- Eben Britton will also go in the first round, and possibly Beatty from UCONN. I doubt Loadholt will go before those two in the 1st.

by BuffaloWhiner on Mar 25, 2009 2:34 PM EDT reply actions

My rationalizations...

The Chiefs only have 1 pick in the first two rounds. They need instant impact and a sure fire starter. Crabtree will be both of those things. Cassel will get to throw to Bowe, Crabtree, Gonzales and Johnson—not a bad set of blankees for a QB new to town.

I made the Denver pick before Bowlen popped off about losing their QB. We’ll see if it actually happens. Obviously, if it does the Broncos will be going QB. As it was, I picked guys (Maybin, Gilbert) who could play in a 4-3 (not their natural systems) in 2009 and transition to a 3-4 (better suited to each of them) in 2010….when Denver takes a mammoth NT in the 1st.

As with the Chiefs the Chargers had only 1 pick in the first two rounds. Their defensive front seven is wearing down due to age and injury. English appears to be a good, versatile fit in their 3-4. Plus, the Chargers are drawn to freakish athletes.

by Ron From NM on Mar 26, 2009 10:03 PM EDT reply actions

Personally, I don’t see why the Chargers would draft English, nor do I see where he’d fit into their rotation anytime soon. They will have a healthy Merriman, Shaun Phillips and Jyles Tucker to rotate at their 3-4 OLB position. I don’t see them spending a 1st rounder on another one. I’d look for them to add a guy like Maualuga before any OLB, a 3-4 DE or a NT. They could also draft the top RB too.

by Kurupt on Mar 26, 2009 11:39 PM EDT up reply actions

Merriman may or may not be healthy this season. He screwed himself up pretty badly and then kept trying to play on a destroyed knee. If he can’t go 100% then this could be his last year as a Charger. They’re not going to throw tens of millions at a guy who might never be the same defender he was.
