Free agent CB Jabari Greer is scheduled to visit the New Orleans Saints after he's done with his visit with the Cleveland Browns on Tuesday, Scout.com has confirmed.
The defensive back has already visited with the Detroit Lions and Tampa Bay Buccaneers previously.
Scout.com: DB Greer Making Visits. If Greer's supposed deadline for re-signing in Buffalo is today, it doesn't look promising that he's coming back. If that's the case, expect the team to ramp up efforts to sign CB Drayton Florence.

interesting twist
rotoworld:
The Chargers will reportedly put Antonio Cromartie on the trade block if they’re able to sign free agent Drayton Florence.
Adding Florence would set up San Diego nicely. 2008 first-round pick Antoine Cason is ready to start and Quentin Jammer is locked up cheaply long term. Cromartie is the Bolts’ most physically gifted corner, but he’s coming off a rough season and his rookie contract is two years from expiration.

what about
trading McGee to have Cromartie and Mckelvin? Now that would add some serious playmaking to our defense!

can anyone speculate as to why? I thought the kid was a playmaker
Oh. Uh, will you hold my wallet for me while I take the test, please? There's a thousand dollars in there... or maybe there isn't. Know what I mean?

I'm guessing
they expect his next contract to be enormous because of his playmaking. As it noted, Jammer is locked up cheap, Cason can play and is cheaper too. They may be trying to avoid losing him for nothing down the road

but for some reason we don’t like to think ahead! We can still re-sign Greer and trade McGee its not too late!

From the last paragraph in that link...
How much the Bills dole out to Peters this year, if they’re able to extend him at all, will essentially determine how much the club will be spending on other players.
Please tell me they already know how much they’re willing to spend on Peters. Is the FO not being as aggressive in free agency, leaving money off the table, because of Peters?
Well here's the thing...
say they have contracts out to Coles, Peters, and Greer. If they all sign, great. Now say they have those four contracts out and start going after someone else like Sean Jones. Now they have four contracts out but can only afford 3. If everybody signs, we aren’t good against the cap or the salary ofr whatever anymore. In some way they need to account for Peters’ money.

I'm not arguing that we do...
But if the Bills have offers on the table they can’t go after secondary targets until the primary ones sign or move on.

i'm troubled
that they won’t give coles 4 years. The years doesn’t matter it’s the guaranteed money that matters. I just don’t see why they don’t up the anty to secure him? $10 mill guaranteed and 4 years 25 million would do the trick…..We need to extend Peters and I’m all about that, but if we end up with Peters extended, Hangartner, and not much else, it will be a very disappointing FA period. Then we are rolling the dice on a rookie front 7 defensive player and a rookie TE to be the only players that have potential to impact this Bills team in 2009.

I haven’t heard anything about the offer to Coles myself. I posted that link because what he said about Greer’s deadline is consistent with what I heard.
I can’t verify anything else he says.

Why these deadlines in the first place?!?!?! Yeah, I understand you don’t want a guy dragging it out into a full blown Panda Watch full length and uncut v.2, but imposing these deadlines when it would appear there is not much else going on or much else to be going after seems a bit ridiculous.
~K
"I’m Kurupt with Buffalo Rumblings. I am worth hundreds!"
Agreed
I was all for the deadline for Coles, but if you truly want to keep a guy like Greer, then you let him make his choice on his own time. I mean it’s not like if there was HUGE money on the table, Surely a sizeable amount, but I doubt the Bills would spend so much money that they could no longer afford to sign Greer.
Give him time, let him make his own decisions.

They don't want to be held hostage by contract offers...
They want to see if they can get other guys with the money they have accounted for in offers to Greer or Peters or Coles. If those guys don’t bite we move on. Maybe they’ll be around later. You can’t just have all these signed checks out there and hope they don’t all get cashed on the same day.

Yes I know.
But when there’s not a whole lot out there, why impose these deadlines? Let’s say the deadlines pass for Coles and Greer, and the team pulls the offers. Then what? We go after a guy like Sean Jones? We go after…..????
~K
"I’m Kurupt with Buffalo Rumblings. I am worth hundreds!"
If they have nobody else targeted, it wouldn't make sense.
You’re right. But they must have some other targets don’t you think? Otherwise the deadline doesn’t make sense.

