FA Defensive Ends

Probably Brian (or more likely, Kurupt) Iis already working on this, but heck, I thought I'd give this a shot.

Star-divide

I heard this morning that both Jason Taylor and Vonnie Holliday got released by their respective clubs.

Is it just me, or do any of you out there think that either or both of these guys could benefit the defensive line here in Buffalo?  I can't imagine that one of them would cost more than <cough>Kelsay<cough> is costing us now.

I would love to see One Bills Drive go after a free agent DE.  Even if these guys are at 80% of their prime, it might be worthwhile to explore.

Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

Eternal Optimist?

I still think the Bills should open some discussions with Taylor’s agent…

I don't disagree with that

but I highly doubt he’ll come cheaper than or comparable to what Kelsay costs us now.

You're probably right

But I would love to see what Schobel and Taylor could do on the field together in an obvious passing situation!

Plus Taylor wanted to work out on his own...

not with the team. I think the Bills wouldn’t like that just like the REdskins didn’t.

Maybe

But didn’t McGahee used to work out by himself down in Florida?

I’m not suggesting the team bend over backwards for Taylor, but they have shown some flexibility in the past.

It certainly would be negotiable in my book if he dramatically improved the pass rush.

We didn't like McGahee doing that either...

We want our guys here during OTAs working with their coaches and teammates.

Taylor would benefit our D, Holliday probably not so much.

If we were to bring in a vet DE, he’d have to be one that actually has some pass rush skills. Taylor and Bert Berry are the only ones I can think of right now. I doubt either happens though….

Holliday had one good game. It was a five sack, end of the year performance against the Bills when he was a member of the Packers. That got him a huge contract. He is by and large a below average DE.

The time has come for someone to put his foot down. And that foot is me.

and...

too big to play DE in your system. He’s a 3-4 DE through and through.

Taylor makes sense in a purely objective world, but then you have to ask yourself, why would Taylor choose to come to Buffalo? Do you think our front office would actually bring Taylor in? or pay him the money? I agree he would be a great addition, but I don’t think it’s very likely. He would be a great mentor for a guy like Maybin if he was brought in!

You don’t think the desire to face the Dolphins twice a year would factor into his thinking? Assuming he still wants to be a football player after the Washington debacle.

by WhyBillsWhy on Mar 5, 2009 5:23 PM EST up reply actions

Holliday needs to take a prolonged holliday and retire. Taylor just wants to ballet he’s lost alot of weight and strength seems ineffective to if he was honest with himself he would say he doesn’t care anymore.

Agreed

but i still wouldn’t mind having him on our d-line.

Give him a 2 year 9M and only garantee the first year, that way if he does stink, we can just let him go
