Now that we made a few signings and are close to a few more (crosses fingers) where are the biggest holes on this teams roster? Just list the position and rate the need on a 1 - 3 scale. 1 being "It would be nice". 3 being "massive liability".
Linebacker - 3 : Keith Ellison needs to stay off the field. He isn't a trainwreck of a player but I don't think I'm saying anything controversial when I say he is a career backup. Its also always nice to have 4 decent LBs in a 4-3 scheme due to the fact that no LB corp stays healthy all year.
Tight End - 3 : We just lost our number one tight end in Robert Royal. Do I need to repeat that sentence? We need an athlete at this position.
Defensive End - 3 : I never jumped on the Aaron Schobel bandwagon even in 2006. Even in his best year he was a white "high motor guy" who had the most meaningless sacks I have ever seen.
Free Safety - 2 : I actually liked how the Scott/Whitner tandem played at the end of last season but I dont trust my scouting skills in the least bit.
Wide Reciever - 2 : I think when we are all healthy we have a pretty average recieving corp. Thats the problem. I gave this a 2 because I still hope/expect either Hardy or S. Johnson to be more than adequate in the 2011 season.
Defensive Tackle - 1 : Marcus Stroud played average last year but he is getting up there in age. I love Kyle Williams but only because he was a 5th round draft pick who turned into a competent starter.
Is that really it? I say it in that way because it seems like come September 2009 most of those "holes" could be filled. Am I way out of line here?