Why do they keep putting these deadlines out there? If we keep passing on guys who miss the deadline, won’t we end up with nothing? Unless they have plans to start going after guys like Sean Jones, Jermaine Phillips, or even Bert Berry, there isn’t much left, so why are they forcing these deadlines?
Sounds like we’re going to end up with Peters getting a new deal and not a whole lot more. We all know you don’t win the Super Bowl in FA, but when the other teams in your division widen the gap, you better be doing something. I’m worried we haven’t done anything to get better.
~K
"I’m Kurupt with Buffalo Rumblings. I am worth hundreds!"
don’t win the Super Bowl in FA,
agree and disagree there K
agree – if you approach FA like the ’Skin’s then you will probably fail more than succeed
disagree – I think FA should be about signing your core players and keeping them intact. I like them to add a quailty FA or two during the offseason. But if a team drafts and developes properly – you should use FA for your core players.

Trade: BUF & NYG
Why don’t we trade McGee and a draft pick (say 2nd rounder) for Justin Tuck or Osy, the Giants have too may DEs and DTs. They have to move someone. We could re-sign Greer and draft the best player available in the first two rounds with no true holes to fill (if you don’t count LG).
HAHAHA. Yeah right. Teams don’t trade stud pass rushers for slightly above average CB’s in the last year of their contracts!
You can never have enough quality DE’s and DT’s, I wish we had some more.
~K

I could see the Kiwi for Edwards deal.
I doubt the Osi for Boldin would work though. Too many extraneous factors involved there, IMO. Osi’s knee is the major one.
~K
"I’m Kurupt with Buffalo Rumblings. I am worth hundreds!"
exactly
the Giants have too many talented D-Lineman than they know what to do with and Jerry Reese wants to keep Kiwi at DE rather than linebacker. They are obviously hanging on to Tuck who is young and offers no risk. Kiwi is blossoming but there is no proof he reaches his potential and Osi has a serious injury hes coming off.
If I’m the Giants I think Kiwi for Braylon is a pretty ok deal. They have Canty, Osi, Kiwi, Tuck, Cofield, Bernard, Alford and Robbins all ready to rotate in 4 spots. I’d say Kiwi for Braylon is a little more plausible than Bat Boy and Bearded Lady

I'm sure
there are trades involved in Buffalo’s Plan B, C, D, & E. If they resign Greer, McGee is an expendable piece. But not for Osi or Tuck. They won’t give up one of their stars.
The Bills need to get creative if Coles & Greer don’t work out. Cuz that means they still have plenty of $$$ to spend
MARVelous
McGee and a second for Kiwi??
It s really too bad we have nothing the Giants want. Supposedly they are willing to part with Kiwi for an offensive weapon. We don’t have anything to offer. I dont think they need secondary help…darn….
"Gooood…..let the apathy take root…" - Ron from NM

Why is McGee expendable!?!?!
I still don’t follow the logic on this.
If we re-sign Greer and trade McGee, we’ll be left with:
Leo
Greer
Youboty
Corner
After those first 2, there are major question marks….Keep the depth man because McGee isn’t bringing much back in a trade in the final year of his deal…
And frankly, what would the Giants need McGee for a year for? They have Webster and Ross as starters, and Terrell Thomas and Kevin Dockery as the backups.

The best counter-point to make to the “he could go back to the Jets” argument is why on earth would anyone choose to play for Kellen Clemens over Trent Edwards?

True, but if there is any truth to the numbers in that Fox Sports article, why would he turn down $6 million guaranteed to accept $6 million guaranteed from a different team? When players leave teams for free agency, they usually do so for more money (depending on age of course).
Obviously, Coles thought he was going to be a hotter name than he was/is.
Buffalo Rumblings - all you care to know about the Buffalo Bills and more

Possibly, or (regardless of anti-tampering policies) his agent already knew he could get better from somewhere else (i.e. the team(s) that missed out on Housh).
I think of the teams that he visited (include NYJ) and with everything being equal (money wise) that we would be his best option.
cincinatti is behind us in their rebuilding in my opinion – although they do have CP
NYJ’s are attractive because of Rex and what he wants to do – but he’s going to have the rock being thrown to him by Kellen Clemens.
Buf has a decent QB and are at least looked at as an up and coming team – even though I feel that 2010 is the earliest we sniff the playoffs.

Who looks at the Bills as an up and coming team?
Honestly, I have to ask. I have no idea. Definitely last year but not after the debacle of last year. Especially with the coaching staff kept intact and no major changes having been made. Can you be and up and coming team if people expect you to finish worse than you did when you epically choked?
i don’t have any specific links – but i’ve heard that term used in reference to us this year. if i come across i’ll definately remember you 289 and post it.

ultimately
he thought at worst he would recoup that $6 mill the Jets owed to him so it was worth the risk to test the market. And now in Buffalo he’d probably get 7-10 mill guaranteed anyway so he ain’t going to be losing money and he’ll get $6 mill a year for 3 years and still only be 34.
